If you've been following my summer television experiment you probably already know that I dropped my DIRECTV service a few months ago in favor of a high-definition, antenna only solution. Knowing this you might be as shocked as I was when I turned on my bedroom television and saw a broadcast coming over my satellite.
My first inclination was of course to panic thinking that DIRECTV never really d
DirecTV is once again promoting their top exclusive package, the NFL Sunday Ticket. My mom and dad recently got DIRECTV at their summer cottage, a place notorious for terrible television reception even with a decent antenna. But now instead of terrible television reception they have over 200 channels or pure digital television. Quite a change from what they had before.
They also have a DIRECTV digital video recorder (DVR) on one of their televisions. Since my mom and dad have ca

Isn't it great when it's a good fight and it is perfumed by two game competitors who are decent enough to follow all the rules of the sport? Nonsense! By: David Johnson The Movie ChannelsDirecTV is proud to offer the most popular modern movie channels available through a satellite television provider today. DirecTV actually offers channel packages (or programming packages) that include some or all of these popular channels. Some of the channels included (that you most likely have heard of and or already want to see in your home) are Starz, HBO, Cinemax, and Sho Time. With DirecTV you will most likely find that the movie channels are more affordable than anywhere else. If you feel the need, take a look at the other satellite TV providers that are available. It is possible that you may find a satellite TV provider that has a more affordable deal on one aspect of the whole set up. However, keep in mind that the whole set up will be less expensive with DirecTV and with DirecTV's 24 hour a day, 7 days a week customer service hot line and website you just can't go wrong. This of course is another brief summary with a few more details abo
By: David Johnson When satellite TV first appeared, it did in the form of a huge satellite dish that you could see in the person's yard who was receiving it. The Dish alone wasn't cheap and could easily run into the thousands of dollars after it was installed. Then there was an expensive and complex receiver that the person receiving the service had to also purchase and install in their home and it required some knowledge of complex electronics equipment to operate.Things began to change dramatically when DirecTV was launched in nineteen-ninety-four and they haven't stopped improving to this very day. Now DirecTV gives each and every one of its new TV viewing family members a free satellite TV system to receive their programming with. It's yours to keep and it's a top of the line Hughes system that comes with an extended warranty so its quite a deal and Hughes satellite systems and components carry a long standing reputation for quality and reliability that is recognized industry
By: David Johnson For many television viewing young parents, the content in modern television shows has become a real concern. It has become increasingly difficult to keep your children safe from the gratuitous sex and gratuitous violence that seem to actually overwhelm the television air waves of today. For many young parents, this has become one of the biggest concerns and actually has a lot to do with the parents over all decisions on what channels will be appropriate for their children to watch and when. The only problem is, most parents can not stand around and keep their eye over their children's shoulders all day trying to protect them from content. This is where DirecTV comes in to save the day. DirecTV offers what is considered by many to be the best parental controls available for satellite TV anywhere today. DirecTV takes the welfare of young families and their young children very seriously and took that same welfare into consideration when developing their parental control
By: David Johnson If you have not heard much about the TiVo and DVR units offered from DirecTV than it would be a good time to look in to it. If you are still using a VCR to record all of your favorite television shows, then chances are that you have gotten frustrated with VCR timer malfunctions and or recording at the wrong speed, some time recently. These two problems are two of the most common problems people have with their VCR units. This of course stands on top of the basic problem of the VHS tapes cumbersome size. If you yourself do not have bookshelves filled with ugly VHS tapes in your home than chances are that you know a few people who do. If you do not than you probably have boxes of them in your garage. With the TiVo and DVR units offered from DirecTV, you will never have to worry about any of these problems again. In fact, you can just toss your old and obsolete VCR and get ready for trouble free television recording and re-watching bliss! You probably have heard of the d
By: David Johnson When it comes to satellite television providers it seems like the word satellite and expensive go hand in hand. Pretty much all the satellite television providers out there are very over priced and since every provider is they can get away with it with out losing much business to competitors because their competitors are just as costly. Not only are they costly but they also require that you purchase the needed equipment also! Having two really big expenses make it hard to obtain satellite television in the first place. Yet, if you save up and get it then it is still very costly to pay the monthly payments to maintain service with the provider. When will the expenses end! I am telling you that they will end today! With DirecTV the other satellite television providers better watch out because DirecTV is a satellite provider that can take all their business away. How can DirecTV do this? Well, DirecTV is a very cost effective satellite provider and they have really good
By: David Johnson Alright, you have these satellite television companies that you pay an arm and a leg for their services and they just do not provide the best quality satellite television that there is out there. You would think that for the cost of what you are paying that you would actually get some decent satellite television. Sadly that is not the case with a majority of the satellite television providers today. Today they have all these special deals and give-a-ways to lure you into obtaining service through them. Then you are good for a month or so, however long the "special promotional" deal lasts and then wham one day you get a bill in the mail for twice what you were paying. Then not to mention the service you are getting is not the best either. Half the time you can not access some of your favorite channels because your provider is having technical difficulties or its just a little bit too windy outside so your television is just a little bit too static filled to enjoy. So,
By: David Johnson If you are upgrading from cable to satellite do not just settle for the first satellite television provider you run across but do it with being able to get the best service around for the lowest price around. Even if you are stuck with satellite television from a crummy provider it is never to late to change to a better one. No one should be stuck with a satellite television provider that is way too costly and has poor service when there is a wonderful satellite television provider like DirecTV. DirecTV is the perfect satellite television provider for every one because DirecTV lets you chose how you want your satellite service to be set up and each package that you can chose from has a great low price tagged on it and great customer service to back it up.Unlike other satellite television providers, DirecTV knows that satellite television might be a new thing but it is not that new to where it should still be crazily expensive. DirecTV provides you with a number of sat
By: David Johnson If you are not familiar with the Digital Video Recorder or TiVo unit then you have the only good excuse for not already owning them! First of all, the TiVo and Digital Video Recorder (referred to as the DVR) come free with the package of free satellite equipment that are installed with DirecTVs free professional installation. So before we get into the awesome features of TiVo and the DVR you already know that you wont be spending anything extra to get these! The TiVo and DVR units work together so that you can view television in a whole new way. One amazing feature of the combination is the ability to pause and rewind live television. It may sound impossible, although once you understand how it is done it makes perfect sense. The DVR and TiVo units, you get from DirecTV, actually save all of the shows and programs, that play on your channels, temporarily on the DVR as the shows and programs are being aired. This way, in a sense, you are pausing or rewinding a re

