      Decline the truce
Israel may have 200 nuclear warheads, but Hamas has 200,000 people who want to blow themselves up inside Israel, Hamas leader Mahmoud Zahar said Tuesday. Here's a simple answer. Take a couple of those nuclear warheads and drop them in Gaza. There go the 200,000 homicide bombers. I know this is unlikely to happen but it was just a thought. Actually, 200,000 dead "palestinians" would relieve Hamas

German States See Decline in CPIs In April
08:15 04/28 (Frankfurt) – On Monday, four out the six main German states reported falling prices for April. Hesse, Brandenburg, Baden Wuerttemberg, and Saxony all experienced 0.2% price declines, with prices in the North Rhine-West region falling 0.3%. A Lehman Brothers research note listed three main reasons for the price declines. The first reason is due to the Easter holiday occurring in March. With Germans going on holidays, hotel and leisure prices had risen since previous month. However, the research note indicates that this price increase was expected to reverse itself in the month following Easter. The second reason for the decrease is due to hikes in education costs which occurred in May 2007. As 2008 progresses, the annualized effects of the tuition increases will diminish.“Fin

Decline and Fall of an Empire
What do the Weimar Republic in the early 1930s and present-day Russia have in common? Both nations suffered from post-imperial syndrome. In Germany’s case, this eventually led to the Nazi regime, with Hitler exploiting nostalgia for a lost empire. Nostalgia is always easy to sell. But Germany was in a desperate economic situation in the 1930s. This is not the case in Russia today.Nevertheless, we should wonder what would happen if petroleum prices fell and the oil-addicted Russian state went bankrupt. How then could Russia escape the temptation to resurrect an aggressive authoritarian regime? We must stress the importance of historical memory. Most young Russians do not understand why the USSR collapsed; if they did, they would not yearn for its return. Most Russians be

Dollar Decline May Slow but Will Continue
The U.S. dollar decline versus the European currency has slowed down recently as the investors relied on the intervention by the G7 to overcome the global currency imbalance and strengthen the dollar. Although the finance ministers of the Group of Seven countries are concerned with the overapreciation of the euro against the U.S. dollar, the currency volatility is their primary concern. Elevated volatility is what brings the economies to the risk, according to their April 11 statement. One of the main reasons for the European Central Bank and similarly thinking officials not to act against the euro appreciation lies in the role that the strong currency plays in fight with the inflation. Consumer prices in Eurozone grow fast and if the euro starts to fall against dollar, many commodities an

Russia’s 10 million a day oil output is beginning to slow down at a time in the economic environment when oil prices are high and economies are slowing. The U.S., Europe and Asia may be pitted against each other to secure necessary natural resources. Citigroup states that they believe that the Russian oil output will increase another 1.5 million barrels a day by 2012. However, the recent slow down does have some countries worried that the oil supplier may not be able to maintain production and a slowdown, which would cause additional shortages of oil, would be forthcoming. This would spell disaster for many oil hungry countries. Oil prices have now risen to ove

How much can the Pope heal the American flock's decline of trust?
The American visit poses an unprecedented pastoral challenge for the 80-year-old pontiff. Benedict's is the first papal trip to the United States since the priest sex abuse crisis erupted in 2001. It is a controversy that has left much of the American laity bitterly disillusioned with their Church's leadership. For many of the 67 million American Catholics, how the Pope confronts the lingering fallout from the pedophilia scandal may largely determine the success of this visit.Benedict's arrival in the U.S. is being seen as a make-or-break moment for Rome to regain the trust of its American flock, the third largest national contingent within a worldwide Catholic Church of 1.1 billion faithful. In recent days, the Vatican has confirmed that on at least one occasion Benedict will specifically
