Durante mi visita el mes pasado al faro de romano de Dover, dentro del complejo histórico del castillo de esa ciudad, pude tomar esta foto con el celular donde se ven tres aves (quizás palomas, no lograba distinguirlas bien por su estado de descomposición) muertas sobre una red en el interior del faro del cual solo queda en pie su estructura exterior.
Como estas aves había unas cuatro mas en similar estado y dos aún vivas, luchando por salir de una trampa mortal en la cual cayeron sin darse cuenta, probablemente por alguna abertura en las redes superiores que cubren las ventanas del faro.

The Dover Cup ratings were up! ABC/ESPN tells that ABC’s broadcast of Sunday’s Dodge Dealers 400 NASCAR Nextel Cup race at Dover International Speedway earned a 3.5 national rating from Nielsen Media Research. The network says the race was seen by 3,911,057 households, a 15 percent increase over 2006, when the race was carried by the TNT cable station, and 5,498,209 viewers, an increase of 17 percent over last season. It’s obvious that airing a Cup race on network TV rather than cable is a big help.
Carl Edwards avoided trouble on the track Sunday to win at Dover International Speedway, but he found it in the garage. The No. 99 Ford failed the post race inspection because the right rear fender was too low, and NASCAR this week will likely hit Edwards with a fine and dock him crucial points.
The probable penalty will only further jumble a point’s race that has the top six drivers separated by a mere 18 points. Jeff Gordon seized the points lead, with Tony Stewart second. Jimmie Johnson, who led the standings entering the day, fell to fourth.
Newman, Alltel Team Start 24th and Finish 28th after wreck-filled race at the 'Monster Mile' Driver of the No. 12 Alltel Dodge Ryan Newman and XM Satellite Radio Host Claire B. Sleeping Monster Wakes Up 14 Laps Too Soon It appeared that the Monster took the weekend off, but 14 laps from the finish six Dodges were collected in a 12-car-accident. Kurt Busch, Dodge's only driver in The Chase, was part of that on-trace mishap and now ranks 11th in the standings, 157 points out of the lead. Carl Edwards won the race and created a logjam at the top – at least for now because Edward's car did not pass post-race inspection. Fines possible and point deductions will be handed down later this week. Roolkie Juan Pablo Montoya finished ahead of all the other Dodge drivers with a 10th-place run in his No. 42 Texaco Dodge at the track known as the Monster Mile. With two rounds in the Chase for the Nextel Cup Championship complete, I would have thought by this point (after two races…) the chase picture would have looked more spread out considering what happened last season at first race with the lap 3 wreck and most contenders falling or crashing out early, but that wasn’t the case at all and no one expected to see Clint Bowyer pickup his first career victory and in such dominating fashion. When you looked at the other chasers after New Hampshire, just about everyone had really good runs and nothing really changed expect for Bowyers position moved up to fourth in the points.However the opposite happened in Dover, I truly believe that that racetrack is the Monster Mile, it threw everything at the chase drivers including what some would say the kitchen sink, first the crash with Hamlin and Petty were Hamlin just looked like he ran over Petty and including the little fight sort of speck in the garage area, but the second thing, the huge crash

(Sept. 19, 2007) Although Ryan Newman, driver of the No. 12 Alltel Dodge Avenger, is not involved in the 2007 Chase for the Championship, he is still achieving good, solid runs on the track each week.When the Chase kicked off last weekend at New Hampshire International Speedway, Newman qualified fifth and finished ninth one of three non-chasers to finish in the top 10.This weekend, Newman will make his 12th Cup start at Dover International Speedway and the 216th of his career in NASCAR's premier series in the Dodge Dealers 400.We had a great run here in June and were hoping to do the same thing this time, Newman said. We ran pretty well last week and I think weve got a pretty good COT program at Penske Racing, so we should have a good chance this weekend. I woke up and showered. I’m relegated to my long sleeve shirt until I do laundry (at a hostel in London, hopefully). I’m on the TGV to Calais, and should be there in less than two hours. I’m looking forward to the hovercraft ride. I’ll just put on my headphones and rock out to the breeze, and sight of the white Cliffs of Dover. I hope I can stay at the hostel there (Dover) for a night. Otherwise, I’ll have to bum rush London! Though the rest of my trip might be more expensive, everyone will speak English, so I won’t have to worry about weak attempts at foreign communication. I plan on buying one souvenir, and that will be in Ireland.
When I got to the shuttle pick-up for the Hover port, no one was there, everyone was apparently taking the ferries (slower and cheaper). I like the fact that the departure information calls the trip a “flight.” From the noise, I can tell I just missed the docking/entrance of the hove
I am blogging from the lobby of Microtel Inn and Suites in Dover, DE. My tummy is full of Applebee's food, and I've checked my e-mail, so this is the only thing I have left to do. The drive down was BE-YOO-TEE-FUL, and I drove across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge...AND NOBODY DIED! Actually, once we drove across the bridge, the lay of the land looked a lot more like Iowa/Illinois. Lots of cornfields, pickup trucks, fruit/veggie stands, yard sales, etc. And OF COURSE I saw my mommy. And so far, things are going well...we've been gabbing and enjoying our time together. I wish it was a longer time. We haven't seen the baby yet because there's some (minor) trouble...baby's slightly jaundiced. The daddy (my cousin David) is nervous about that, plus he's getting shipped off to Iraq on or around Labor Day. NASCAR announced Friday that Kurt Busch, driver of the No. 2 Dodge in the Nextel Cup Series, has been penalized 100 championship driver points, fined $100,000 and placed on NASCAR probation until Dec. 31, 2007, for violating Section 12-4-A (actions detrimental to stock car racing — reckless driving; endangering a crew member on pit road) of the 2007 NASCAR rule book.

(read more..)Yeah that title does say it all (in this my 400th post...), after a rain postponed race, Monday brought cloud cover, but no rain for this one and what a race this one turned out to be in the sixth Car of Tomorrow race and for the most part it made for even better racing as it has in the past five races.Amazingly enough there was very few caution flags during this one, but no late race caution, NASCAR did throw two competition cautions at the beginning of this one for tire ware issues (no rubber on track) which in both cases sent everyone to the pits for tires. Harrisburg, Pennysylvania. - A federal judge who barred a Pennsylvania school district from teaching 'intelligent design' virtually copied findings suggested by the winning side in a key section of the landmark ruling, according to a Seattle think tank that promotes the concept and has criticized the decision.
But legal experts say it is common for judges in civil cases to rely heavily on findings proposed by lawyers when they write their opinions, and there is nothing wrong with copying those findings if the legal briefs have been well-prepared.
The Discovery Institute on Tuesday released a study* in which it compared the December 2005 ruling by U.S. District Judge John E. Jones III with findings proposed by lawyers for eight families who sued to have intelligent design removed from the Dover Area School District's biology curriculum. The decision equated intelligent design, which attributes the complexity of living organisms to an unidentified intelligent cause, with creationism.
