Last month, Google product managers and marketers held a workshop on video advertising and content monetization at the Ad:Tech conference in San Francisco. I have read a few pieces recently explaining the Judaic roots of Christianity. They were written in a way that made it seem that the majority of Christians were unaware of the Jewishness of Jesus. I found it somewhat offensive that these articles were written in this manner.

An article by Michael Dobbs in today’s Washington Post examines at length the argument over Sen. Although I have previously professed my faith, I have kept religious discussion to a minimum. On my 600th post I thought I would try something different. The Christian Testament book of Revelation has a very interesting reference to two witnesses whom G-d sends to earth.

Well last night I woke up at about 2 am and was having a dream… but the only thing I really remember about it now was that I was having a discussion with my husband. It wasn’t bad, so I didn’t have a bad feeling about it. But I don’t remember what it was, either.

I thought I would share a few more reflections about the film and discussion last night at Milligan College. I need to be careful not to speak out of school as this was a discussion for the students and faculty of the campus. They were gracious to allow visitors to attend. I was impressed by the way the conversation was moderated and by the number of students who attended. Including the film and discussion, we were there from seven to about ten-thirty.I am incredibly grateful to Andy Olivo and the other students who organized this as well as the faculty who participated on the panel, and the administration for allowing this discussion to be held. Andy did a super job showing the purpose of the gathering, leading us in prayer, and telling us what the gathering would not do--lead u

This past week, the last group led a discussion on Hip Hop around the world. I was apart of this group. The discussion was wonderful. But, I have to say that doing research on this topic has been very enlightening for me. I was amazed by the amount of music I found from all over the world. My group is doing a documentary on this now, and it is great to hear about International Hip Hop from various students on campus who lived in various countries. Today, I just narrated the introduction to the documentary. We are trying to make it at least 20 minutes long. I hope to share it with all of you here very soon. Shout out to my group. We did our thing, and I look forward to finishing the documentary this upcoming week. Below is some materials we found and some other materials I really wanted to
From their different locations and traditions all are called in Christ to share in the unity of the family of God's children... Jesus destroys the walls of division and creates unity in a new and unsurpassed way through our sharing in his mystery. This unity is so deep that the Church can say with Saint Paul: ‘You are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are saints and members of the household of God' (Eph 2:19)”. - Pope John Paul, IIThe panel was moderated by CBS Executive Producer (Cultural and Religious Broadcasts) John R. As many of you know I work part time at a bookstore because (a) I don't make enough with RRS to support all my bills and (b) I love books and enjoy selling them to people. Well, yesterday morning as I was helping somebody in the religion section, a customer asked me for books on illnesses. I walked her over to the section and pointed out some books of interest to her, and as I was walking away she stated affirmatively that she had managed to get her son to read, and that her job was accomplished for the day even if she didn't find the book she was looking for. After suggesting that I probably read a lot of fiction because I work in a bookstore, I told her that I spent most of my time reading ancient fiction, being that my full time job was that I was a historian. rea

So I’ve been going to a “working parents group” at my company, with most of the group being relatively new parents. I’d guess most folks’ kids are under 5 or 6. This group is pretty new, so I’d be interested to hear about other folks’ experiences with similar groups at your workplaces, what you are talking about, and what you find the most productive use of your time. Here are some of the topics that we have started discussing or that are on our list: babysitting cooperatives;options for emergency childcare;school options (evaluating public-school districts and private schools);estate planning (and in particular, how to consider a guardian for your kids);life insurance; andfinancial planning. If you have any blog or website resources that discuss one or more
This past week in class, we discussed the role of women in Hip Hop. Back in the day, women were all over the place doing all aspects Hip Hop. Now, you have a few female rappers left. Even they are disappearing, getting locked up along with other things. Women are nothing more than sex objects in mainstream Rap music videos. It is sad to me that this is happening. I am currently writing a paper related to this subject for my Black Feminist Thought class. I might post it in many parts in the future. My club, Hip Hop Alliance, did a discussion on the role of women in Hip Hop. I will post the videos of it in the future. I would love to hear a woman Rap. If there are any female MCs, e-mail me at DADDYMACK31@HOTMAIL.COM (seriously). Let's get this popping. I know that some are out there. Shout o

