I’ve had my head buried in computer stuff mostly the last week. I’m trying to soak up as much information about Mac computers, working with Leopard, available software for it etc, as I can before I leap. Tomorrow my iMac should arrive.Besides my quilting and embroidery software programs that require Windows to run, some very important programs to me that need alternatives a

From: Bison Advocates Propose a Way out of Needless Buffalo Slaughter This has been a gruesome year for the buffalo of Yellowstone with nearly one third of the herd killed by state and federal authorities. The 1,465 animals slaughtered represent the largest death toll for Yellowstone's buffalo since the 19th Century, when the species was nearly wiped off the planet. On the heels of a Government Accountability Office (GAO) report critical of the way that bison have been treated, Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), Buffalo Field Campaign, and Gallatin Wildlife Association have called for the Governor of Montana and administrators of the Interagency Bison Management Plan (IBMP) to immediately put a bold plan in place to stop the slaughter. The plan centers on a sp

4000 American soldiers dead and another 40,000 or more American soldiers maimed. A large but uncounted number of American; contract workers, aid workers, reporters and the like wounded or killed. How to count the number of their family members' lives changed or ruined? But more numerous than all of these together are the innocent Iraqis, the people we claimed to be helping, who have been killed, maimed, exiled or converted into enemies. Documented civilian deaths from violence 85,000-90, 000 Iraqis. Altogether one million + Iraqis have been killed or maimed in the violence caused by the US-led invasion of March 2003. All because of a thoughtless gang of fanatics hiding behind our presidents fatuous grin. We are watching a horrendous chapter in our history being written.

Unlike some in the Blogging community, who think we should just turn tail and run, without finishing what we started. Well, I am not among that crowd. The Article: U.S. death toll in Iraq hits 4,000 (via msnbc.com) A roadside bomb killed four U.S. soldiers in Baghdad on Sunday, the military said, pushing the overall American death toll in the five-year war to at least 4,000. The grim milestone came on the same day that rockets and mortars pounded the U.S.-protected Green Zone, underscoring the fragile security situation and the resilience of both Sunni and Shiite extremist groups despite an overall lull in violence. BAGHDAD - Four U.S. soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb in southern Baghdad late Sunday, raising the death toll for American forces since start of the war to 4,000, according to the Pentagon. The monthly toll of U.S. service members who have died in Iraq is on track to being the lowest in nearly two years. It is the lowest number since 32 troops died in March 2006 and the second-lowest since 20 troop deaths in February 2004, according to an Associated Press count based on military figures.
It seems that every day, whether I turn on the TV, pick up the paper or get my news online, there is another pro abortion leftist screaming about the death toll of American soldiers in Iraq. Before I go any further, those people are hypocrites. Now, why aren't they and others talking about the death toll of insurgents?I can't point to the liberal media on this one. Supposedly, to avoid Viet Nam-like errors the Bush administration has decided not to release the number of enemy casualties. Why not? Can he not see that lacking this information aides liberals in painting the picture of a losing war? Can you imagine the coach of your home team only allowing the score of the visiting team to be posted on the scoreboard? You team may be the best in the league, but you would always have a zero staring at you. Even if the visitors kept a low score, you'd still be questioning yourself a bit.The point is, liberals are saying the war is lost based on one death toll, not comparing two. At the s
On 9/11, The Question Is: What Are We Forgetting? By Hank Edson Less than 3,000 people died on September 11, 2001, the culmination of a criminal conspiracy that was years in the making. According to the Center for Disease Control, in 2005, 16,885 people died as a result of alcohol-related car accidents in the United States. Thus, the annual death toll resulting from a culture of alcohol addiction, callous disregard for personal responsibility, and a consumer industry that markets intoxication as happiness is over 5 times the death toll arising from terrorism in the United States in the worst year ever recorded for terrorism in America. In 2005, handguns killed over 30,000 people in America. This is 10 times the worst ever annual death toll for terrorism in America. The death toll from the Yazidi massacre in northern Iraq has now officially risen to more than 500:
One week after a series of truck bombs hit a poor rural area near the Syrian border, the known casualty toll has soared to more than 500 dead and 1,500 wounded, according to the Iraqi Red Crescent Society, making it the bloodiest coordinated attack since the American-led invasion in 2003.
...
Statistical certainty can be difficult to obtain after bomb attacks, and some government officials near the villages have put the death toll closer to 360. But the Red Crescent figures align with estimates from two hospital officials in the area and with the typical ratio of dead to wounded from big bomb attacks.
The final number of dead may yet be even higher.

The death toll from a tropical storm in central Vietnam hit 60 after six more bodies were recovered, while nine others were reported missing, officials said Friday. Rescue workers continued to search for survivors from the tropical storm, which was the worst to hit the country this year and caused widespread flooding and damage across central Vietnam. It was downgraded to a depression on Monday. Four more bodies were found in Ha Tinh, the worst-hit province where 22 people have died, including eight children, said Phan Nguyen Tung, a provincial disaster official. He said more deaths were expected because many remote villages were still unreachable. The death toll in the Central Highland province of Daklak rose by one to 15, and six remained missing and were feared dead, said provincial official Phan Thi Thu Hien. In Quang Binh province, the number killed rose to 13 after the discovery of another body, and two others were reported missing, said Nguyen Ngoc Dien, a provincial off
Update on this story. The death toll was much higher than initially reported:
Iraqi officials said Saturday that the death toll in a devastating attack on a Shiite market district in Baghdad had risen to 61 after dozens more bodies were pulled from the rubble.
...
There were conflicting accounts about what caused the blasts.
Iraqi police in the area said a garbage truck exploded near the market at about the same time as a Katyusha rocket slammed into a three-story residential building about 100 meters (yards) away.
But an Interior Ministry spokesman, Maj. Gen. Abdul-Karim Khalaf said Saturday that it was a single parked truck bombing that led to the secondary explosions of two large generators and 10 nearby cars.
