      Dictator
With the resignation announcement of Cuba's Comrade Commandante El Presidente Fidel Castro, as I have been predicting for months, the usual media reference to him is as 'dictator'.I guess that is because he is appointed leader by his party without being directly elected. But then again I guess if you use that definition then this guy was a dictator for the past year.Find blog posts, photos, events and more off-site about:Fidel, Castro, Cuba, Alberta,, Ed Stelmach, Stelmach, democratic deficit, One Party State,, , Alberta election,

Citroën pokes fun at genocidal dictator, apologizes to protect itself
The above advertisement for the Citroën C4 was withdrawn in Spain after complaints from some Chinese that it was insulting to the entire nation.   Somehow, I think that’s an exaggeration.   Sure, some folks in the Politburo might be annoyed. But there will be a lot of Chinese who think that Mao Tse-tung is fair game when it comes to advertising humour.   Americans are quite happy to dress up an actor as Lincoln and make a few jokes, and Elizabeth I appeared in Blackadder.   At least neither Abe Lincoln nor QEI was responsible for the deaths of 70 million of their own subjects, managing to butcher more than their enemies were able to.   While it’s true I might get annoyed at the same treatment being given to Confucius, surely a more uni

Dictator Mugabe Lectures Bush On Human Rights
President Robert Mugabe, who has driven his nation into utter economic ruin and bullied and tortured opponents, gave a fiery speech at the UN denouncing George Bush as a hypocrite. “His hands drip with innocent blood,” shouted the president of Zimbabwe, “of many nationalities. He kills in Iraq. He kills in Afghanistan. And he is supposed to be our master on human rights?” George Bush still doesn’t grasp how his failure to adhere to basic human rights and his boasting about violence do not lead people to regard him a a defender of individual rights. It is sad that America is being given a lecture on human rights by a notorious brute who has never been a supporter of such rights to fellow Zimbabweans.

He also denounced his and his family's personal businesses which are protected personally by Saakashvili and has a carte blanche. Today he was arrested for this denouncement.I even can't remember how many people died with their fault. "Mugabe is the worst kind of racist dictator"
Here's a nice quote for today (a bit old, but still): "Mugabe is the worst kind of racist dictator. Having targeted the whites for their apparent riches, Mugabe has enacted an awful Orwellian vision, with the once oppressed taking on the role of the oppressor and glorying in their totalitarian abilities. Like Idi Amin before him in Uganda, Mugabe has rallied a country against its former colonial master only to destroy it through a dictatorial fervour." This was said by Archbishop John Sentamu of York (originally from Uganda) in The Observer a while back. Sentamu was calling for stronger sanctions, similar to those waged against the apartheid regime in South Africa, to remove Zimbabwean dictator Robert Mugabe. Apparently the archbishop doesn't know that it isn't politically correct to call a black guy racist (even one as repugnant as mad Mugabe, you simply can't do that). Only certain white people can be racists, everyone knows that. But then, Sentamu is himself black, so that cha

Dictator Chavez controls the time (zone)
The madness of communist dictator Hugo Chavez knows no limits. The latest step in his insane master plan to engineer some sort of socialist utopia is to screw up the time zone for his soon to be utterly ruined country (presumably making "the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela" even more out of sync with the rest of the world): Venezuela in September will turn clocks back by 30 minutes as it switches time zones to boost the amount of natural light to residents, a government official said on Thursday. Next month Venezuelan clocks will be set at Greenwich Mean Time minus 4-1/2 hours, compared to the previous GMT minus four hours, Science and Technology Minister Hector Navarro told reporters at a news conference. He said the measure sought "a more fair distribution of the sunrise," which would particularly help poor children who wake up before dawn to go to school. "Very rigorous scientific studies have determined that ... the metabolic activity of living beings is synchronized with the sun

      ‘Dictator’ Inzamam cops blame
AN inquiry into Pakistan's shock first-round exit from the cricket World Cup has blamed the arrogant attitude of captain Inzamam-ul-Haq, accusing him of acting like a dictator. The three-member committee, which revealed its findings in Lahore today, added that lack of planning and poor discipline were also behind Pakistan's dismal performance in the Caribbean. "Inzamam's attitude was haughty and that of a dictator and more than one incident proved that," Ijaz Butt, head of the committee, said after a month-long inquiry that took statements from players, former players and officials. "Inzamam should have been removed from the captaincy. As a player he was world-class but his attitude was haughty during and before the tournament." Pakistan lost its opening match to the West Indies by 54 runs and then crashed out of the event with a humiliating three-wicket defeat at the hands of debutant Ireland. A day after their exit, coach Bob Woolmer was found dead in the t

      The Great Dictator

Sporty Boy . . . Your New Communist Dictator
Goofy Boy was very excited as we drove to the grocery store. He had $3 burning a hole in his pocket, and he was ready to spend. On the way I heard him ask "Who do you think you're lookin' at?". As he was the only one in the back seat I was a little concerned. "Who are you talking to?" "Oh, just George Washington. He keeps staring at me." Now Sporty Boy is incensed. "You can't talk about

      World's Worst Dictator
Recently my wife was reading an article in Parade about the world's worst dictators. (Yes, this is the second post over the past week prompted by Parade magazine. I'm also reading a 700 page book about artificial intelligence, ok? It's called being a Renaissance man. Look into it.)Like many people, I rely on Parade to provide me with some geopolitical perspective, not to mention hearty halftime meals for my Super Bowl party. (Actually, I rely on my wife for both of those things, but she in turn relies on Parade. And just because I couldn't tell you who played in the Super Bowl to save my life doesn't mean I don't need a hearty halftime meal, so get off my back.)Anyway, it turns out that the world's worst dictator is some dude named Omar al-Bashir. He runs a little country club and spa called Sudan. You may have heard something about it in between Anna Nicole Smith's breasts. Er, in between stories about Anna Nicole Smith. And her breasts. Her non-biodegradable breast
