      Tampa Bay Devil Rays
Has this country lost it's mind?  The religious right presented a petition to the powers that be in major league baseball demanding the word "Devil" be removed from the Tampa Bay Devil Rays' name. The people in the Rays' front office are being fined if they use the word "Devil".The MLB officials are scared of the Christian Right, so they caved.  Sickening. Why are this people so offended? Are their ears gonna fall off if they hear the word devil?

      Five Players--Tampa Bay Devil Rays
Five players from the Devil Rays. This is one of the teams I was really looking forward to writing about. In fact, I might even end up having a tough time choosing only five players. If it wasn't playing in perhaps the most difficult division in baseball, this team could be competing for the wild card right now. Either way, they WILL be in several years. Ambiguously Gay Devil Rays
The Tampa Bay Devil Rays have an on-going animated feature which plays on the video board at Tropicana Field on Sundays. A brief synopsis tells us of an "Evil Umperor" -- an obvious shot at the Yankees organization -- who is a scorned umpire now hell-bent on destroying America's pastime by any means necessary: Lying, cheating, stealing. (Oh Yes. More and more obvious that it's based on the Yankees). But there to save the day is a mighty group dubbed the "Defenders of the Game."Animated likenesses of Rays players Scott Kazmir, Rocco Baldelli and Carl Crawford, Manager Joe Maddon and Senior Advisor Don Zimmer make up the cast of animated heroes. All provided voice-overs for their characters.Wow. What can I say? Corny comes to mind. So does "please rip my spine out through my belly button." If you really want to save the game...don't put crap out like animated baseball super hero sagas. Just sayin.' Related:Rays roll out unique, in-stadium animated series [Press Release]

      Yankees Disgrace Devil Rays, 21-4
When I got home from work tonight and checked the internet scoreboard to see how the Yankees did against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, I thought there was a typo. But there was no typo! The Yankees crushed the Devil Rays, 21-4!AP Sports Writer Rick Freeman wrote: "Ah, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Just what a struggling club full of stars needs to get back into contention for a playoff berth."New York had 25 hits, reaching 20 in consecutive games for the first time in more than 100 years in a 21-4 rout of the Devil Rays on Sunday."The team racked up 6 home runs and 20 RBIs in this game. Hideki Matsui and Robinson Cano each scored three runs. A matter of fact, the only players who didn't score were the pitchers.Starting Pitcher Andy Pettitte had 8 strikeouts despite giving up 3 runs. He also gave up 8 hits. Though not his greatest outing, the team had his back and Pettitte did what he could. The Yankees (51-46), who are 8-2 in the last 10 games, are now only 7.5 games behind the Boston Red Sox

Duncan Helps Yankees Clobber Devil Rays 21-4
Don't say I didn't warn you! The New York Yankees who many gave up for dead and buried in June, are partying like it's 1978. The team that was a game below .500 and ten games behind the Boston Red Sox at the All-Star break is now sitting at 51-46 and 7.5 behind Boston and going into Sunday night six games behind Cleveland for the Wild Card slot. Sunday afternoon's hero was the new kid on the block Shelley Duncan who had two home runs as the Yankees simply shellacked the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 21-4. Duncan the son of former MLB catcher and current ST Louis Cardinals pitching coach Dave Duncan, is a recent call up from the the Yankees Triple A team in Scranton-Wilkes Barre. New York starter Andy Petite got the win evening his season record at 6-6. New York got 25 hits the second game in a row they had at least 20, as they walloped the Devil Rays in the second game of Saturday's twin-bill 17-5. The Yankees took 3-4 from Tampa Bay and have gone 9-3 since coming back from the break.© Co

Devil Rays Decide Dukes A Hazard
The Tampa Bay Devil Rays placed Elijah Dukes on the temporary inactive list Friday, hoping the time off will give the talented but controversial some time to get his act together. The rookie center fielder who is 22 has been known to exhibit a volatile temper throughout his minor league career. This season Dukes found the glare of the television cameras after his estranged wife let it be known that she had put out a restraining order on him after he allegedly threatened her. A statement by Tampa Bay Vice President Andrew Friedman said that the move was to allow the player to get his personal life in order. (C) Copyright thesackattack.com 2007

