Dieters Who Exercise May Be Overeating
Some people, when they increase their physical activity, also step up their eating. This means that they still lose weight from exercising, but not as much as they might have. A study of more than 300 postmenopausal women found that those who exercised 190 minutes a week lost about 3 pounds when they should have dropped about 6 pounds. Some of these women admitted they were eating more.

Top Ten Tips For Lazy Dieters
By Anu PriyaThere are people everywhere (you may be one of them) who know that they need to and want to lose weight. But have the "yeah, I'll probably start tomorrow' syndrome. On top of that, let's face it; many people are simply too lazy to change their lifestyles, so here are ten free diet tips to kick-start your diet. This free diet guide would show you the right direction.Tip no. 1: Set SMART goals. Goals give dieters something to aim for and are a good source of inspiration. Fitness experts worldwide would agree that all goals you set should adhere to the following acronym:S (simple): All goals should be easy to remember. Saying "I want to lose 20lbs of fat, gain 10lbs of muscle, speed up my metabolism and lower my cholesterol in 6 weeks unless I get promoted in which case I want to lose 10lbs of body weight in 8 weeks' may well be ambitious and time-considerate, but you are hardly going to remember it in 6 weeks when you need to figure out how much you have lost.M (M

My complete Thanksgiving meal (dieters beware)
I'm printing out all my recipes and making the final runs to the supermarket, cheese shop, and health food store. And yes, I'm off the diet bandwagon, so if you're trying to lose weight and not be tempted, you may want to skip this post even though I'm using several Weight Watchers recipes. I'm going to make Alton Brown's Honey Brined Smoked Turkey and two Weight Watchers dishes - Cranberry-Cherry Compote and Weight Watchers Sausage, Apple and Cornbread Stuffing. I'm also making a Cranberry Cocktail Sauce to go with the tail-on shrimp appetizers. (I love shrimp for the taste and because you can eat a lot even if you're on a diet.) Cranberries were being sold BOGO (buy one, get one) this year at my supermarket, so I needed a recipe to use up the other bag. The November 2007 of Bon Appetit magazine was particularly inspirational. I will be making their recipes for Green Onion Gravy (gluten free since it uses cornstarch!), Brussels Sprout Hash with Caramelized Shallots, and Pum

5 ways for dieters to deal with holiday feasts
(For more Five Things/Ways advice articles, click here.) Holidays are a fact of life - and tough for those trying to lose weight and stay on their diets. You're going to be tempted by Thanksgiving dinners, Christmas brunches, and other celebration feasts. So what's a dieter to do this time of year? 1. Give in to the dark side. Sometimes it's o.k. to go off your diet plan. In fact, studies show that dieters who take a break are more successful in losing weight and maintaining the weight loss over time. But you must have a plan! It's one thing to feast on Thanksgiving. It's another to keep making excuses for when you'll go back on your diet. I don't do this. Instead, I keep telling myself, "I'll get back on my diet tomorrow." OR "I'll start working out again after company leaves." No excuses! Write down on your calendar (the one on the refrigerator is a good place) when you'll get back on your diet. If you know it's impossible until the out of town guests leave on Sunday, th

5 Things Dieters Can Do with Halloween Candy (Beside Eating It)
(For more Five Things/Ways advice articles, click here.) The official start of the holiday eating season - Halloween - arrives this week. It's an especially trying time for those trying to lose weight and eat healthy. Even if you're skinny, you don't need that extra sugar and corn syrup - it's just not good for your health! I'm beginning to believe friends who tell me too many treats this time of year affects their immune systems and causes arthritis flareups, painful joints, headaches, and mood swings. Here are some ideas on what to do with all that Halloween candy before it ends up on your hips. 1. Throw it out. While I have a problem wasting good food, I have no qualms about tossing the cheap candy my kids get trick or treating. Save enough favorites for the kids so they don't get upset that mean ol' you is taking away their hard earn stash. Or be sneaky and throw a few handfuls away every day. The kids won't notice that their candy pile is getting smaller. Remember to h

