Now talk about same ingredients taking form as different dishes! The grated carrot and coconut finds its way in yet another form, now the famous Vadas! We had this recipe bookmarked for a long time but since this involves deep frying I had been avoiding it and saying no to Athamma whenever she asked for this. Finally Athamma decided she will do it herself and not wait for me. Well not that I say n
A south indian breakfast vada are made from white Ural lentil are good source of calcium and protein. Typically deep fried in vegetable oil can be packed with calories. But if you can shallow fry in extra virgin olive these vadas can be a guilt free healthy start of the day .I prepare them mostly on weekend brunch because making vada requires soaking, grinding and shaping not possible to make on w
That's right. The head of the Associated Press addressed Barack as "Osama" while John McCain was given a box of Dunkin' Donuts -- with sprinkles, by none other than AP writer Liz Sidoti, who just wrote a partisan attack article against Obama. (Video clip included.)read more | digg story
While I was in Fort Wayne two weekends ago, I retraced the very path that my grandparents and I used to take for cheese and doughnuts. After crossing Third Street over to Wells Street, we would walk down the sidewalk - past 2nd Street, past 1st Street - and we would come across Richard's Bakery. How to describe the baking smell coming from Richard's Bakery? I'm not eloquent enough - that's for sure
An Indonesian woman accused of bribing a prosecutor handed out boxes of doughnuts at her trial Friday, reports said.Artalyta Suryani is accused of giving a 660,000-dollar bribe to the leading prosecutor to get him to drop an investigation into a banking tycoon wanted for alleged embezzlement of billions of dollars.Reports from the gallery indicated that after judges rejected her initial defense an
Oh... These few days, I've been lazing about at home. Watching korean drama series. Flipping through those boring channels on Astro. :P And starting making stuff with felt again.Received a custom order on Etsy to make doughnuts and purins (puddings). Though they look simple, but I spent quite some time to get them done. ^-^"{Little purin + doughnuts}Oh, and the customer requested a large puri
The birthday and party went really well. The husband was sick of me whining about a cake, so he made his own, which was much better than anything I could have pulled off! You can see she was impressed above! ;-) I ordered one for the party itself, and it went swimmingly. I still can't believe my baby is two and my blog is one!So on a tasty note, Tartalette and Peabody are hosting a Time to Make Doughnuts event. Since trying Tartalette's amazing Apple Cider Beignets, I have not been able to get doughnuts off my mind! I made a batch of doughnuts yesterday but as I was letting them rise the fruit bowl caught my eye. Remembering the beautiful combination of batter and apple of those beignets and my sinful Chinese favourite Banana Fritters I had an idea! What if I were to encase some ba
I almost feel bad posting a photograph of doughnuts. Almost. I know most of you are trying to diet and start the New Year off healthy. And I will not be featuring any fat-free or butter-free baked goods here. This is because I usually eat whole grains, many salads, and a lot of vegan meatless products (even though I am not a vegetarian or vegan; I just like they way they taste & convenience). I try to eat healthy so when I do have a doughnut I am not riddled with guilt. And my friend T. has made me feel guilty because she has her heart set on dieting.Last night, she requested a fat-free doughnut and I laughed and hung up on her. I know a bit harsh, but later on, I felt guilty and started my search for her doughnut. Which brings us to this wonderful stack of cinnamon sugar happi

Doughnuts? Donuts? Well however you spell it these aren't quite Krispy Kremes but they're a lot better for you and are relatively easy to make, especially if you have a bread machine. They're frequently requested around here, make a great breakfast and are tasty with hot cider.Combine the following ingredients in this order in your bread machine and set your machine to "dough" cycle:1 cup milk¼ cup wheat germ3 ¾ cups flour3 tablespoon olive oil3 tablespoon brown sugar1 large grated apple1 large egg2 ½ teaspoon cinnamon1 teaspoon salt1 teaspoon ginger1 tablespoon fast-acting yeastWhen the dough is ready, shape into 14 donuts and let them rise 30 minutes. Bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until browned and done. Immediately dip in a cinnamon/sugar mix (you can dip it in butter first if you dare, the taste is worth it but the calories may kill you).Technorati tags: desserts, baking, donuts, apples
A man walked into a greasy spoon and ordered a hamburger. He watched as the slovenly, shirtless cook grabbed a fistful of raw meat, crammed it under his arm and began flapping his arm until it took the shape of a patty."Ooooo! That's gross!" shouted the customer."Hah! You think that's bad?" the cook retorted, "You ought to see how I make glazed doughnuts!"
This is what senior citizens at the William Koehler Memorial Senior Center in New York resorted to when they were basically told that they didn’t know what was good for them.
The protest started when the center decided not to accept free doughnuts for the seniors because they are bad for you. I love the sign on the left of the picture, we are old enough to chose. While he may believe that he is old enough to choose, the truth is that the liberals in government never believe you are old enough to take care of yourself. Now this way of thinking is creeping into other organizations. It is becoming a mindset, and people don’t even realize it. The government decides that it is their duty to regulate trans-fats and the next thing you know our senior citizens are being denied doughnuts.
Here are a couple of examples of some of the other signs the protesters wore:
“Give Us Our Just Desserts” and “They’re Carbs, Not Contraband.”

