      Debit Spreads
Obviously a significant technical day today with several 'key' levels being breached to the upside. The strong finish was also impressive for the indices. Of course buying now seems a little risky with the unemployment data (8:30 ET) coming out tomorrow morning. Overall, I would like to see the market pullback here... as to present me with a much better entry point. I will continue to look to buy the dips on some individual stocks/ETFs.I will be keeping POT on my watchlist. I think the pullback (almost touching its 50 day MA today) will still present a good buying opportunity. Commodities as a group have taken a beating lately, both in the media and in price. Keep in mind though that some commodities, like potash, and unlike gold, have an actual use and thus justify a higher price.N

      Outright Options vs Debit Spreads
Selecting a strategy for that next option trade can be a difficult choice. This example will focus on Semiconductor HOLDRS Trust (SMH). I am bullish on SMH in the long-term and I'm trying to decide whether I want to buy outright calls or do a debit spread.Start with the chart. I think SMH bottomed on Jan 22 and is grinding its way back up. If it breaches the trendline I have drawn I will abandon the trade and cut my losses; otherwise, I think it will keep following this trend upward. I think it has the potential to retest 35.50.Expiration. Since I'm leaning toward buying options on SMH I want to give myself a few extra months. I'm picking Nov 08 as my time frame even though I have no intention of holding onto the calls until then. ITM, ATM, OTM. This again has a lot to do with you

For some transactions, like hotel reservations and airline tickets, you can't use cash so a debit card is a good option. But there's a dark side to debit cards. Mary Hunt wrote a blog post about this. It's a long post so I'll summarize a couple of good points she makes:"Banks now allow customers to overdraft their accounts using their debit cards at check out as well as an ATM machine. Here's my beef with that: Even though your bank has the ability to stop you from swiping your debit card to pay for a $5 hamburger when you have only $4.94 in your account by declining the purchase-t

So this March, when the Austin (Tex.) insurance agent pulled into a gas station for a fill-up and saw a sign promising an additional 10¢ off per gallon for signing up with a new e-payment program, she was interested. Credit Card vs. Debit Card - What Are The Differences
Ah, the good old days. If you are a baby boomer, like me, then you probably remember how important it was to rush to the bank on payday. You had to get there before the teller lanes closed so that you could have your cash allowance for the week. Otherwise, if you needed cash you had to write a check, then go to the bank, and cash the check for real cash. Fortunately the days of the mad rush to get cash from the bank are long gone. We now enjoy the convenience of using a nearby automatic teller machine (ATM) or you can even get cash back at your local grocery, hardware or convenience store. The card you use at the ATM is known as a debit card. When debit cards first appeared it was easy to tell them apart from credit cards. Debit cards didn't have a credit card compan

      Debit Cards
What A Debit Card Is? Debit cards are less common than credit cards, but an increasing number of banks and savings institutions offer them now. You can use debit cards like credit cards in making purchases. However, unlike credit cards, which bill you later for the amount you have been charged, debit cards transfer your money immediately and directly out of your account with the bank. With a debit card you can draw on a checking account, a savings account, and, with some, a personal line of credit extended by the bank as an overdraft privilege — you can even draw from a predetermined loan that is secured by your home or other property as collateral. Debit cards are being used more and more in such places as department stores and supermarkets. Instead of having to cash a check with the manager’s approval, or using the store’s own charge card, a clerk inserts your debit card in a point-of-sale terminal and types in the information, and the amount is immediately de

      Debit card review
I’m reviewing a new site called epayarea.com. What they offer is a debit card with benefits. The very first thought that came to my mind was about travel money. People need a safe, secure and convenient means of handling money while traveling. With this new debit card,  money can be loaded to the card online. The cards can be used anywhere. What could be easier than that? How about sending a pre-loaded card to your kid in college? No more excuses for not being able to come home for Thanksgiving or Christmas. What do I find encouraging with this arrangement? Well, security is naturally at the top of my list but it is closely followed by ease of use. The epayarea.com site offers email payments and mobile payments in addition to their debit cards being used at ATMs, POS and in online purchasing.

