I’ve never been in a car with GPS (Global Positioning System), but it must be fascinating. I’m traveling to a funeral this morning in a remote part of East Tennessee and I’m worried about getting lost. I just finished reading Divine Canine by The Monks of New Skete. I had heard of them before but until now had never read one of their books.
In the book, we follow Brother Christopher as he trains a number of dogs with various issues. And, rather than lumping all the dogs together and saying this is how it’s done, the first thing he does is that he gets to know the dogs’ backgrounds, what issues their people are dealing with in regards to the dog, and how that dog fits into the family. After he has the background information he is able to tailor a program specifically for that dog. And, because the dogs in the book are all unique, the solutions for them are unique as well - even if some of them need work on the same skills.
The pet owners receive some training as well. Initially the dogs stay with the Monks while they are being trained, but once the owners come to pick the dogs up, they go through their own training session. Brother Christopher talks with them about their o

My friend Joe who is a pastry chef extrordinaire (in the Dominican Republic) gave me this recipe years ago. It became my Dad's favorite cake, and one he always asked me to bake for him on his Birthday. Sadly, Dad's no longer here to enjoy it, but we celebrate his life daily, and his Birthday each Septemember. That's as it should be, and exactly what we did today.It's a very chocolatey cake with a mousse layer which adds to the silky smoothness. A little known trick of the trade, a way to make your cakes more robust with chocolate flavour, is to substitute cocoa powder for part of the flour. Such is the case with the Cocoa Génoise cake used in this recipe. Be gentle when removing your cake from the springform bottom. I usually use a pastry brush to spread the cake with some framboise, prior to spreading the mousse over the layers. We finally were just contacted by DCF and thank God by divine intervention we were assigned a very understanding worker. The same woman who went out to the facility but was not able to see our daughter nor was she given any more information then that Ebony was discharged and family was refusing to pick her up. We quickly set the record straight as to what is happening and promised to come into the office on Monday with copies of all our paperwork. So far it can't be considered abandonment because we have maintained contact with the facility and our daughter. They also cannot demand us to take her home when they are saying she needs more care than we can give , that would be considered medical neglect on their part. The caseworker was also quite upset to hear that the facility for months now has been pressuring us to relinquish our parental rights.