This particular dish makes a neat offbeat side dish that will leave your friends and neighbors talking for weeks on end. "Say, did you hear about those potato doughnuts?" Once in awhile, I'll tweak this recipe a little bit by adding a small jalapeno pepper (diced fine) and a small amount of grated sharp cheddar cheese.

Naomi Campbell was picked to do one of the two things she's good at for a Dunkin' Donuts commercial, and lets just say she's not strutting down the catwalk. She's supposed to be trying to plant a tree in full runway gear and has the unfortunate accident of breaking her heel in the process sending her into a full on rage, GASP! She kicks a tree, chucks the shovel, but unfortunately there was no personal assistant to throw a phone at, so throwing her shoe through the window had to suffice. All joking aside, I'd throw a fit if I had to a) plant a tree in couture and b)if I ruined a gorgeous pair of heels in the process, and no amount of Dunkin' Donuts anything would chill me out!
We decided to head out to a big shopping centre in the area for a day out on Saturday. We were after THIS for Elliot, but also ended up buying him THIS. As we were walking around, we noticed a massive crowd of people and a whole lot of Krispy Kremes... that were going for free. Free. Krispy Kremes. While I got pushed around in the crowd, N snagged us a box of 12 original glazed. I had a good weekend. What did you do?
Mimi's got a bit of a sweet tooth, and has been hinting that she'd been craving for a good doughnut lately. I happily can take that hint. Krispy Kreme is a bit out of my grandparents usual territory, and I couldn't imagine them navigating their 20 year old Audi through the drive through. Grandma Mimi loves chocolate and apples, and Grandpa Larry loves maple... or was that The Boy who liked Maple...oh shoot it was. Well, I orded an old faashioned chocolate glazed that Mimi and Larry can arm wrestle for. A glazed raised Maple, an apple fritter filled and a whole wheat doughnut that a certain someone maybe have had a nibble of. It was for research! I say- if your gonna have a dough nut, have a dough nut. The glazed whole wheat is like having a piece of wheat toast with 3 table spoons of maple sugar poured over it. Where is the fun in that? Anyway, I wrote a love note and left the dough nuts on their doorstep since they were out grocery shopping.
Went out and about on this fine Spring
Food chains must think we are fucking stupid. Until this very moment, they have faked openness and wholesomeness, and have pulled it off well. Here, I present a number of big secrets. Some things you shouldn't know. The elements that make Krispy Kreme and Starbucks taste so good.
1. Reused oil
2. Trans-fats
3. Refined sugar
4. Unpronouncable additives
5. Abused cow-teets
5. Trance-states

This morning at my 4-year olds school it was the official "Daddy & Doughnuts" day. I've heard about this day for months, and Ryan has been asking incessantly if it was the day for doughnuts with daddy. Well, today was the day. First thing this morning, Ryan crawls in bed with me and cuddles up, and says, "Happy Father's Day! I Love You Daddy!" Of course everyone knows that Father's day is in June, but who cares? Ryan has been secretly making things to give me on this special morning. Of course he thinks they are a secret, but daddy always knows. So this morning I sat with him and all the other dads and ate up all the doughnuts and chocolate milk we could. When we were finished he gave me a really cool frame with his picture inside. It was presented to me as if it were the greatest work of art I had ever seen; and yes, of course it was Great!Knowing that Ryan was having his Daddy and doughnuts day at school on Thursday morning, I got up early Wednesday morning and took my 3-