By: David Johnson Among all the satellite television providers there is only one that is truly the best. What do we base "best" on? Well, to be the "best" satellite television provider the company must first have a really high quality service of their satellite television meaning there must be super clear images, no hissing sounds and no long term loss of service due to the provider or wind and rain. Secondly, the company must have reasonable, no, really low prices. Third, the company must provide a good selection of services ranging from the minimal amount of service to the maximum amount of service. Finally, the company must have very high quality of customer service. So far there is only one company that has passed the bar and earned the title of the "best" satellite television provider and that company is DirecTV.DirecTV has every qualification to be the best and they are really very good at holding up to the title. DirecTV works hard to provide you with every satellite necessity y
By: David Johnson In the satellite television world you have your good companies and you have your bad companies. The hard part its telling them apart for they all seem to look the same and provide the same things for the same high prices. So your process of elimination seems to be one of a trail and error one. Try each satellite television company and when it does something I do not like or does not have what I want I will just simply switch to another. Now this method of searching for satellite television perfection might work for you but it a stressful and very hassle filled process. To not have to resort to such a process simply find the company that wears the service they provide on their sleeve. The only company that you will find that does such a thing is DirecTV. DirecTV is a high quality satellite television provider that is there for you but you would not think so because of their super low prices.DirecTV provides every avenue of satellite television that you can think of. I'm feeling very overwhelmed right now. My new boss just called to find out when I'm coming back to work. I was stoned, so I told him the truth. I hope I didn't sound too much like a bitch. I just told him like it is. I'm still not ready yet. They overwhelmed me. If that is what they wanted to accomplish, they succeeded, but I'm not going to go without a fight. I regret my decision to not file a lawsuit against them. I feel like they were punishing/retaliating against me for filing the complaint with the EEOC. I'm seriously considering contacting the EEOC again. I wish I had recorded the conversation.
By: David Johnson Most people look forward to seeing their favorite show once a week (or sometimes multiple favorites through out the week, maybe even one or two shows a night) but seldom have a work schedule that allows them to be home and watch the show when it actually airs. For many, trying rush home to catch the last twenty minutes of their favorite show each week is more than uncomfortable. That is why the Video Cassette Recorder became so popular. With the VCR you could set a timer that would record a show for you at a certain time with out you even being there to turn it on or off. What a novel idea! The only problem is, for the VCR's timer recorder to actually be as great as it sounds it would have to work consistently. Unfortunately, most people have found that the Video Cassette Recorders auto record timers do not work very consistently at all. Because of this, many many people have missed out on their favorite shows week after week. Another problem with the VCR is the spee