Which Is Best For Asians, A Credit Or Debit Card?
Three months ago, I was very anxious to earn money online. I came up with this blog, applied to almost every earning program available and just persevered. Now that I am starting to make real money from blogging, I am faced with a dilemma on how to be paid, when to get paid and how to do balance transfers. Well, im trying to figure things out again as I did when I started blogging and interest free credit cards would really help alot. This raises a question on my mind though, which is better for asians, debit or credit cards ?Personally, I have to go for mint credit cards than debit cards. Why? Primarily because of the benefits that you can have while using one. Money-less transaction has become a necessity with today's fast forwarding society and a credit card would be the best tool for an asian who is fast becoming a globally competitive race.

How Does a Debit Card Work?
A debit card looks exactly like a credit card. It will have the same shape, color, and magnetic strip that a credit card has. A debit card is used almost exactly the same way as a credit card. In fact, there are times when a debit card is used exactly the same way as a credit card. For example, if you are at the grocery store and you want to pay with a debit card, you swipe your cad through the machine and type in PIN (PIN means personal identification number). If the bill clears your debit is approved and on you go. However, if you are in a restaurant, you card is swiped like a credit card and instead of having to type in a PIN, you have to sign a receipt. So, if everything is exactly (or near exactly) the same as a credit card, what is the difference? The main difference (and the most important difference) is that a debit card is secured. In other words, a debit card is linked to a checking or savings account and uses that money to pay a bill. Put simply, a debit card is a gl

How to withdraw money from ATM using the Public Bank Visa Electron Debit Card

I inserted the debit card into the atm, then entered the pin provided by public bank. After that i requested to change the pin, when i'm done, the atm returned my card to me.Only 1 atm that is working and at that time, there's already 2 guys behind me, waiting for their turn. Debit Card Warning!
Debit Card Warning! We are, to put it mildly, not fans of debit cards. They are tied directly to the money in your bank account and should be used only by people who are so undisciplined they can't possibly handle credit cards -- not our Dolans.com family! The first thing we don't like is that you don't have the same protection as credit cards. When your credit card is lost or stolen, as long as you report the loss within one or two days, the maximum for which they'll hold you liable is $50. (In fact, if you have a good credit record and call them right away, they will most likely waive that $50.) But with a debit card, someone can steal it and debit your account down to zero before you even realize it's gone! But here's what really scares us: the ATM "debit" cards that have Visa or MasterCard logos on them. Banks send them to customers without asking. These cards can be used with or without a personal identification number (PIN), just like credit cards, but the thief has his han

Capital One to Issue a New Debit Card
According to the Nilson Report, an industry newsletter, one in three Americans use Visa or MasterCard debit cards last year, up from 17% in 2000. Meanwhile, regarding to credit cards, the numbers have gone down to 73% in 2006 from 82% in 2000. Debit cards are still very popular with those who have not good credit. Capital One is testing a new kind of debit card which is supposed to change how banks and consumers approach debit cards. The innovative idea of this card is: It can be linked to any bank account and used for purchases and ATM withdrawals. Most importantly, this kind of new card will give you rewards for using it to make purchases. The new Capital One MasterCard debit card will offer rewards nearly as generous as those consumers can get from their credit cards. There are two types of rewards: points, miles or cash back. Of course, there will be no fees associated with this card from CapitalOne unless the bank imposes its own fees. According to the industry experts, this new d

But on the application form, i clearly stated that i wanted to collect the card at the branch, not delivered to me!!Anyway, it can't be that fast what. The Pos Laju's note stated they delivered the item to me at about 12:30pm, I bank in the money around 10am this morning, cannot be that fast what, right? Within 2 hours they are able to send me the card? It is totally unbelievable!!Nevermind, i told myself, i can collect the item tomorrow, then i will know what is that item!! oh wait, they closed on first saturday!! shit!! that means i can only collect the item next saturday. arggg, i don't think i can wait that long!! I submitted my application to one of the Public Bank's branch on the 5th of October. After submitted for around 2 weeks, i called the customer service to check on my card application. I don' t know whether i'm just so unlucky, or all their customer service are not well trained. Everytime i called, i'm being answered by some RUDE customer service and it really makes my mood bad after talking to them.Since I can't get any answers from calling the customer service, i decided not to waste anymore money on these useless phone calls. I decided to go to the branch to talk face to face to the customer service there. Of cos, it's not a pleasant conversation too, the branch showed me the documents from HQ, my application was being sent and confirmed received by the HQ on the 9 of October but why it's still not in the system? The answer they gave me? Asked me to wait and wait and wait. Hey, i'm not trying to get my card approved, i just hope that my application are submitted and entered t

