All-new Mazda Demio sales take off in JapanMazda Motor Corporation has announced that total orders in Japan for the all-new Demio (known overseas as the all-new Mazda2) reached 15,000 units during the first month of sales since its domestic launch on July 5, 2007. This result is triple the monthly target sales volume, demonstrating a positive reception by Japanese consumers, thanks to the Demio’s stylish exterior, highly competitive cost of ownership and top class fuel efficiency. To date, approximately 60 percent of the orders are for the 1.3-liter 13C core grade together with the 13C-V grade, which achieves class leading 10-15 mode fuel economy of 23 km/L. Additionally, orders for the SPORT grade are more than double initial expectations. The all-new Demio is the first car produced by Mazda to feature a continuously variable transmission (CVT), and models equipped with the CVT account for over half of the orders.Sunlight Silver Metallic, Metropolitan Grey Mica and Icy Blue Metallic h

Mazda Goes Miller Cycle With Demio for Japan
Watch out, diesel. Mazda says it's developed a Miller-cycle engine for the new Demio (Mazda2) in Japan that gets around 54 miles per gallon. The new JDM gas sipper goes on sale in July, sporting a 20 percent improvement in mileage over the current model, in combination with a continuously variable transmission. So what's this Miller cycle we speak of? Let's ask Wikipedia: "In the Miller cycle, the intake valve is left open longer than it would be in an Otto cycle engine. In effect, the compression stroke is two discrete cycles: the initial portion when the intake valve is open and final portion when the intake valve is closed. This two-stage intake stroke creates the so called "fifth" cycle that the Miller cycle introduces. As the piston initially moves upwards in what is traditionally the compression stroke, the charge is partially expelled back out the still-open intake valve."That's lovely. Problem is, the engines trade power for efficiency, which is usually compensated with a

      Geneva: 2008 Mazda2 (Demio)
Mazda will use next month's Geneva Motor Show to officially debut its new compact car. The "Zoom-Zoom' company is moving from strength to strength with the reinvention of its image that started with the introduction of the Mazda6 back in 2002 and continues with its latest addition, the second-generation Mazda2. Gone is the old boxy shape and in comes a stylish new hatch with much larger headlights and a smaller five-sided Mazda grille. In a surprise move, the dimensions of the new car have actually shrunk compared with its predecessor. The new Mazda2 is 4cm shorter at 3.88m and sits 5.5cm lower with a height of 1.475m. Fortunately, the car has either increased in size or remained the same where it counts. The wheelbase is unchanged at 2.49m and width has increased 1.5cm to 1.695m, meaning more interior room all "round.Inside, the car gets a large storage box between the front seats and fold-down seats in the back, which allow up to 469L of storage when down.
