Congress is once again pretending to address its own failings by silencing voices it doesn’t want to hear.
First, it regulated campaign finance. This was supposed to prevent corruption. It didn’t. It merely made incumbents more secure by making it harder for challengers to raise the funds needed to compete with them.
Now they’re proposing so-called lobbying reform.Congressional leaders tell us they “just can’t say no” to the lobbyists who ask them for hand-outs. So Congress pretends to regulate the lobbyists. Don’t believe it.