By: David Johnson If you haven't yet heard of Sirius satellite radio, it is the latest technology in radio broadcasting and it is completely changing the way that we listen to radio. Rather than the radio signal being sent directly from the broadcasting station to the listeners, the signal is sent to a satellite positioned in stationary orbit in space above the earth and the signal can then be sent to far more people this way. It is paid for radio programming, so you get no commercials on it and also this means that there are no sponsors that the broadcasters have to appease. There is also no government censorship either, so the talk radio programming can be very provocative. There is a channel on Sirius satellite radio that is entirely devoted to every genre of music that you can imagine and because it is broadcast digitally from a satellite, everything comes in crystal clear. Howard Stern can only be heard on Sirius satellite now and he has finally parted paths with the censors that
By: David Johnson Are you still watching cable television? Are you still using the old fashioned and now totally obsolete Video Cassette Recorder (or VCR)? Are you still limited to under 50 actual channels with even less watch-able channels on your television? If so it may be time for you to consider joining the satellite television revolution. For many years satellite television seemed unattainable because of high monthly rates and high priced hardware and satellite dishes. It seemed, that back then, the only people that could actually afford to have a satellite television entertainment set up in their home were the wealthy people of our society. Well that has all changed now with the low prices and general affordability of satellite television offered by one of the leading satellite TV providers known as DirecTV. DirecTV offers incredible deals on satellite television channel packages that include free hardware and free installation with free set up of all the equipment. As and incre

In fact, many of DirecTV's programming packages (packages of channels), not only come in a variety of affordable and low cost options, but actually have comparable prices to what you are paying now with cable. In fact, many of the DirecTV programming packages are actually geared to fit a specific style of entertainment. This way, each DirecTV customer can pick out a package that suits
By: David Johnson On thing that DirecTV and Dish Network both have in common is that they are both the leading providers of satellite TV service today with numbers of subscribers numbering well over ten million each. Because of this, they are both able to provide the most in the way of promotional items to the new members who join their respective viewing families. The cost of a satellite TV system has fallen dramatically in recent years and also they both purchase them in very large numbers and because of these two factors they are both able to give each new subscriber a free satellite system including your choice of receivers when they join up, so you dont need to go out pricing satellite TV systems if you are considering the switch to satellite TV service for your home TV programming. They both use name brand, top of the line systems and components with a full range of features and options in them and for your sports viewing DirecTV even has the option of having DVR Powered by TiVo

By: David Johnson If you are a young parent, single parent, or part of a household where two parents have full time jobs, than you probably have worries about your children being subjected to gratuitous sex and or violence on television at your home. It is a growing concern of many parents who can not always be around their children when they watch television , that they will run in to an unscrupulous programmers channel while surfing from channel to channel. Even though a channel can be totally innocent and wholesome, it's neighbor on the dial may be all but insidious. It would truly be appropriate to say that you never know what could be lurking around the corner. In general, television airwaves are plagued with unnecessary content that caters to high school kids (who most the time are not supposed to be watching it but watch it anyway) and young adults. One provider give you great channel selections but has high rates and the other has a great channel selection too but has rates higher than the other one yet if you join up with them they will give you a free camera ooooohhhh! Then the other satellite provider decides to say hey with them you might get a free camera but with us you will get a free traveling DVD player ooooohhhh! So then you have to pick between the camera or the DVD player when you remember wait, I was not looking for a camera or a fancy DVD player I just wanted great reliable satellite television for a decent rate. Well, DirecTV is a satellite television provider that will not hook you in with gimmicks and little bonuses. DirecTV does not have to because they are simply so good at providing exactly what you want from a satellite television provider that just being DirecTV is enough. DirecTV is a satellite pro
By: David Johnson If you are still playing around with a cable set up and using an old, and now obsolete, VCR to (hopefully) record your favorite shows, now is a better time than any to take a look at your other options. It's true that for many years satellite television has been far too expensive for the average person to afford. Even the monthly payments of satellite television used to dwarf the monthly payments of most cable providers. In addition to that, the satellite hardware was also extremely expensive. Since you were required to buy your own hardware, like the satellite dish and receiver, the whole process of joining satellite television could end up costing a fortune. Add in the typical start up fees and forget it! Well this has all changed much for the better. With modern technological advances as well as great companies, like DirecTV, you don't have to sell your home to have a satellite home theatre set up! DirecTV boasts some of the lowest satellite television rates in g
Full disclosure, I have DirecTV (DTV) but do not own the stock.
If you want you HDTV, your best choice is DirecTV. With Cable providers like Comcast (CMCSA), Time Warner Cable (TWC) and Verizon (VZ) all offering about 20-30 HD channels, they have a long way to go to reach the 55 current channels and 100 total channels DirecTV plans on offering by year end.
Rural America is most affected by this. Currently cable operators do not deliver HDTV to this part of the population which is roughly...