Quick Hits: O's Sweep the Devil Rays: Pictures, Video, the Rundown...
Devil Rays and Orioles -May 10th Last night at the Yard was wild, real wild. I had not planned on going to the game last night, but I unexpectedly found myself at BWI (Baltimore-Washington Airport) last night dropping off a friend & decided to stroll to Camden Yards last night. After mulling around the Yard, I figured since Tampa Bay was playing, I was just going to get a cheap seat and just enjoy the game. Armed with my trusty SLR camera, I figured I’d take a few shots, hang out, talk to some friends and then leave. Before I even got to the vicinity of the Yard, I bought a ticket from a scalper off Howard St. I paid $20 for the ticket (regularly $40), but I would not be disappointed. The game had pretty much started, so he was trying to unload a single ticket… The seat ended up to be 5 rows from the field and the section right of the Orioles dugout! That being said, I am never that lucky and I knew last night would be a good night. Let’s move onto the g

The Game Yesterday: O's Beat the Devil Rays 8-3, Condensed Video, the Rundown and More Thoughts on Dempsey...
070508 TB @ BAL condensedUploaded by robiroboterLast night, the Orioles got back on track and beat the Tampa Bay Devil Rays to 8-3 last night. Plucked out of long relief, and working as a starter now, Jeremy Guthrie allowed one run in six innings of excellent baseball. He’s auditioning for a spot in the rotation, but he’s looked real good in the starting role this season. The Orioles tagged Jae Seo for 5 runs, as the Oriole took advantage of the lowly Devil Rays. Nick ‘the Stick’ Markakis homered and drove in two runs, as did Melvin Mora. Miguel Tejada, Aubrey Huff, Jay Payton and Jay Gibbons also drove in a run. In fact, Jay Gibbons, who had been struggling went 3 for 4 and homered in the 8th inning. Chad Bradford came in the game in the 7th inning, but got hit hard, giving up 2 runs. Danys Baez got the hold, and Chris Ray also got in some work during the 9th inning.** Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun has more on the game last night. Jay Gibbons is not

Devil Rays closer job still open
Devil Rays Manager Joe Maddon indicated the team may determine by Tuesday whether right-hander Edwin Jackson or lefty J.P. Howell will fill the final rotation spot, the Rays won't name a specific closer before Opening Day. "The answer is no," Maddon said Sunday when asked if the ninth-inning job would be clarified this week. "As we get to that moment, I'm going to do what we did last year, pretty much - kind of mix and match in the beginning." That means any number of relievers could be in line for whatever save opportunities arise early in the season. Dan Miceli, Brian Stokes, Shawn Camp, Al Reyes, Seth McClung - you name a pitcher and he might have a shot if he's on the roster. Source: The Tampa Tribune

But Will Devil Rays Fans Even Realize They're Dead?
Got a relative who is getting close to taking the dirt nap and you're not sure what to do with their remains once they kack? Why not give them the ultimate humiliation send-off by putting them in a special baseball-themed urn. Then you can set it on top of the boob tube so they can still hear the game while you guzzle PBR and shovel corn chips down your pie hole? It'll be just like they never

Can the Rays Escape Last Place? Tampa Bay Devil Rays 2007 Season Preview
In the world of baseball, every spring before the season gives hope for a new start and perspective and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays are proof of that. Every year since their inception, the Devil Rays have managed to be a second division team and end up in American League East basement. However, in light of their finish in 2006 and the past, with their young talent, they have hope for future. Therefore, the question remains, when does it happen? In the nine year history of the team, the team has only 70 games once. Will 2007 usher a change? That yet remains to be seen, but with the improvements the Baltimore Orioles made, a strong Blue Jays team, and the big-market, super-star laden New Yankees and Boston Red Sox, last place for the Rays may be all bit pre-determined.However, the Rays boast a plethora of young talent that rivals any with up-and-comers Rocco Baldelli, Jorge Cantu, Carl Crawford, Delmon Young, B.J. Upton and Japanese import Akinori Iwamura. That being said, for the most part,
