      The Pastor Double Standard
Since the media waste so much time on Barack Obama's crazy reverend, I now fully expect them to waste as much time on John McCain's crazy pastors out of fairness.Or how about this? Can we just now agree that these types of religious nutjobs should be treated as the lunatics they are? Or, even better, can we just make religion irrelevant for this election requiring people to use their brains when deciding who to vote for, as opposed to voting for them based on how many superstitions they believe in?

Display and search: why the double standard?
By David SinghSearch and display advertising can benefit both your direct response and your branding goals. Here's the breakdown. It has always perplexed me that standards for different online marketing channels differ, despite the fact that the internet is always driven by the user. Unlike traditional marketing where the touch points may or may not be initiated by the individual, in the online world it is the person who goes to the websites, and it is the person who initiates a search query. So shouldn't the measurement of our ad effectiveness be the same across channels? But it isn't the same. We generally look at search based on direct response (DR) metrics, while we look at display based on branding metrics. Many times clients who utilize both will assign different success metrics to each, holding search to a much stricter standard. David Ogilvy once said "If it doesn't sell, it isn't creative." This motto is taken to heart in search but is more flexible i

      Google Adsense - Double Standard
After weeks of waiting, finally I got my Adsense application status from Google. Unfortunately, it was a "rejection or I do't want you" status. Following is the contents Google mailed me: Hello Herman,Thank you for your interest in Google AdSense. Unfortunately, afterreviewing your application, we're unable to accept you into Google AdSense at this time. We did not approve your application for the reasons listed below.Issues:- Page type---------------------Further detail:Page type: We don't currently accept sites devoted to programs which compensate users for clicking on ads or offers, performing searches, surfing websites, or reading emails. This would include, for instance, "Pay to Read Email" sites or sites that compare "Pay to Surf"programs. To me, that is fair enough since that the contents on my blog is mostly about GTP Programs and links to them. Not satisfied with the email, I then tried to google on "Google adsense on PTC Blog" and the result, most of the site/blog have googl

A Double Standard for American Juveniles
In May 2000, 13 year-old Nathaniel Brazill, an African-American boy from a low-income Florida family, shot and killed his middle school teacher, Barry Grunow, on the last day of school. A few weeks earlier, also in Florida, 12 year-old Lionel Tate killed his 6 year-old playmate while practicing a wrestling move he saw on television. Nathaniel BrazillBoth these cases stirred controversy in Florida not because of the senselessness of the crimes, but because of the severity of the punishments: Brazill was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 28 years in prison without the possibility of parole. And Tate was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, making him the youngest person in modern US history to be sentenced to life in prison. Both were tried as adults, and at the ages of 14 and 13 respectively, were locked away in adult prisons to serve their sentences. At the time of their convictions, Florida led the nation

Hilton's prosecutor under fire for double standard
The city prosecutor who condemned Paris Hilton's early release from jail as celebrity favoritism is now under fire for a case of special treatment closer to home -- acknowledging his wife was wanted for arrest for nine years. The disclosure, first reported by the Los Angeles Times on Wednesday, is the latest in a mushrooming scandal that has engulfed City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo, who ran for California attorney general last year but lost.According to the Times, a warrant for his wife's arrest was issued by a judge in 1998 after she failed to appear in court on charges of driving without insurance on a suspended license in an unregistered car.Michelle Delgadillo, originally charged under her maiden name, was never detained in the nine intervening years, though the court order for her arrest remained valid until Wednesday.Hours after the Times story broke, she appeared in court to plead no contest to a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license, and the warrant was canceled. She

      Double Standard Revealed Again…
In what may be his strongest public statements against the Bush administration, presidential candidate Mitt Romney says his fellow Republicans in the Bush White House made mistakes in Iraq that the country is still paying for. Romney also deplores the polygamy his ancestors practiced in the 19th Century in a 60 MINUTES interview with Mike Wallace to be broadcast Sunday, May 13 (7:00-8:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. “I think the administration made a number of errors,” he tells Wallace. “I don’t think we were adequately prepared for what occurred. I don’t think we did enough planning. I don’t think we considered the various downsides and risks,” says Romney. He says President Bush isn’t the only one to blame. “He’s the person where the buck stops, but it goes through the secretary of defense and the planning agencies, the Department of State — it’s the whole administration,” Romney says. “T

Is Imus The Victim Of A Double Standard?
Whenever a media personality is canned for his/her remarks or views, the old arguments resurface. You know the routine. Haul out the usual suspects and unfurl the banners. In Imus' case the usual culprits are his free speech, his personal freedom, accusations of racism, political insensitivity, morality and our decadent culture.Just like Imus has the privilege to speak his mind and select his language, other people have the privilege not to listen or criticize him for his remarks. The problem with the vast majority is that few, if any, people on earth really understand what freedom means. Far too many have this infantile notion and opinion that freedom means doing or saying anything one pleases. This is not freedom. This is arrogance, anarchy, chaos, ignorance and stupidity of the most vile, corrupt and dangerous kind.Freedom carries with it awesome responsibilities, the likes of which few are even capable of understanding. That's precisely why no one on the planet is free. No

A classic example of the liberal double standard
Ezra Levant has a great example of how the media really didn't seem to notice when Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer attacked Condoleezza Rice's status as a single woman.Boxer was flustered by Rice -- a multilingual PhD, former head of Stanford University, concert pianist and Russian expert. Out of arguments, Boxer degenerated into sneers: "You're not going to pay a particular price, as I understand it, with an immediate family," she said. "So who pays the price? The American military and their families."Of all the arguments the Democrats can muster to oppose Rice, of all the facts and figures and logic, the best they can do is point out Rice is a single woman with no kids in the military. This, from the party that claims to be feminist?...Now imagine, for a moment, if the roles had been reversed. Imagine if it had been a Republican who had attacked a Democrat because she was a single woman -- a black single woman, to boot. The charges of sexism would have come fast and furious -- and,

      Dissecting the double standard....
Why is it that we look at things differently depending on whether it's a man or a woman who does something? Think about it. We tend to be guilty of this at times without even realizing it.It's 2005. Women as a gender have gone much further than they ever did before, and if the present trend continues, we will be seeing a lot more of women in fields which used to be exclusively the domain of men. Nowadays you'd be hard pressed to name one profession in which women have not entered. The idea of men being totally superior to women is a long outdated and obsolete concept which is hardly ever brought up anymore, except for the occassional retort of some male chauvinists who still manage to survive in this day and age. Of course, some of the stereotypes live on. Every time there's a bad driver on the road, there are still those who assume it to be a female. Women, while now allowed in various armed forces around the world, are still not routinely assigned to frontline duty and are usuall
