Dressing up for the General Election: a new logo for the Alliance

However, I wanted the party to approve the news first before sharing it with you all. Creamy Garlic Dressing
I am sooo excited to say that Spring has finally hit the upper Midwest! This past week we had to put up with what I *hope* is a last blast of 30 degree weather and even snow just north of us, but today I was just out in our garden surveying the layout and deciding when and how to plant this year. (Hush all you readers from Texas that have had 80 degree weather for a month already! LOL).When the warmer weather hits we instantly start to crave fruits and salads. Something instinctive sends me to the store for lettuce and berries. Ha ha. So today I am digging through some of my warmer weather recipes and making menu's for the next couple weeks. If you have a garlic lover (as I do!) in the family, check out this recipe for a creamy garlic salad dressing. Tandoori Paneer Tikka with Mango Dressing
I've said it before and I'll say it again; if there's one thing you'd want to make and serve to your guests without thinking twice, its Paneer! No matter how you serve it, there's hardly a chance you'd go wrong. One such crowd favorite is the Tandoori Paneer Tikka, succulent cubes of paneer marinated and grilled or baked in a "tandoori oven", then served with grilled vegetables. But here, I have tried to take it one level up by making a spicy yoghurt marinade, then serving the Paneer Tikka with a home-made sweet and tangy mango dressing! Sounds inviting, right? Just wait till you've actually tasted it, maybe you wouldn't like leaving any for your guests! When Meeta announced the theme of Bollywood Cooking for her Monthly Mingle, she expected us to to dish out something that is fit for the s

Especially one that lets me smear it with avocado goodness. What can I say, I'm a slut for them. (Avocados AND burgers, really.)I don't normally like my food salty, but it did indeed go really well with the creamy dressing - just like they said it would! We skipped the tomatoes, but I think their cool juiciness would have been a nice touch. Served with roasted red potatoes, this was a delightful dinner. My only suggestion would be to up this whole thing by half and I'll tell you why - these burgers shrink. Not one of the four burgers was very big in the end, and one was even very sadly small (but hideously cute!). So make more - or just plan on them being l

The French have come to town. But the zoom lenses seemed to be pointing towards newly demure Carla Bruni instead of Nicholas Sarkozy, in the very week when Carla's picture was up for auction at Christie's. Of course, Mr Sarkozy has been trying to rebuild credibility back in his own country, where, after election, he seemed to go into something of downward slide, surrounded by the glint of overbling. Visiting his near neighbours may be an interesting move, particularly as the Royals seemed to be able to dial up eleven on their own bling-ometer even to the extent of getting the horsemen in Windsor to wear special gold plated ceremonial suits - I wonder if that's a kind of Regal joke. Dressing up as Angels
As I told you in my blog on the anti-radar exhibition (below) there was a short comic sketch for which a local man dressed up as an angel. In my blog on the St Nicolas' Day celebrations I told how all over the Czech Republic people dress up as angels and devils. This desire by Czech men to dress up as angels is an interesting national trait. British men like to dress up as women, as the Czechs have discovered from the numerous British stag nights that hit Prague. I have even queued behind a British man in a miniskirt on a cold January day at Prague airport. In both the Czech and British case there is clearly something about putting on frilly frocks that appeals, but the point is not to be feminine (for the British male) or asexual (for the Czech) but to remain masculine within the assumed

      Dressing for Success The Basics
The clothes make the man or so the saying goes. Regardless of your gender, there is some truth to the cliché. If you want to be a success, you need to dress for it. Here are some basics to keep in mind. Dressing for success really begins with color. Choose two, basic, colors that you can start to build your clothing selection upon. Most people choose black, brown, grey, navy or beige, but you can decide upon whatever color you like the best (just keep it simple). After you have chosen two simple colors, you can then head out (don't forget that wallet!) to those glistening retail stores. Once you arrive inside of your favorite clothing store, stop for a moment and look around you. You will notice that there are two types of clothes hanging on racks and folded upon shelves - classic and tre

He got very wide-eyed and said "You can DO that?!" He likes raw beets too, but had only ever had them peeled and chopped in salads and things. He took a bite, and ended up eating more than I did. I've turned him to the raw side of the beet! ;) This salad, however, does not showcase raw beets. At first, I was thinking of making pan-fried beet fries. Revitilizing our Lawn by Aerating and Top Dressing with Compost.
Everyone is talking about environmentally friendly methods of fighting weeds. It would seem as in many other fields, prevention is the best medicine. Established stands of turf that are thin or reedy are ripe for infestation by windblown weed seed and spore. Improved turf density and soil quality are the lawn’s best defense against encroachers. So as I hear it step one is to aerate. Well, we can do that. We have a number of options for aeration from the manual aerator called the Coring Type Hand Aerator for very small areas to the motorized Lesco Split Drive Drum Type Aerator. The next step is to over seed or top dress; mixing light soil, seed and fertilizer and spreading it over the lawn. President Bush, accompanied by acting FAA Administrator Robert Sturgell, outlined a plan to reduce air traffic congestion on Thursday. The most significant change is that the Pentagon will open unused military airspace from Florida to Maine to create “a Thanksgiving express lane” for commercial airliners. It will be open next week for five days — Wednesday through Sunday — for the busiest days of Thanksgiving travel. Bush said the problems with delayed flights are “clear to anybody who’s been traveling. Airports are very crowded. Travelers are being stranded and flights are delayed, sometimes with a full load of passengers sitting on the runway for hours. I can confidentally s

