So I’ve had enough of the design contests for now and of the 4 contests I entered I averaged 2 stars, which is pants. I think this boils down to the lack of time and not being able to give enough polish and detail to each contest. Anyway, I won’t give up and will keep [...]

According to the 99 Designs blog and their No-Spec [...]

Samsung and Intel PC Design Contest 2007 held in Korea, judges were looking for design concepts that moved away from your typical stereotype PC. They received entries from well-known designers in various industries, including fashion, architecture, automobile and the Web. Out of 644 entries, 6 designs won awards. The grand-prize winner in the "revolutionary" category is the Egg PC. The machine includes three 'egg-shape' Bluetooth-ready marble knobs designed for multimedia applications which are media player, disc drive and digital camera. The marbles rest atop a tray and connect wirelessly to the main PC.Turning Lamp, which won in the "futuristic" category, starts up with a simple pull of a cord as if one were turning on a lamp. I have a confession to make right here and now. I'm addicted to American Idol. There, I said it. I never watched this program before, ever. About 4-5 weeks ago, my husband and I were surfing the channels (I can't remember who had control of the remote, but I can say "stop right there", right?) But, I digress. At first we thought "this is way too bubble gum". We're New Yorkers, we're beyond this! But, we quickly got into it. It's appointment tv for us. We talk about it, judge the contestants, judge the judges, love/hate Simon, have a great time with it. I KNOW who's going, or who should leave, after last night's performances! It WON'T be Sanjaya (he was perfect for that song last night.) And, we'll find out TONIGHT! (Melinda Doolittle, you really needed to move much more during that song, as I suggested to the tv!) Do we call in? No, THAT'S where we draw the line. ;-)So, what does American Idol have to do with kitchens, kitchen design, kitchen r

Colin Smith, founder of PhotoshopCAFE.com, one of the best known web sites dedicated to Photoshop, has announced the site’s seventh annual design contest, which, as with previous iterations, has a theme specifically related to Photoshop itself. Last year, for example, the challenge was to design the front of a cereal box, which resulted in such winning entries as Linked Layers: Fortified With Styles; Crusty Tools; and HistoGrams: Begin Your Day With Balance.
This year’s theme is a billboard dedicated to Photoshop, set in the past or in the future. In Colin’s words, “Past and Future means that it can be yesterday or tomorrow, but leaves it open to cool period pieces, and crafty wording and usage of imagery.” The prizes raise up to 12000$. Entries must be posted before March 1, 2007.
More information is available on the PhotoshopCAFE.com site.
