IN THE NEWS: According to Middle East Online, "When Hassan Amin al-Bana gingerly steps on the gas pedal of his bright yellow taxi, a strange smell wafts from the exhaust: deep-fried fast food. Faced with chronic fuel shortages due to an Israeli blockade, dubbed by human rights groups as “collective punishment”, taxi drivers in the Gaza Strip are filling their tanks with cooking oil, often scrounging leftover fat from street vendors." In his latest post on ESPN, Doug Kretz breaks down the Jets key additions, key losses and needs in the offseason. Kretz pegs the Jets needs at the WR, CB and QB positions.
The top needs for the Jets going into the draft are a wide receiver (preferably one with big-time speed or red-zone presence), [...]
by The Backyard Scrawlerbackyardscrawl@gmail.com Here’s a modest proposal for Pittsburgh football fans: tailgate a College Pro Day. If there are any fans that you would put it past it is the “Steeler Nation.” (Aside: As much as I appreciate the loyalty of Steeler fans across the country, I cringe at this borrowed nickname.) Anyway, if you were denied a hotel room in Pittsburgh last April because of the influx of Steelers fans invading Heinz Field to watch the NFL Draft (live from New York), you know it doesn’t take much to get charcoaled-fueled “Here We Go, Steelers” chants ignited. And, of course, there was this outside of Mercy Hospital awhile back. Dates, schools and times of all the College Pro Day workouts are available here, complete with the pro day leaderboard. Someone,
Ha

The Answer to Bloomberg? Ad-Free Gore! By Hank EdsonI originally posted this piece in a slightly different form back in June, when Bloomberg decided to drop out of the Republican Party. Since Newsweek devoted it's cover story to Bloomberg this week, I thought it was time to reiterate the thoughts I had in June. When New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg broke from the Republican Party this June, there was widespread speculation that he would make an independent run at the presidency using his own fortune. This past week Newsweek renewed interest in this possibility by devoting its cover to Bloomberg’s presidential ambitions. Bloomberg, however, is just the latest act in a political season burgeoning with discontented energy after six plus years of the worst presidency in our history. To begin with, there were all those
Weekend American has done a piece on "Drafting a President" and the Draft Hagel movement has a link of the page. With luck, our Draft Hagel movement can achieve the same result as the Draft Ike movement did fifty years ago.
Just as the editors at TJI were putting the final touches on a feature article about Miami Dolphins wide receiver Chris Chambers, a shocking headline came across the TJI ticker...Chris Chambers has been booked in Charlotte, NC for Driving While Impaired. According to the AP, in addition to DWI, Chambers was charged with speeding and reckless driving. According to some TJI staffers, several profanity-laced tirades were immediately spewed forth by a number of editors. The article, you see, was a finely crafted piece singing the praises of Chambers and encouraging all our readers to draft him. We were expecting him to put up big numbers in 2007 and we devoted 13 paragraphs to extolling his many virtues. We can't confirm this yet, but Chambers just might have been tipping a few back last night in celebration of the publication of this terrific article. Now, were this the old NFL, our first reaction would be "Who cares?" Getting arrested and having charges pressed were ho-hum, rites of passa
The first time I recall my parents mentioning their Will was in advance of a trip to Alaska to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. My Dad had written up a list of instructions for what to do if their plane were to go down. I remember trying to play it off, and not think about the possibility. Luckily, the trip went like clockwork, though they’ve reminded me of the list ever since.
I am now in uncharted territory, having very little debt, and a lot of savings. As a result, and in the event I am knocked off by narco-terrorists or a gonzo sting ray, I decided it would be prudent to draft a Will before leaving the country. In addition, I wanted to give my Mom Financial Power of Attorney so she could act on my behalf (such as being able to deposit money to my accounts, cash checks, help me with my taxes, etc.). Rounding out the legal trifecta would be an Advance Medical Directive in case I end up in a vegetative state someday.
Initially, I expected to have to hire a lawyer