Hijab and Dressing of woman in Islam
HIJAB The term hijab, includes not only the covering of body, but methods of behavior before members of the same or opposite sex, promoting privacy for females and prohibiting intermingling sexes, to ensure modesty, decency, chastity and above all, respect and worship of Allah. Minor differences exist among the scholars regarding the actual number of the requirements because of varying methods used in codifying them. The ones mentioned here represent the ones agreed upon by the overwhelming majority of scholars and are all solidly backed by firm evidence taken from the Qur’an, the Sunnah and the practice of the Sahabah (the Companions). THE EXTENT OF COVERING The dress worn in public must cover the entire body except what has been specifically excluded, based upon the following proofs: Allah says: ” And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their private parts from sin and not show of their adornment except only that which is apparent, and draw their h

Stop Dressing your Six Year Old like a Skank!
New Book "Stop Dressing Your Six Year Old Like a Skank." Oct. 27, 2007 Among pint-sized cheerleaders, itty-bitty beauty queens, and in the malls of America, the sassy-sexy look isn't just for teens anymore. Some say younger girls are going shorter and barer -- taking their cues from characters like the Cheetah Girls, the Pussycat Dolls and the Bratz dolls -- and some observers are saying they've had enough.Celia Rivenbark, a mom who hit her breaking point with the shrinking fashions, wrote a book called, "Stop Dressing Your Six Year Old Like a Skank.""The moms are buying it, the dads are buying and maybe on some level the parents think, 'Oh that's cute, that's harmless, that's innocent' -- but I don't think it is," Rivenbank said. Secrets of maternity dressing
You're thrilled about having a baby. But you're less than excited about the prospect of giving up your hip clothes in favor of tent dresses and sweats. Fear not — with a few simple wardrobe tweaks, you can be a hip mama. "The key is to stick with the same kinds of things you wear when you're not pregnant," advises fashion designer Liz Lange. If you wear a lot of black and that makes you feel confident and comfortable, then by all means, don't start wearing pink just because you're pregnant. If you prefer solid colors to prints, choose a favorite neutral — say, gray, black, or khaki — and build your wardrobe around that. And if bows aren't your thing, then be glad that the days are gone when virtually every maternity top and dress was adorned with one! Borrow before you

How To Serve: Part I - A Guide To Dressing Yourself
This is Part I in a four-part series designed to inform servers on how they’re fucking up. You can read Part II here, Part III here or Part IV here. Last March, I wrote a four-part series informing the public how to be better customers and filling them in on societal laws that govern the restaurant industry that they’re either blissfully ignorant of or just too fucking stupid to follow. I took some time off from being a waiter to work on a lot of things. It’s my senior year of college and I’d raise my GPA, build a portfolio for when I go out into the “real world” and just plain have fun with my friends before I’m…well…never going to see them again. I’ve got a lot more free time now, so I tend to eat out a little more frequently than before. And I’ve noticed one thing: A lot of servers have no fucking clue how to serve a table. So, just as I felt convicted to explain to the meathead-customers how to act in fucking publi

      Salad with Sweet Lemon Dressing

It's not very good to take supper so usually I'll take salad if I really can bear with the hunger. In this salad bowl you see, I had lettuce, onions, tomatoes and some leftover Chuka Kurage (Marinated Jellyfish). For this dressing, I mixed the following together and it's ready to be use ...1 tablespoon Olive Oil or Sesame Seed Oil1 tablespoon Maple Syrup1/2 tablespoon Light Soy Sauce1/2 tablespoon Lemon Juicea toss of Sesame SeedsNote:You can use honey or sugar instead of Maple Syrup. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. You absolutely have to try this dressing, I guarantee you are likely to fall in love with it. In fact, often times when I am asked to bring a salad to a party, they always request I bring this dressing along. Poppy Seed Salad Dressing small sliver of onion (a little less than 1/16th of a medium onion) 1 cup sugar 2 teaspoons dry mustard 2 teaspoons salt 2/3 cup white vinegar 2/3 cup vegetable oil 2 tablespoons poppy seeds In a blender, puree the sliver of onion. Giuliani: Power Hungry Cross-Dressing Incestuous Adulterer?
Rudy Giuliani continues to use his only perceived strength in every conceivable fund-raising manner. Tuesday Democratic Senator Christopher Dodd called Giuliani out for planning a fund-raiser that asks each guest to donate at least $9.11. Giuliani's campaign claims they did not organize the event and have no further comment, but the so-called "event-organizer," a self-proclaimed long-time friend of Giuliani's named Abraham Sofaer, referred all questions to Giuliani's camp. It's not shocking that Giuliani continues to fall back on 9/11 in every speech he gives, every campaign stop he makes, and every fundraiser he pockets. What is shocking is how many Americans are eager to jump right in with the former mayor.Beating your chest and claiming that people should vote for you because you were mayor when terrorists killed 3,000 people does not endear you to the public. How is this any different than if the mayor of Nagasaki ran for re-election on a platform of how well he reacted to thous

Dear Fashion Kitty: Dressing up my dress
I got this J.Crew dress as a gift and as I have kind of a prom ("kind of", b/c I'm living in Poland) coming in January, I thought I could wear it then. BUT here comes the dilemma- is it possible to make this lovely but modest dress look stylish, chic and sexy? I'd really appreciate it if you could help me out and suggest some shoes, jewelry, etc... Great basic, there is a lot you can do with dress. You can of course go simple and classic with a pearl necklace and t-strap shoes but that is so *yawn.* boring. The key is not to make this look like you totally rebelled against the dress but you can certainly give this dress a high fashion makeover very simply. I would go glam rock with it by adding a funky wide belt, studded and stoned jewelry, and purple smokey eyes (to tie in the purple of the dress). Accessories from Net-a-Porter and cosmetics from Sephora. These are of course inspiration pieces, you find items like this for less all over.