To Whomever Stole My Debit Card
To: Whomever Stole My Debit Card: I am not sure who you are, but I thought I would take a minute to write to you and let you know the negative impact you had on my life over the weekend. Sometime after I visited Walgreens on Thursday, you found my debit card and obviously decided to take the opportunity to use it, not just once, not just twice, but at least 10 different times before I realized it was missing. It would seem you decided to first spend $150.00 purchasing Halloween items at Party City and then went next door to Target and spent another $62.00. As far as I can tell, that was it for the day. I did lose my card late in the evening, so that probably explains why you didn’t spend more. The next day, you decided to purchase some groceries totaling $74.34 and then filled your gas tank up costing me another $60.00. After all of this spending, you must have been hungry since you went to Olive Garden and got dinner for $46.99. Seems you either drive a lot or you have

Comparing Credit Cards and Debit Cards
Debit cards are cards that draw against your checking account. Basically, when you make a purchase with your debit card, the purchase price is deducted from a pool of money that you already have on deposit with your bank. If you spend more than you have on deposit, you are likely to pay overdraft fees and whatever other fees your bank is allowed to charge based upon your debit card agreement. Some of you may have used your debit card as a credit card at the gas station and/or grocery store. In other words, you may have pushed the “credit” button on the payment machines available at these locations. You did not have to enter your pin and you had to sign a receipt or enter your zip code. Even though the transaction was executed and approved like a typical credit transaction, your debit card purchase is not reflected on your credit report and the purchase prices is debited from your checking account within a business day or two. Therefore, although transacted like a credit tran

Reducing the costs of using your credit/debit cards abroad
Of the hundreds of people who have stayed with us over the course of this year, only two or three have paid using the Nationwide credit card which is crazy as they’re the only place that doesn’t charge to use your cards overseas. Perhaps more crazy though is that of the dozen or so couples who live in Spain and have used us as a pitstop on their way to/from the UK, only one used a Nationwide card as they’re spending quite a considerable chunk of their income on bank charges. Quite how much is staggering. For example, a friend who lives in Brussels let drop once that he just used his Halifax card in the same way that he had done when living in the UK ie he would lift £20 or £30 each time he needed some money and likewise when he was paying for the groceries or whatever. Most people read the bit in the credit/debit card charging information that says “currency exchange 2.75%” and figure that he wouldn’t have run up much of a bill. However, there is a

Receive Paypal Money on Your Credit, Debit or Prepaid Card
Many of the non-US publishers and reviewers must have been struggling to find out ways to receive their hard earned money in Paypal. Earlier, there was only way to receive Paypal money was to ask for a check and deposit in the local bank. In the asian countries like India, Philippines - it takes around 7-10 days to receive the check from US and 21-28 days to encash the check after depositing in local bank. It was not only waste of time but waste of money as well. Paypal charges $5 to release the check, and on top of that the local bank also charges for deposit of foreign currency checks. And these bank charges vary from bank to bank. When using credit cards and debit cards is part of day-to-day life, receiving the Paypal money on your credit, debit cards is the best feature they have provided till date for non-US publishers - in my humble opinion. This is pretty easy process now. This feature is available Paypal users in 26 countries wiz Argentina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Chile, Cyprus, Es

Withdraw PayPal Money into Malaysia Credit or Debit Cards is Now Possible
Some months back I heard rumour stating by the end of year 2007 PayPal will open up a withdrawal option for Malaysia account holders to withdraw its money locally. This rumour is indeed proven to be true and came sooner than I expected. The official PayPal Blog announced that PayPal’s now offers account balance withdrawals to Visa-branded credit, debit, or prepaid cards in 26 international markets. Malaysia is listed in it. The withdrawal is very simple and can be accomplished through an easy 3-step process. This new feature is particularly valuable to PayPal account holders in markets where customers could use PayPal to send money, but had limited ways to receive or withdraw funds. A good example is Malaysia. In the past, customers in Malaysia could only fund, send and receive their money but only can withdraw via a U.S.A banking account. Now, Malaysian account holders can withdraw money in a secure environment and have their funds available for online and offline purchases usi

