      Bacteria-Tainted Syringes Sicken Dozens
Federal health officials are investigating dozens of blood infections linked to medical syringes contaminated with bacteria. About 40 people have been sickened in Illinois and Texas, including 20 outpatients from Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. The infections have been traced to syringes filled with heparin, a blood thinner, which are used during home treatment for cancer and other ailments. The infections were caused by Serratia marcescens bacteria. Syringes from the same batch also were sent to Colorado, Florida and Pennsylvania. The infections cause fevers and chills, and can be serious, but generally respond well to antibiotics.

French scientist unveils dozens of Mona Lisa secrets with his new camera
For centuries, the "Mona Lisa" has beguiled art buffs unable to resist speculating on its origins and meaning. Now a French inventor claims to have some answers, including the fate of the enigmatic subject's famously missing eyebrows and lashes. Parisian engineer Pascal Cotte says his ultra-detailed digital scans of the painting allow him to effectively burrow through layers of paint to "see" into the past of Leonardo Da Vinci's 16th-century portrait of a Florentine merchant's wife. The world's most famous painting originally included both brows and lashes, according to Parisian engineer Pascal Cotte, who says his 240-megapixel scans of the painting reveal traces of Mona Lisa's left brow, obliterated by long-ago restoration efforts. "With just one photo you go deeper into the construction of the painting and understand that Leonardo was a genius," Cotte said at the U.S. debut of an exhibit detailing his findings. As a boy growi

At least 70 Israeli Defense Force soldiers were injured, 3 of them seriously, when a single rocket hit their camp near the Gaza border. The improvised ordinance was fired from inside Gaza Strip, and fell on an unprotected army tent. The parents of the injured soldiers protested about the policy of having such soft military accommodation in base so near the Hamas-controlled Gaza territory. In the mean time, Hamas fighters celebrated what they called a ''successes in a fight against the Israeli occupation'', and their followers distributed sweets in the streets. This is by far the most serious Hamas rocket attack in recent years, and will undoubtedly increase pressure on the Israeli Government to engage the Palestinian militia.

US Troops Found Dozens of Dead Bodies in Iraq!
US troops discovered around 40 bodies in a mass grave located near Fallujah according to the US military today.  The bodies found were reported to have been bound and they had gunshot wounds. In a statement, the military said, “A local Iraqi citizen’s tip led coalition forces to the site of a mass grave late Friday evening outside Ferris, approximately 35 kilometers south of Fallujah.”  They also said that “Coalition forces uncovered 35 to 40 bodies at the site.  The remains were bound and had gunshot wounds.” They still are not certain who carried out this massacre, nor are they sure of when the victims were murdered. This area was once an Al-Qaeda stronghold, but the Sunni tribes have allied with the US forces and have put a stop to most of the violence.

Iraqi Civil War?--Dozens killed in revenge attack in Iraq
So from all accounts that I have been reading the increased security presence (pre surge?) has had a very positive effect in not only Baghdad but across the country. I have read of more businesses opening and older businesses reopening. The flow of Iraqis abandoning their country has slowed back to a large extent. And even such things as seeing children playing in the streets is being reported more often. So my question then is why the hell did it take losing the majority in the Senate, losing the majority in the House, firing the Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and having the new Democrat majorty threatening to cut off funding for the war to get this plan on the road? Why wasn't it done 3 years ago? When I first saw us allowing the Iraqis to burn and loot their own cities immediately upon the beginning of the occupation I felt a twinge of unease. But still, I was a supporter of the President. When I started this blog and really began reading a lot of news from sources all over t

However, it is important to note that most of them were in a serious condition, and some were suffering from prior medical conditions,” said Prof. Yehuda Carmeli, the head of the epidemiology unit at the Sourasky Medical Center in Tel Aviv. According to Carmeli, most of those infected have been hospitalized for over 25 days, and their average age stood at 74-75. The virulent stain of bacteria is resistant to all kinds of antibiotics, and has already spread in many hospitals across Israel. Health Minister Yacov Ben Yizri on Wednesday rejected accusations that his ministry had underestimated the scope of the outbreak, saying the case was kept a secret to prevent mass panic.  “It is true that the bug infects people who have been hosp