5 Things Dieters Need in Their Kitchens
(For more Five Things/Ways advice articles, click here.) Some of these may seem obvious if you like to cook. Sadly, many people don't and they rely on instant food or take out (probably why they gained all that weight!) Relearning how to eat and cook is part of successful weight loss. So before you start your diet, make sure you have these items on hand in your kitchen: 1. Measuring spoons - Get several sets to place around your kitchen. I have a traditional round set in a drawer by the refrigerator and the set of 6 RSVP Spice Measuring Spoons by the stove. The skinny retangular shape of these spoons makes it easy to measure spices right out of the bottle. I also use the large tablespoon one to measure out my Cream of Wheat each morning. It's the only measuring spoon I have that fits right into the hole in the box. Amazon carries a huge selection of measuring spoons. If I had to buy new ones, I'd get the Nigella Lawson Measuring Spoons. Her six-piece set features a 1 dsp., which

Dieters, welcome to the Carnival of the Recipes!
Welcome to the Carnival of Recipes! As this week's host I asked for recipes for those trying to lose weight and stay motivated on their weight loss journey. I got that...and more (ah hem, read the instructions people.) Thanks to everyone who participated! Recipes for dieters (with Weight Watchers POINTS): Chef Tom presents Pork Tenderloin with Grilled Peach-Ginger Chutney posted at Chef Tom Cooks - Recipe Blog. Tom's recipe is 10 Weight Watchers POINTS per serving, so save it for a splurge. To lower it, substitute chicken for the pork. Bet the chutney would be good on fish, too. Karen Weideman presents Low Fat Strawberry Crunch Recipe posted at Thrifty Mommy. Oh my goodness, only 1 Weight Watcers POINT per serving! Kathee presents Savory Garlic Shrimp posted at Famous Recipes. Only 4 Weight Watchers POINTS per serving. Bill presents Lentil Salad posted at Famous Recipes. Bill doesn't give fiber info so I'm guessing the recipe has about 3 Weight Watchers POINTS per serving. Pa

Cool stuff for dieters and brown baggers
Down two pounds on the first week of the Celebrity Fit Club plan! Dr. Ian K. Smith's  Extreme Fat Smash Diet requires strict adherence to the plan. This means preplanning and bringing your food with you. I've had a bit of a transporation problem since a few meals and snacks don't into a little insulated lunch bag. So I've been carrying my sodas, plastic containers, fruit, and big baggie of carrots and celery into a Pampered Chef insulated tote. It's really a tote for casserole dishes and I use it at potlucks and bringing brownies to meetings and get togthers. I love it. Since it's too big I decided I needed something else - a Zojirushi Mr. Bento Stainless-Steel lined Lunch Jar. It features a round jar with four food bowls for hot or cold lunch storage. It's insulated and the bowls are microwavable. Plus it comes with a convenient carrying bag in which you can slip a napkin and utensils. On Amazon, it was $43.67, which makes me eligible for a free one-year subscription to

Weight Loss Survey: Why Dieters Fail To Lose Weigh...
Weight Loss Survey: Why Dieters Fail To Lose Weight Current levels of overweight and obesity, together with weight-related disease, have made weight control a major health priority throughout America. Yet statistics indicate that average weight reduction on conventional diets adds up to a mere 5-8 pounds per year. So why do we find dieting so difficult? According to a new survey(1), the answer seems to be: because we make 3 crucial mistakes. We don't have a good enough incentive; we allow ourselves to go hungry; and we can't cope with "bad days". The weight loss survey conducted by annecollins.com asked dieters to select the three biggest problems they faced when dieting. The most common problems reported were: "Inadequate incentive to lose weight" (76%); "Hunger" (72%); and "Bad days" (70%). Although these results will come as no surprise to most dieters, they highlight the importance of motivation in the dieting process. We examine how these problems occur, and what steps can be t