This week's discussion was on Breakdancing. I have seen Breakdancing before, but not on the level that I have this past week. I was really amazed by what I have seen. Today, Breakdancing has been forgotten, but it has evolved over the years. MTV'S America's Best Dance Crew is proof of that. Even on that show, you can see that some dancers keep Breakdance alive by showing off the old school moves. Some old school crews still do their thing today like the Rock Steady Crew. Shout out to the group who led the discussion for showing me some amazing things. Below are materials from the discussion and some materials I found. I am sorry I missed this yesterday, but thanks to podcasting, it's available nonetheless.Yesterday, the Rev. Jesse Jackson joined Imus in the Morning to discuss the life and times of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Of course, Jackson was with King the night he was assassinated in Memphis, and he was one of the last people King spoke with before being gunned down. The interview is fascinating and lasts about 19 minutes. I hope you'll take a few moments to listen. The interview renews my faith things can get better in this country. Just a year ago, who would have dreamed Jackson would be a guest on Imus' program?

Yesterday I heard perhaps the worst discussion on how to negotiate a trade on a podcast. Here are the gory details.
To paraphrase a famous quote, it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubts. Sometimes podcasters do not know what to say, so they say something incredibly dumb and even if it is in the defense of a sound principle it comes off
Something has occurred to me, thanks to a cheeky post from The B-Movie Catechism. The first fantasy creature C. S. Lewis introduces in The Chronicles of Narnia is a faun. Traditionally, fauns are associated with uncontrollable lust, but Lewis not only depicts his faun as a good character, but allows him to take a little girl home for tea, unsupervised. Is any Christian willing to condemn Lewis for this? Any? If no one will condemn Lewis for his chaste faun, let us have no more talk of condemning other fantasists for their friendly dragons.

In this week's class, we talked about MCing. It was a good discussion. In today's world, people either do not know what a MC is or do not know the difference between a MC and a Rapper. KRS-One explained it well in The MC: Why We Do It. He said that a Rapper is a person who is of corporate interest. The Rappers make music to sell albums. As it is known in America, "sex sells" (sadly). Their music is mostly sexist and homophobic. KRS-One goes on to say that the MC embodies Hip Hop Culture. MCs make music for the people (to educate, tell stories and make aware of certain issues), and he can be a Rapper. I agreed with KRS-One until he talked about a Rapper not being able to be a MC. I think that Rappers can see the light and become a MC. Lupe Fiasco is an example of that. If you don't know wha

Dearborn, Mich. -- How would other people perceive black men dating white women? How would other people perceive interracial relationship? Those are the first of several questions that were thought of at a panel discussion inside the Kochoff Hall at the University Center (UC) at University of Michigan-Dearborn on Friday. “Conservation of Race” continues on campus with “Interracial Relationships”.The students’ thoughts and opinions on this sensitive issue before the discussion was that interracial relationships “should be treated no less than relationships of the same race”. But some stated that information about interracial relationship isn’t “very informed” and people should know more about it, while others agreed that dating someone of a different race is “difficult
Another Peggy Seltzer and Gordon Sayre slap down by Bob Welch, who is a columnist for Eugene's Register-Guard and is an adjunct professor of journalism at the University of Oregon in Eugene. If you've been following this you know that Peggy Seltzer was revealed to be a literary fraud and that essentially nothing in her Love and Consequences memoir is even close to the truth. Sayre, who was her professor in 2001, said this:Every memoir or autobiography is an individual’s fashioning of his or her life, directed toward that individual’s conception of audience. The more intimate or psychological the events recounted — of childhood trauma, of addiction, of religious conversion, or even of racial identity — the more ludicrous it is for readers to insist upon documentary truth.Huh? Group DiscussionA Group Discussion can be defined as a formal discussion involving 10 to 12 participants in a group. It is a methodology used by an organization to gauge whether the candidate has certain personality traits and/or skills that it desires in its members. In this methodology, the group of candidates is given a topic or a situation, given a few minutes to think about the same, and then asked to discuss it among themselves for 15-20 minutes. As in a football game, where you play like a team, passing the ball to each team member and aim for a common goal, GD is also based on team work, incorporating views of different team members to reach a common goal.Group Discussion is one thing that needs practice for the following reasons:It takes a bit of time to get used to speaking in a gr
As Josh and I are at NOI’s Blogger Training today, perhaps some folks would like to talk about the blogosphere this morning. Some issues that have already come up:
Is anonymity for commenters and authors a good idea?
How do you draw more people in and get them talking?
Should you endorse specific candidates?
If any bloggers or blog readers out there have some insights you want to share, feel free to speak up!

