Earlier today, Nick and Barry announced the release of the Ultimate Extra Windows DreamScene. Windows DreamScene lets Windows Vista Ultimate users choose full-motion video as their desktop wallpaper.
After installing the final release of Windows DreamScene, I was prompted to download the Windows DreamScene Content Pack Favorites. With Windows DreamScene, you get a standard set of 4 DreamScenes to use on your desktop. The Windows DreamScene Content Pack adds 4 more new DreamScenes for your desktop. Here is a video I created of my desktop PC running several of the new DreamScenes:

With today's update on the status of Ultimate Extras from the Ultimate Team I thought it would be nice to highlight this cool experience I had the other day with Windows DreamScene. I am currently running a dual-monitor setup on my main desktop PC running Windows Vista Ultimate. I decided to try out Windows DreamScene and see how well it worked with my two 24-inch Dell UltraSharp 2407FP monitors. I tried a few DreamScenes out including the Microsoft Silverlight DreamScene that you can download here.
Video: DreamScene on Dual Monitors
The DreamScenes worked really nicely running on both monitors.
Windows DreamScene is currently a Technology Preview (like a beta) downloadable through Windows Update for Ultimate users. The Ultimate Team is looking to ship the final version of Windows DreamScene later this summer.
It seems that there's a patched version of Dreamscene which can be installed on any version of Vista - so you do not have to drop too much cache for Ultimate version if you simply want to use DreamScene.

According to Brandon LeBlanc who is now posting at the new Windows Vista Experience blog over at Microsoft’s official Windows Vista blog.
The Microsoft Sliverlight team have put together a Microsoft Silverlight DreamScene called ”Dusk” which they are releasing at MIX07 this week, in both standard 4:3 and widescreen 16:9 aspect ratios.
And though I have yet to see the offcial download links go up on the Microsoft Silverlight Homepage, Brandon has pointed out in his post, that you can download “Dusk” in both the Standard or Widescreen formats ahead of everyone else!

As well as being able to download them above, you can also check out a preview of it in his post at the new Windows Vista Experience Blog.
The Vista laptop got itself a bit confused today. At one point it rebooted itself and then decided that there was something wrong with the hard drive as it invoked Checkdisk. That found several problems with some windows DLL files so decided to delete them and hopefully reinstalled them later. When it had finished that it started OK except that the the Windows Dreamscene Content I used for wallpaper had been replaced with a plain black wallpaper. Vista did pop up a window saying there was a problem with it.
Later on I tried to amend the wallpaper back to the Dreamscene bees and flowers moving image. As soon as I had selected it Vista rebooted itself again. It tried running Checkdisk again which I aborted. It carried on loading with plain wallpaper OK. I amended the wallpaper back to the Dreamscene bees and flowers and this time it installed OK.
Vista then helpfully popped up a window saying that it had recovered from an error and would I like to let it search on-line for a solution o
Ohh goodness, I have to get Windows Vista soon, if not for the better operating system, at least for the really cool animated desktop wallpapers that are now out there for Vista Ultimate! There is a piece of software called "DreamScapes" that extends Windows DreamScene, which I posted about earlier and you can read here, and gives it the ability to run a .Dream animated wallpapers. So you're wondering why would you care about these wallpapers? Well, simple because they are not only animated, but are also dynamic! In my last post, I was talking about how cool it would be if you could have a wallpaper that showed a beach with waves rushing onto the shore, etc. With this software and the files that people are creating, you can have that same shore with waves, but as it becomes later in the night, the sun starts to set on your beach also (this is an example, I don't know if they have that idea exactly!)!!! Pretty amazing I would say! Here's a cool example (Desktop Earth draws the day/nigh
Another feature that everyone has been dying for, but has not really come to fruition on most people's computers because of various reasons is the ability to have a desktop that is animated rather than simply a static picture! There are applications that have been written that allow you to put animations on your desktop, but nothing really works that great and since it's not built into Windows, the software usually has it's quirks that make it hard to implement easily. But Vista looks like they are going to answer the prayer finally! It's called Windows DreamScene and it's going to allow you to set your desktop background as not only a picture, but also a video! It can be a built-in video or you can even put in your own video! Though, constantly watching the same thing over and over might be disturbing to the mind, I'm sure people will come up with some very cool art videos with crazy graphics like lava flowing across your desktop screen or making your desktop in a ocean full with
Earlier this week, Microsoft released it’s much anticipated Windows Vista Ultimate Extra, DreamScene. DreamScene allows you to set a video as your desktop. It is a cool effect that Microsoft debuted at the Consumer Electronics Show back in January. This is one of my favorite features of my Windows Vista Ultimate. See a demo for yourself below. Ok, here is a short video made by me of DreamScene with StarDock's DeskScapes in action. Pictures just do not do it right, so I decided on getting this captured nicely - Screw the Low Quality YouTube Video! Enjoy full power of Wink :) Both "dreams" are available for download at http://dream.wincustomize.com/ with bunch of other also available. I got you a video in a nice big 12 meg file, playable straight from your browser window. Just click below, new page will open and - Enjoy :) I must say, first two friends of mine when they saw this all they said was "WOW". I guess Microsoft was right - The Wow really DOES start NOW (that the DreamScenes are out) :) Patience - it's 12 megs so let it load...It will open in a new page though :)
It seems that the DreamScene is not yet complete, but Microsoft is giving us all some (well deserved) love by making the DreamScene Technical Preview available in the Windows Update. So all of you with Vista Ultimate editions - fire up that Windows Update and get your groove on. Also - StarDock just released the DeskScapes, a DreamScene add-on which enables you to have a more dynamic content in the background besides the video itself! Simply - WOW :)

Microsoft has released Dreamscene preview to Vista Ultimate users on its Windows Updates site. For those that are not familiar with Dreamscene, the software allows for full motion video to use as your background just as easily as you would select a stationary picture background. The software requires a video card that is capable of pushing the Vista Aero interface and surprisingly enough uses less CPU than you would think.Â
I actually had a chance to test the software about a week ago in a leaked release and surprisingly enough it ran pretty well on an Nvidia Quadro card. The one nag I have is that if you have any video with a fair amount of motion to it it can be very distracting, you will find a great wow effect in the product however, I am not sure I’d run it longer than a few minutes just to show some friends.
If you try it and would like a few extra videos, check out Vista Ultimate
