Very interesting read from the psychological perspective. Sometimes politics has the uncanny effect of mirroring the national psyche even when nobody intended to do that. This is perfectly illustrated by the rousing effect that Gov. Sarah Palin had on the Republican convention in Minneapolis this week. On the surface, she outdoes former Vice President Dan Quayle as an unlikely choice, given her ne

Hindu spirituality writer Deepak Chopra understands why his buddy Mike Myers’ film, “The Love Guru” tanked. ‘The Love Guru’ didn’t work well because Mike Myers addresses a teenage audience, and he was trying to mix it up with metaphysics. Humor mixed with spirituality can work, if it’s done well. But frankly speaking, this was [...]

The Third Jesus: The Christ We Cannot Ignore, Harmony Books). Chopra cuestiona la doctrina cristiana a la ve

He gets off to a good start, at any rate. In his most recent contribution to the "On Faith" page of the Washington Post (free registration required), Deepak Chopra says that "in almost every respect the hunt for the real Jesus is misguided." Especially as it concerns the search for the "historical Jesus," which Dr. Chopra rightly characterizes as having been "a growth industry and obsession for several decades now," the diagnosis of misguidedness is entirely correct. Take a good hard look at the conclusions of the Jesus Seminar and you will be forced to agree with Luke Timothy Johnson: Once you've succeeded in finding the "historical Jesus," exactly what have you got? An object of intellectually respectable scholarly interest? Hardly. An object of faith? Absolutely not. No one believes i

Freebie-FengShui, originally uploaded by openmls. Yes, prices have come down in some pockets, but you can’t say that prices have come down across the nation. It’s best to say that sales have slowed down across the nation. Markets have softened. This is the prelude to prices coming down. The question is: who will blink first - — buyers or builders? In an exclusive interview with DNA’s Salil Deshpande, HDFC Chairman Deepak Parekh says it’s now a waiting game as builders try to hold on to prices despite a slowdown in sales. If you know or want to know specific details about who is offering to pay EMIs of up to six months, furnish the house and other sops in Pune Real Estate Market, please, let me know in the comments and i will post about it. For all science fans out there who have not heard about the Ig Nobel prizes yet, I hereby order you to go and buy the book: The Ig Nobel Prizes: The Annals of Improbable Research! The Ig Nobel prizes are dealt out annually at Harvard University, for indisputably ingenious research. Forget stem cells and neutrinos, and instead read about how pigeons have been trained to discriminate between paintings by Picasso and Monet, how scientist have created a computer program that detects when your cat walks on your keyboard, the optimal way of dunking your biscuit, or about solid evidence for the already well known fact that if you drop your sandwich it will fall with the butter side down! One man who has been honored with an Ig Nobel Prize is my great idol, Deepak Chopra. The official statement said the following: "Deepak Chopra of the Chopra center for well being, La Jolla, California, for his unique interpretation of quantum physics as it applies to life, liberty, and the pursuit of economic

Tripti, a widow, and mother of a 15-year-old, has nothing left to save the life of her daughter, Sanjya, but to donate the organs of her body to save her daughter's life. Tripti had somehow managed Rs 5 lakh for the five major operations, which Sanjya has undergone so far. She still needs around Rs 6 lakh for five more operations required to save the girl's life.
Tripti is now planning to sell her kidney and a portion to meet the expenses to be incurred on Sanjya's treatment. On April 5, Sanjya was returning from school when a speeding truck hit her. Since then her condition has been very critical. Doctors said it would not be possible for Sanjya to lead a completely normal life again, but they are making all possible efforts to make her fit.
Help for the girl is coming from the schoolmates of Sanjya and from other technical institutes, but they are not enough. There is a need of more helping hands. Some
The Washington Post went to the NY ComicCon, and found there filmmaker Deepak Chopra, who wants to make some made-for-movie superheroes, but who also had this to say:Chopra is outside a Coffee Bean in Santa Monica, Calif., where he's drinking a cup of coffee containing two scoops of white chocolate powder. ("It's my own concoction," he says.) He sounds like a guy living the sweet life. He's just come from a two-hour workout, which included weight training and yoga, and he's taking the rest of the day off.As he tells it, he isn't in this comics thing just to make a few bucks off a major motion picture. No, he's thinking way bigger than that. He believes comic books can bridge cultural gaps, including the yawning maw that stands between the United States and its enemies."Kids all over the world are reading comic books," he says, "and if we could create a transcultural hero that appeals to kids in countries like Iran and Syria, that could have a huge impact. We've even made a propo
