Conservative peers are seeking to delay the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty in the wake of the Irish rejection via referendum. Given the reactions of some commentators to Ireland's rejection of the Lisbon treaty, one could easily conclude that the 862,415 Irish votes who voted No somehow represent all 493 million Europeans. Some are suggesting that Ireland's rejection shows that the European people are against the Lisbon treaty and therefore the treaty should be dropped. Parliamentary sovreignty in the other 26 member sta

The principal towns of Ireland are all seaports depending upon trade. From Londonderry on the north to Cork in the south they face away from the main Atlantic. This is because the major part of Irish trade has always been with England and Scotland, and sometimes with France. Not only is the west coast very stormy, but also it is far from the parts of Ireland where the climate permits the largest population. Moreover, Ireland has had little in the way of goods that could be sold across the Atlantic. Ireland's new political independence, to be sure, is reflected in a perceptible increase of trade with foreign countries, but the economic relationship with England is too close to be much changed. For this reason the towns along the western coast, despite their splendid harbor facilities, remai

Now that Cross Country is over, I will post several interviews with several athletes and coaches who had breakthrough '07 seasons. I will start with the best male runner in Northern California not named German Fernandez, Dublin's James Attarian. He made a name for himself last Track and Field season by finishing 2nd in the 1600m. behind Brian Cole of St. Helena at the NCS Meet of Champions with a speedy 4:17.87. Despite several other sub. 4:20 1600m. clockings on the track, Attarian came into the season under the radar as a runner to watch on the state scene. Early during this past xc season, he finished 2nd behind fellow DFAL runner, Nate Beach of Acalanes, at the DLS/Carondelet. From there, we'll let him tell us about the rest of his season which will go down as one of the best by any Northern California Cross Country runners.1) What was the first race that gave you the confidence that this could be a special season?Stanford Invite because I had the second fastest time of the meet
We’re toying with the idea of a trip to Dublin for St Patrick’s Day next year and therefore on the lookout for cheap accommodation of which the obvious choice is arguably hostels in Dublin.
The name hostel probably puts most people off right away but it’s something of a misnomer for the sites that fall under the banner of “hostel listings sites” in that they have become such good sources of reservations for the accommodation listed on them that you get everything from true hostels through to five star hotels these days. For example, there’s Glen Guesthouse and Jackson Court Hotel both available from EUR 25 per person.
There’s a couple of things to watch if this is your venture into the hostel booking sites which can easily catch you out if you’re not careful.
First, private room means essentially a normal hotel room whereas shared room usually means dorm style accommodation.
Second, the prices are per person whereas the hotels listing on

A thief in Ireland has taken shoplifting beer to new heights.A man simply drove a truck through the gates of the Guinness brewery in Dublin on Wednesday and hitched up a trailer with 450 kegs, then drove away before security staff realized what happened. The theft was captured by security cameras. Police believe the thief counted on going undetected in the bustling loading dock area of the St. James's Gate Brewery complex, which is even busier this time of year as the brewery works to fill holiday orders.Police say the trailer had 180 kegs of Guinness, 180 kegs of Budweiser and 90 kegs of Carlsberg on board, worth more than $94,000. The vehicle, the driver and the beer are still missing.