Inspired by Hakim Abdullah's 'Carnival of Islam in the West' yesterday it came to me that there is a necessity also to have a focus and brain-storming about the status of Islam in East. In recent time islam has grown considerably in the west, mostly due to migration of muslims and also from the significant number of reverts or converts to Islam. There are a number of great scholars and experts on Islam who being westerners, are interpreting and researching on a very progressive manner, just as the religion deserved. This is a real positive sign. Now given the intellectual environment, education, progressive western outlook - Islam and Muslims in general are benefitting a lot from west. There is a much greater level of tolerance and a genuine interest in the core teaching of islam. Also the open accomodating nature of western society is becoming instrumental to the harmonization. So in broader sense, there is no extremism coming out from the west. What is lacking is awareness, lack of
Ed Rendell back in 1999 was critical of the Eagles draft pick of McNabb over Ricky Williams. I guess he’s ate those words many times over. McNabb is still here and have at least been to the Super Bowl and Ricky, well, lets just say that he’s got Mary Jane on his mind since testing positive back in April, a month before trying to get back into the league.
Now he is giving the Eagles and Andy Reid shit about their current draft pick in Kevin Kolb.
“It boggles the entire mind,” Rendell told Bloomberg Television when asked about the Eagles’ decision to use their top draft pick on University of Houston quarterback Kevin Kolb. “It was stunning to all of us.”
Rendell said the Eagles should have used their top draft choice on Southern Cal wide receiver Dwayne Jarrett, who was taken nine picks after Kolb by the Carolina Panthers.
“I think we are going to rue the day we didn’t pick him,” Rendell said.
I myself questioned why they wo
The Kansas City Chiefs website has a great article which makes a strong case for drafting a tackle in the first round.Highlights:39 players started five games or more at left tackle during the 2006 season. Of that group 20 were selected in the first round of the NFL draft (51%), including 15 in the top half of the round.among the 12 teams that made the playoffs in the 2006 season, 11 had left tackles that’s were selected among the top 50 players in the NFL Draft.Only five of the 39 players (13%) entered the NFL as undrafted college free agents. That’s fewer undrafted starters than any other positions in the league.Bottom line: You need a good left tackle to be successful in the NFL. Left tackles are hard to come by and the good ones are gone early in the draft.
Yesterday I decided to give Leena's.com:PatternMaker Tutorial a go, in the never ending quest for "The Golden Trouser".
Took measurements, drafted pattern, traced it of adding seam allowances, cut out (of an old sheet) muslin, made it up, took up a hem and put in a zip. Thought this would give me a fairer indication as to what actual garment would look like on.
Well as I thought I had made the crotch depth too , well deep!
Thought about pulling them up ,then I would need totake in darts etc. And having read on Melissa's thread a post which said start from scratch, don't have too many things to alter.
So i am going to go through the process again, because if I had only stuck with my initial instinct and altered the crotch at the pattern tracing stage, I would probably now be on to cutting out in the garment fabric. In all it has taken me about 5 hours from measuring to zipping up my muslin and faffing about pinning and puling up at the waist etc. So of i go again. (Well will work at
Hi! Now that I am ready to work with the student who needs a simple pattern to make slacks, I can not find a single decent pattern that would fit him. He is really slim and has tiny measurements.
Does anyone know of a particular book that would help with drafting mens casual slacks or any suggestions?
Thanks!Last post by Jennifer shaw at Sat 05 Apr 2008 12:29:17 PM Total posts: 1

Hi! I just discovered this forum tonight and am posting because I am stumped. I have a raglan jacket draft and am trying to add in a shawl collar, my raglan line ends in the middle of the neckline. Normally, I would draft a diagonal line from my breakpoint to the neckline intersection, but am confused since my front is in two pieces (the raglan which includes the neck and shoulder intersection and the front piece where the breakpoint is). My question is, how would I draft this with the neckline intersection and breakpoint being on two different pieces? Do I start off with the diagonal line connecting to a different spot? Or do I still draft to the neckline on a diagonal and then... where would I go from there (I had to cut my draft to get rid of a shoulder dart, so the pieces are literally
