So recently I have been teaching my son to play drums and I must say that he is getting pretty good. I play drums and bass and was hoping that he would learn to play something that I don't already play but the problem with that is that I don't know anyone to teach him. So we started drum lessons about two weeks ago and he can already play pretty well. He can keep rhythm and he can already play a couple of different beats. Drum heads lifetime depends mostly, but not entirely on the drummer himself, - the level of attack the drummer is giving while stroking drum heads. - "Ken, my drums were sounding fantastic just a few weeks ago and now they just sound bad. Any idea what has happened to that great sound I had?"Well, first I will assume that you do tune your drums as needed and that all of the tension rods didn’t suddenly strip out. So, I’d suspect some drum heads now need replacement. Drum heads, like guitar strings, don’t have to break in order to need replacing. Like guitar strings, they need to be replaced when they won’t hold tunings and the resonance in gone. Your ears should tell you "hey this doesn’t sound good anymore". That is were the drum tape comes in.Drum tape can be applied to the problematically sounding part of the drum head to sustain that vibration. Other uses of drum tape include fixation of the drum stands to the floor, in order to eliminate any movement, and marking positions of the instruments and players. The difference is that when removed Gaffers tape does not leave the sticky residue on the place of application as duct tape does. Many ancient bronze drums being illegally excavated In the past four months, 50 bronze drums have been unearthed and transported illegally out Krong Nang district in Dak Lak province, said doctor Tran Quy Thinh from the Vietnam Archeological Institute. Of these, the only one that is yet to be sold is at present being kept by Nguyen Thi Dieu from Xuan Vinh commune. Ms. Dieu has asked Dak Lak Museum for VND100million (US$6,000) for the ancient drum. The drum, which was discovered in Ms. Dieu’s garden, is a Dong Son Drum Type 1, which dates back 2,200 years. The surface’s diameter is 65 cm, and the diameter of the bottom is 67 cm.
