The Vermont House and Senate have approved a bill that will allow specialty beers with an alcohol by volume above 8 percent to be sold in grocery and convenience stores. Rep. John Rodgers sponsored the bill which would improve the distribution of the beers in Vermont. Currently, only the 75 liquor stores in the state can sell beer above 8 percent alcohol by volume. This has cut sales of the beers.To become law, Gov. James Douglas must sign the bill. Otter Creek Brewing has indicated it plans to launch a new beer if the law in Vermont changes. Another brewer, Shaun Hill, says he plans to launch Hill Farmstead Brewery and focus on classic high gravity brewing styles.

Joe Douglas, who earlier in the month set a record for riding Universal Studios Revenge of the Mummy dark ride/roller coaster, has broken his 101 trip record.  Demolished it actually.  132 trips. Joe posted an update in my earlier blog posting that the wait times were only around 5 minutes all day. Universal should take advantage or Joe’s fandom and issue a press release about his accomplishment.  Even better, they could work out a day with Joe where he is able to ride consecutively w/o getting off except for a needed break (bathroom, stretch, etc.)  By cutting out the time Joe would spend in the queue- either walking or waiting, Joe should be able to eclipse the 132 number.   During a slow day, this would have little impact on the park visitors.  If Joe is alone, they could fill the rest of his row with others.  This could be easy publicity.  Especially if they do it now.  Universal is trying to do more for Christmas and this would be yet another opportunity for them t

Most everyone starts out by learning a few different guitar strum patterns on the guitar. Although the basic strum patterns are hard enough to master once you get them down you can really start to enjoy playing the guitar. If you want your playing to sound better than it really is it is time to master a few guitar strum patterns that will make your music come alive. When you start strumming the guitar your patterns will consist of upstrokes and down strokes. An upstroke is when you move your pick toward you in an upward manner and a down stroke starts at the top and goes down. All of your guitar strum patterns will be some variation of this basic movement. When you start adding in variations and different timing patterns your playing will start to sound really good. Family history is something of a now and again activity for me. When I found the big family bible some years ago, I had a major flurry of activity going through it and integrating all the information into what I already had and then it was a few years before anything else happened. Then there was the arrival of the Mormon family history site which seemingly filled in numerous details that were missing from the family bible. Mainly places of birth and death but also a number of relatives who weren’t mentioned in the family bible. I also ventured into the various family history forums on the Internet but with a name like Stewart they’re not nearly so useful as you might expect as there are just too many Stewarts around in the world these days. It’s worth looking at that site now and again and indeed the forums as people add information to the various sites over time. I was totally impressed by the first book The hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy. This second book in the series takes of where the first book leaves us. The crew was heading to the restaurant at the end of the universe, because they felt like having not eaten for decades, and that is where they will land, but…there is always a but…only after Marvin the depressed robot is left behind several times, Zaphod is taken on a ride to “infinity” by his great-grandfather he summoned to get some information and getting more than he has bargained for in the process. Finally at the restaurant they meet with a cow who wants to be eaten and is making a great effort to show off his gorgeous shoulders and ribs and they meet with the end of the universe. What is left after seeing that? Well, a visit to the ruler of the universe of course, to finally get the big question to the answer 42. This book is as funny and intelligently written as the first one. On to book #3!

Readers, I just started reading Mark Douglas’ The Disciplined Trader and am gripped by the intro and first chapter and wanted to pass on the reference to those who are gripped by fear in trading. I take notes on everything I read, and in this book, I have written down so much already, and I am just beginning!  I can’t wait to study more into the insights of the book and how fear develops, causes us to trade from a fear mentality, constricts our view of market opportunities, and causes what we fear to come true.  I suppose I’m most interested in how to overcome this, but knowing the foundation is important. Mark gives his personal story, which sets up the rest of the book, and describes how successful traders can overcome their fears with a new mentality. I plan to post more insights from my personal experience and trading as I progress, but I wanted to pass on how much this book has captivated me already. I've long been a fan of Coupland, and I got this book about a year ago, thinking I was going to read it immediately. As is fairly typical around these parts, I just got around to it last week, and finished it last night. After saying in my last post that the weather was a bit grotty, last Sunday afternoon the sun came out so I went for a walk down to the boatyard and along the banks of the River Douglas.I've been walking along this stretch of our local river since I was a child (a long time ago) and my father used to keep his boat on a fixed mooring in a creek off the river - I remember going out in the middle of the night fishing off Blackpool and not being able to come back until the tide came back in.After getting to the boatyard I turned left and walked along the top of the embankment that keeps the flood tide out of the fields.This tree stump has been here almost as long as I can remember.
