What is a Drumming Circle?
It’s a musical gathering. However, it is much more than just the instruments and people beating on drums; it is also the shared experience of the drummers. The drums and drumming take the group to its final destination, a place where everyone has a voice and is empowered to use it, [...]
Hey there sportsfans. What you are about to see is my holy grail of drumming. I have been in pursuit of the funk groove all my life. The day that I attain the level of playing this dude has, I can die happy.Below is a funky latin jam with the same dude. He's fucking awesome...
子供の太鼓I was going past Tokyo’s Yoyogi-Hachiman station (Odakyu line) on Sunday when not only distant drums, but the bleating of sheep, too, caught my ear! I parked my bike and went down to investigate. The first thing I saw was a little girl on a pony (photo below), then kids petting sheep and goats in a cage a little further down, then a circle of kids next down all holding baby chicken

Well we’ve been at it again - another concert and it was fun, even though we got rained out.
It was done in conjunction with a local music school at Queenstown - Fingerwerkz… so I decided that I would do a time-lapse video. The first part is the Fingerwerkz kids - really cute, and the second [...]

For those that are not aware, I do African hand drumming as a hobby. I play (or, rather, have been learning to play) the djembe…
As well as the dununs (also called djun djuns).
I haven’t been learning the dununs for as long as the djembe (or as consistently)… in a way I’m just picking them up (not literally) - I play for the Monday night class in my drum school (Lila Drums) and piece together the different parts as I go! Actually, once I get over the arm ache from my lack of technique, as well as the difficulties I have in coordinating my left hand separately to my right hand (I am sooo right handed), I’m having some fun in improvising, which is something I just can’t seem to do with the djembe. It’s totally bizarre!
A few weeks ago we were having a practice session - without the teacher (oooooh) - and I even played a rhythm across two of the dununs (the danumba and the kenkeni), something which I have often admired when watching the Lila D
I often see search engine optimization opportunities in other towns, but never mine. So what’s a girl to do? Relocate to follow my dreams? Or give up? Well, relocating is not going to happen, nor is me giving up… Actual solution: Suck it up and somehow find some way to gain a monopoly on the search engine optimization game in London Ontario.
The first thing I notice about this sometimes low-tech and always very conservative city that I live in: SEO is not included in the regional vernacular. It was bad enough telling people I studied anthropology (what’s that?) and now when I try to explain this SEO thing, people are still puzzled (what’s that?). First roadblock: Nobody know was search engine optimization can do, or what online marketing has to offer.
I am not a pillar of the business community and I don’t have that many networking opportunities available to me, I don’t have a great online marketing mentor like Lee Odden (I wish!) and so there is no

Now I don’t think I’ve ever met anybody who claimed to know it all in life. I certainly do not - and I think I would laugh at somebody if they thought they did. This summer I’m playing drums each Sunday night for a ministry called The Gathering Place. It’s pretty neat, crowded, hot, sweaty, and lots of good nod-your-head type worship. Each week we play different songs by different worship groups so I’ve had to listen and learn a lot about different drumming styles, rhythms, accents, and so on. This week we are playing with Third Day’s very own Mac Powell with a new set of worship songs from last week, namely Third Day songs. The other day I came across a blog of a drummer for a very big church in Atlanta. He designed the blog to talk about drumming and worship - just what i was looking for. I feel that everyone can learn from others - yes God can teach you - but sometimes, if not most of the time, God can teach you from other people speaking throu
Over the last 13 years of my life, hand percussion has been a large part of my life. Drumming is more than just making music. There are many elements of art in drumming such as rhythm, symmetry, energy and movement. All have their place in drumming as well as with art. So how can one nurture the creative process of a child effectively? I think drumming is a great way to do this.
I was recently given the opportunity to review Yamaha’s new line of Real Rhythm line of hand drums. Only after I accepted did I realize that this was a line of drums geared for a younger crowd (ages 3+) then my particular demographic. I enlisted the help of my little cousin, Marshall, for the task.
Of course, I got my hands on the drum and had some fun first. The first thing I noticed was the sound. Many kid-oriented drums are toys. Yamaha’s Konga doesn’t have that plastic toy sound that is familiar to parents and ill-tuned low quality drum-shaped toys. It sounds… well, like
It has been a long time since I posted a bucket drumming video. It has been a long time since there was one worth posting. This one was worth wait though. They have great timing together. It amazes me that they can drum with such good timing together and came make music with something so simple as some old buckets.Tags: bucket drumming, drumming, youtube, video, videorambler
I always enjoy drumming with friends and family. Last year I decided to incorporate the “drumming” experience into the holidays and invited everyone over to the house for what they thought would be a traditional Christmas celebration. Much to their surprise, I busted out the drums and other percussion gear and handed them out for all to explore.Â
There, before the lights of the holiday tree and roaring fireplace we gathered and created music together.Everyone had such a great time, I’ve been asked to do it again. This is such a great way to share in an activity together and really have lots of fun. If you don’t have percussion instruments handy, no worries. Find things around the house that can be converted into a percussive instrument. Here are a few hints:Get a package of chopsticks (they are really inexpensive), have your guests break apart the chopsticks (which will be used as strikers for some of your instruments). Bust out some pots and pa

The First Presbyterian Liturgical Drummers gathered worshipers on Evolution Sunday. Click the pic to see and hear them on YouTube. (Turn it up!) Last Fall, our drummers made their own traditional African drums. We will provide another opportunity for folks to make a drum and learn to play it this year. We can expect more drumming in worship at First Pres! On Sunday, our liturgical drummers gathered us to worship with a traditional African piece entitled, Moribayassa: "If a woman has a really big problem, such as illness in the family or childlessness, when she has exhausted all other resources, as her last hope she takes a vow: 'When this huge difficulty is over, I will dance Moribayassa.' Between this decision and the dance, years may pass. For this dance, the woman dresses and shows herself in a way that she normally would never dare to do; she wears old, torn clothes, shows her naked legs, and behaves like a crazy woman who is allowed to break all taboos. In thi