Top reasons for choosing credit over debit
It's a question we face daily that still leaves most of us mystified: "Debit or credit?" Here, courtesy of Consumer Reports' Money Advisor, are seven reasons to opt for credit: 1. Credit costs you less. Some banks charge customers for so-called in-store "PIN-based" debit-card transactions. Fees range from 25 cents to $1, depending on the bank, Money Advisor reports. By choosing a "signature-based" transaction, you sidestep these fees. 2. Credit won't result in a hold on your account. When you use a debit card to reserve a hotel, rent a car or even fill up your tank, vendors sometimes put a "block" on your checking account until the transaction is processed -- and the amount of the block can significantly exceed the purchase price. Using your debit card to buy $25 worth of gas, for instance, may result in $100 of the money in your account being "blocked." If you're running a low balance, this can result in punishing overdraft charges. 3. Credit makes it easier to cover your bases

Credit Cards and Debit Cards - Privacy Tips and Tricks
(Archived in: Personal Privacy, Privacy Tips and Tricks)Try to avoid using credit cards altogether, but carry one or two for emergency use. Charge cards like the American Express Card are a better alternative to credit cards that have high monthly carrying charges and late charge fees associated with them. Never use charge cards, bank debit cards, or revolving credit charge cards for personal identification. Never allow merchants to write down card identification numbers on other instruments like on the face, or back of checks.Use debit cards and credit cards in the name of a business. Business debit/credit cards do not necessarily have to have your name imprinted. Most credit cards can be processed as a credit card. Be careful to guard PINs (Personal; Identification Number), as debit cards are not protected against fraudulent transactions, or by the same liability limits as credit cards. On credit cards and debit cards...
Kilpinger's got a couple interesting articles. This one on credit disclosure reform greatly interested me because I'd been waiting to hear some updates on this particular topic. Here's the official press release from the Federal Reserve. The skinny is that regulators want more information on credit card statements and applications. Some I am pleased with, others seem like a waste. Forcing them to give 45 days notice, instead of the current 15, before making term changes is pretty important in my opinion. For anyone who carries a balance, 15 days (where the changes would likely take effect the next billing cycle basically) isn't much time to reject the changes and move their debt somewhere else. Disclosing the amount it could cost you if you make only minimum payments (check out the proposed formats here and here) seem a little overboard. I suppose it is necessary for some people, but I want my statement (and my terms) to be simpler and easier to read, not more complex.Taking out the

Credit cards vs. Debit cards: Which to get?
If you have an account with a local or national bank, most likely they’ll offer you an ATM card with a Visa or Mastercard logo. These cards (called “debit cards”) can be used at any store that accepts the Visa/Mastercard as well as your local cash machine. So, how does it differ from a regular credit card?  Say you buy the new Kelly Clarkson CD for $14.99 using your debit card. Swipe, sign, and bag it. Since the debit card is connected directly to your bank account, the $14.99 is automatically deducted out of your account. No bills in the mail from Chase or Citibank.  Using a credit card for this purchase, such as these cards geared towards students, would add Ms. Clarkson’s vocal stylings’ $14.99 to your current month’s bill, which you pay off when it comes in the mail. What are the benefits of using each one?  The debit cards are certainly more convenient. The account is tied to your bank account and there is no bill to pay (or accrue interest on). It also doubles as

How should you take your holiday money? Cash? Travellers Cheques? Credit Cards? Debit Cards?
I find that very few people give any thought to how they should take their money when they go on holiday beyond saying they’d like $200 or whatever to the travel agent and thereby getting ripped off. So, to help you decide, here’s a little guide: The first thing to do is to check what currency is used at your destination. If it’s a mainstream currency such as dollars or euros then it’s best to take the money in that form. However, if you’re going off to less mainstream countries, check which of the principal currencies is most commonly used there (if in doubt, take dollars). Sometimes you can’t get the currency used outside the country or can’t get sensible amounts of it so you need to take dollars or euros eg India used to only allow you to import £5 of their currency which wasn’t really worthwhile getting. What about taking cash? Well, if you’re in America then it’s always worthwhile to take, say, $100 with you (nothing l

Credit Cards Offer Better Protections Than Debit Cards