This post is for Scratch Magazine. Let us all hope it comes back better than ever. In class last week, we discussed DJing. Back when Hip Hop first started, the DJ was the one who people favored the most. He or she was the main headliner for shows. The DJs introduced MCs to the world at parties. DJs would play a record while MCs keep the crowd engaged with vocals. The MC was the DJ's hypeman. Today, The DJ is pushed to the background and the MC takes center stage. The group leading the discussion reminded me how important the DJ was and still is today. Shout out goes to the group. Just like the post before, here are materials from the discussion and some materials I found. April 22nd, 2008 - BAFTA LondonEffective leadership differentiates the successful companies from unsuccessful ones and the majority of companies now undertake leadership development activities to identify and develop high potential employees for the leadership roles of the future. However many organisations fail to demonstrate any clear enhancement in business performance, despite the investment that has been made - poor implementation and a lack of clear talent development strategies leads to disengagement, reduced human capital ROI and resignations. The challenge for HR Directors is devising and implementing an effective strategy that demonstrates a positive impact on the business. For more information, click here.

Attraction of sites depends upon templates. The most commonly used template is 3 column template. Some tips:3 column templates are mainly used to make the site attractive and publish ads & other graphics like status counter, online counter etc.But 3 column templates decrease the writing space so if any one wants to write only blog should use 2 column template. It gives more writing space than 3 column and you can easily place your ads and other displays in the second column so it does not affect your writing. Some mind blowing free background codes are available in MySpaceValley ,the link is placed in the right link corner.Choosing good text and heading color is also important.Using appropriate font, text color, background, link color, using html codes and javascript makes the impression. So tem
Jr. DBA asked me a day ago, how to apply DISTINCT keyword to only first column of SELECT. When asked for additional information about question, he showed me following query.
SELECT Roles, FirstName, LastName
FROM UserNames
He wanted to apply DISTINCT to only Roles and not across FirstName and LastName. When he finished I realize that it is not possible and there is logical error in thinking query like that. I helped him with what he needed however, after he left I realize that answer to his original question was “NO”.
Distinct can not be applied to only few columns it is always applied to whole column. In following exam DISTINCT is applied across Roles, FirstName and LastName.
SELECT DISTINCT Roles, FirstName, LastName
FROM UserNames
Same result as above query can be achieved by using GROUP BY as well.
SELECT Roles, FirstName, LastName
FROM UserNames
GROUP BY Roles, FirstName, LastName
Before I end discussion I would like to add that DISTINCT can be used with aggregated fun
Blog after blog I read it seems everybody is trying to “make money blogging“.
To “make money blogging” isn’t necessarily the easiest thing in the world, it takes time, effort and due diligence.
I’m sure we’d all love to be able to throw a blog up in a matter of seconds and get rich and say we know how to “make money blogging“.
The best way to “make money blogging“, though is to follow those who’ve succeeded, and if you haven’t noticed I’ve used the term “make money blogging”, quite a bit, and on purpose to prove a point.
Go do a search for “make money blogging” and see how many pages it takes to find my post, this is an experiment of sorts, when I started this experiment, I had some good competition from other bloggers, who I know make great money blogging. Steve Pavlina, Pro-Blogger, and Dosh Dosh were the top 3 links in google.

I'm reaching back into the archives again. Here is a crazy conversation that occurred Aug. 8, 2006 between my husband Phil Porter (comedian extraordinaire) and my goofy bosom chum, Amanda. Keep reading, as it just becomes one hilarious punchline after another. They are far too entertaining. They are, indeed, too sexy for IM.++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Sarah: I'm going to take a shower. Here's Phil if you need him. Phil: Um, I'm not sure I'd be comfortable chatting with Amanda's corpse. Amanda: Oh, it's okay. Just ignore my tongue hanging out of the side of my mouth and the foam coming from it. Phil: Wait, are you the living dead? Phil: Because I'm not going to let you eat my brain. Amanda: The post-death flatulence stage has already passed, now I'm just convulsing. Amanda: I don't eat smart brains. I prey on stupid people from MySpace. Why do you think I'm seeking out my old high school classmates? Phil: I didn't realize zombies were so picky
By: Eric Starr First, let me state that I am not implying that double bass playing is a "must" for all drum solo artists. I'm only saying that if you do want to use double bass drum effects, that today there are two basic directions to consider. Second, I'm limiting my discussion to acoustic drums, since I believe electronics is a separate category to discuss at at another time. Okay, let's discuss both acoustic bass drum options. For many years I used two bass drums and there are at least two distinct advantages with that option. To the audience, it has a distinctive visual appeal. You can use different pitches and/or different sized bass drums for unique tonal patterns. But, there are also some possible concerns about using two bass drums. They (perhaps) take up a larger area for your drum kit on stage. There is an extra bass drum to transport (which certainly may not bother everyone). The positioning of other components of the drum kit may be more difficult. Depending on your rea
In follow-up to the Podcast discussion Frank Peters, Dave Berkus and I had a couple of weeks ago (http://www.thefrankpetersshow.com/), a few entrepreneurs wanted to learn a little more about the various channels of raising equity and particularly the characteristics of each channel.Following is a 10,000 foot level, but focused discussion of the various equity sources:Friends & FamilyYour dad, uncle or a rich body - almost always non-strategic, almost always come with confused valuations and even more confuse structures that will be costly to clean-up later, and often the money raised gets to be wasted on experimentation. It is however, the easiest money to raise since they know you and trust you the most. Raising Friends and Family round generally does give the VC's and the Angles the warm and fuzzy that at least your relatives and friends trust you.Angels (individuals & groups)An individual angles or group of angles that pull together to invest - generally invest as indi