It's been a long time comin', but it looks like DirecTV's bonafide video-on-demand service is nearly ready for primetime. Judging by a descriptive thread over at DBSTalk, the service -- dubbed DirecTV on Demand -- has been rolled out in beta form to at least some users, so here's a quick look at what you can expect. First off, DoD will reportedly "be available for internet connected HR20's that are running on a compatible version of software," and requires that a user request a program via the 'net or through their HR20, after which the DVR "downloads that content via the internet, and stores the downloaded content just like any other recorded program." Feel free to hit the read link for all the nitty-gritty details, but for those into abridged versions, click on through for a few key points...[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]Continue reading First look at DirecTV on Demand Read | Permalink | Email this | CommentsOffic

DirecTV will team up with Current to provide CURRENT's innovative BPL (Broadband Over Powerline) high-speed Internet service and VoIP services to it's customers. The summer season is beginning for many of my favorite television shows and I thought I would give a tip to the Media Center owners out there. Anyone out there who has used a set top box with an IR blaster knows how undependable they are. I don’t know how many times I have missed a show because my Media Center changed to the wrong channel or didn’t change at all. After many trial and error attempts I have finally found a solution that works reliably.
To do this you will need:
A Media Center or desktop PC with a TV Tuner card.
DirecTV receiver with a USB port or serial port. I used a DirecTV D11 receiver.
Windows Media Center 2005
Microsoft Media Center receiver and remote
Open USB or serial port
1 or 2 IOGEAR GUC232A USB to serial adapter. 2 if you motherboard has no serial ports.
9-pin Serial null-modem cable
FireSTB
Now for the setup:
Before doing anything connect your Media Center receiver to your Media Center and go through the configuration wizard for satellite
Competition in the broadband industry means faster speeds and lower costs for consumersAccording to several announcements, Cable Internet access is getting the boost it needs. Most recently, Comcast announced that a new cable modem technology was in the works and would give customers speeds of up to 150 megabits per second (Mbps). Analysts say that Comcast's cable modem development is due largely to competition from fiber to the premises (FTTP) technologies such as Verizon's Fiber Optics Service (FiOS).This week DirecTV made the announcement that it too will give cable technology a run for its money. The satellite television provider told reporters that it plans to provide broadband Internet access by delivering the service through power lines. Chief executive officer of DirecTV Chase Carey says that DirecTV is working with companies that specialize in delivering broadband access through a city's power grid."We're not the only ones talking to them. I LOVE it when a company does what it takes to please the customer, especially when the customer is me!
Our Directv signal has been pixelating for the past couple weeks at odd times. We hate dealing with Customer Service departments so we waited for it to fix itself. Instead, it got worse.
Make a long story longer, we called tonight and after 50 billion troubleshooting “twister-like” exercises with cables and reset buttons, they agreed our box was the problem. They are sending us a brand new TIVO box in the next 2-3 days.
This is the kind of solution every customer should get. In this age of required contracts and automated help desks, a human answer is like a kiss on the lips!
Soon, we’ll be enjoying lustruous colors and 400 channels of nothing on again. Whew, I can hardly wait!
For the record, Directv gets an endorsement from us. Unless the box doesn’t work . . . then this blog will be continued!

As part of the offer, iN Demand also said it would carry The Baseball Channel when it launches in 2009 to at least the same number of subscribers who will get the channel on DirecTV."As the current home for 'Extra Innings' for more than 200,000 cable subscribers, we have extended ourselves to do our best to be able to continue to provide this package to baseball fans and our customers," iN Demand president Robert Jacobson said. "This offer meets all the conditions set forth by MLB last week. "Interesting.
