No, Virginia is the companion to the Dresden Dolls' 2006 album Yes, Virginia. It has some B-sides from the sessions for that record, including "The Gardner," a song called "Lonesome Organist Rapes Page Turner" that we hope isn't about the actual Lonesome Organist, "The Kill," and "Boston." It also has a good-natured cover

Brighter Dark Cabaret.
First off, you need to bear in mind that this is a compilation album, made up of songs that have previously been written, but have not been included on any other release by the Dresden Dolls. So surely, they aren’t as good as the songs that were actually picked for album release. You [...]

Prospect Place which is also known as Trinway Mansion was owned and built by abolitionist George Willison Adams in 1856. The property was known to be on the underground railroad. It’s located just north of Dresden Ohio.
The mansion had every “modern” convenience and a few that were not in homes in 1856. [...]

I've never actually listened to the Dresden Dolls, but I do like how they get all dressed up as part of their act. I remember a year or two ago, they played at the Paradise Rock Club near BU and there was a huge crowd of fans dressed up as well. It's always cool when you really love a band and can really get into their performances.I wiki'ed them since I don't know much about them and learned two things. First, they're from Boston - which gives them +12 to their coolness factor. And then there's this little tidbit:They describe their style as "Brechtian punk cabaret", a phrase invented by Palmer because she was "terrified" that the press would invent a name that "would involve the word gothic," and are part of an underground dark cabaret movement that started gaining momentum in the early 1990s.So tickets go on sale tomorrow, 11/10 at noon EST at Ticketmaster. They're concert is going to be at the Orpheum Theatre on Dec 29, 2007 (7:30 PM).As usual, log on at 11:55am tom

The Dresden Dolls could never be accused of being shy and retiring, but on their second full-length, Yes, Virginia..., they sound more confident than ever, igniting their cabaret-rock with more crazed inventiveness and you-are-there immediacy. While there's nothing as instantly captivating as their first album's winsome "Coin-Operated Boy" or the defiant "Girl Anachronism," Yes, Virginia... is a more powerful and consistent set of songs overall, moving from musically and emotionally complex ballads like "Delilah" and the album closer, "Sing," to shouty, forceful numbers such as "Necessary Evil" and "Sex Changes." Sean Slade and Paul Kolderie's production adds to the bigger, more rock-inspired sound of the album, which invigorates Amanda Palmer's character sketches. While the highly theatrical, stylized sound of the Dresden Dolls might seem to be the substance of their music -- and, admittedly, it does draw the listener in right away -- it's the strong songwr
After the exciting IAESTE meeting in Prague I couldn’t say no to the next IAESTE meeting, this time in Dresden, city of kings and capital of the old kingdom of Saxony. I didn’t expect Dresden to be such a great city, in fact right now it has become my favorite city in Germany, it´s even more impressive and beautiful than Berlin.
On Saturday we had an interesting guided tour through the city, here are some of the best pictures:

Unfortunately the city was totally destroyed after suffering one of the worst war massacres in history, the bombing of Dresden, where the casualties suffered were similar to those in the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. A lot of historical building were rebuilt after the war but a lot of them were demolished by the DDR so that new concrete buildings “for the people” could be built.

Not that I had any hopes left for a Second Season of THE DRESDEN FILES, but it’s still sad to finally hear the official announcement that such a great show has been cancelled.
When The Dresden Files first aired I wasn’t sure I would like it, but after the first episode I was hooked. I am a fan of anything that has to do with magic and supernatural (isn’t it funny that I don’t actually watch Supernatural?!). Paul Blackthorne as Harry Dresden was wonderful and if I ever needed a wizard, I would definitely put my faith in Harry Dresden.
At least we can take comfort in the fact that we can watch season one all over again on
And if that’s not enough to satisfy you, you can buy the DVD of the first season coming out on August 7th. You can click on the link below to purchase Season One of The Dresden Files on Amazon.
The Dresden Files - The Complete First Season
In other news, Paul Blackthorne has already found another job in ABC’s new show Big Shots
The Dresden Files leaves, not with a magic induced bang, but with a cowardly SciFi Wire whimper.
What can the people at the SciFi Channel be thinking? Why would they scrap one of the few good shows they have? The Dresden Files was a great show. Painkiller Jane is crap, why is that still around? That’s [...]
Boston's Dresden Dolls have been dishing up their own brand of musical theatre - call it "Brechtian Punk Cabaret," for years now. Thanks to the True Colors tour, many thousands of fans from outside the Bay State are getting a look at the painted duo these days. Today's song of the day is a most-impressive cover of Radiohead's Karma Police. Robbie Rivera feat. Justine Suissa - Float Away (Gabriel and Dresden Re-edit)
Label: Hit! Records
Another great one for this week. Justine Suissa's vocals are absolutely gorgeous, and ever since "Burned with Desire", I've looked forward to any new vocals from Justine. Her voice just melts me.