Scott wrote an interesting article with a title What Is “Real” Metal? As Scott says, there are always dudes commenting “how this band or that band is not ‘Real’ metal“. Scott is asking now “what is ‘real’ metal“?
It is difficult to say which music is not metal and which music is metal. According to Scott, some folks might say nu-metal and metal core are not real metal music. Some of my readers might think the same, while some might get furious for such a statement. All in all, the point is that it is hard to draw the line and say if certain music is not “real” metal. I am pretty much on the same page with Scott. There are very many genres but they are all metal music. I love Arch Enemy, Children of Bodom and Trivium. Those are all true metal bands for me and probably for you as well, but I enjoy also Apocalyptica, Wintersun, Luca Turilli and Rusty Eye. Are they metal bands for you?

Yesterday I visited the Annual Open Exhibition of the New English Art Club at the Mall Galleries which opened on 30th November and continues until 10th December.
The New English Art Club is a group of about 70 professional painters whose work is based principally upon observation of nature and the human figure.
I've probably mentioned in a previous post that this Christmas will be the first that our family will be in a house. We bought our house in March of this year and have enjoyed decorating it for the various holidays. However, Christmas is going to be the doozy, I can just feel it.I personally prefer classy ourdoor Christmas decor, if there is such a thing. White lights, thoughtfully placed, a beautiful wreath on the door, etc. I have high hopes for our yard this holiday season. However, Cracked Daddy is feeling a little Griswoldian this year. He has just informed me that not only does he want to hang lighting, but that a lighted Santa will be parking his sleigh on the top of our roof and candy canes will be lining the driveway. Okay.If he so much as mentions an inflatable yard ornament I think I might catch a case of the vapors. This really ain't going to fly with me, so I'm sure this weekend we will have a discussion about this. I'll let you know who wins after the weekend is o

The eight strategies (Ba Fa) were originally recorded in the Nei Jing Su Wen. It wasn’t until the Qing dynasty that Dr Cheng Zhong-Ling organized and categorized the eight basic strategies known as the ‘Eight Methods in Therapy’ (Yi Men Ba Fa) (Williams 1992, p28) and recorded them in the ‘Medical Revelations’ (Yi Xue Xin [...]
I am in the middle of a verse by verse study of the book of Revelation. This book, though I thought I understood most of it, still left me feeling a little confused about some things. Here I want to share what I have learned and hope you will join in the discussion.Revelations is a book of sequences. It is very chronological, both literally and prophetically. The first three chapters of the book of Revelation reveal John's visions of Jesus and the Church Age (the Church Age being from the time of the first Pentecost until the "Rapture" of the Church.) Chapter 4 and on reveals things to come in the future. Revelation 1:19 states it this way: "Write the things which you have seen, and the things which are, and the things which will take place after this."While reading the book of Revelation and studying it, I came to the realization that though the word "Rapture" does not occur in the English translations of the bible (though the Latin version "rapere" does occur in Latin translations)

Weekly (43%) – This is what I voted on (and also the most popular)! I feel that the more frequent my paycheck, the fewer days my money is on loan to my employer. It might drive my accountant crazy, but that’s a headache that falls under someone else’s responsibility! I can see that this is a problem for employees that are getting checks as their paycheck, but those people should really look into getting direct deposit through their bank. Nice, easy and most frequent gets my vote!
Bi-weekly (35%) – The standard of North American companies and almost just as popular as the weekly paychecks! I wonder how many people picked this option just because it is what they are used to (in which case they should have chose “I don’t care&rdqu
