Johnny Depp’s and Keith Richards star studded performance in last summer’s “Dead Man’s Chest”, was the third highest grossing film ever. It grossed $1.1 billion worldwide at the box office. Johnny Depp’s pay check = over $60 million. 2008 should prove equally profitable for the reserved and reclusive actor. The third “Pirates” sequel, “At World’s End”, is on its way and will at least match its predecessor, which earned $344 million in its opening weekend. What’s next? Johnny starring as the blood-thirsty butcher in this winter’s film adaptation of Sweeney Todd. It’s sure to be another block-buster.

Twelve years after being sentenced to die, Charles Walker is off of death row. Walker was hours away from execution in 2004. In 2006, a judge found that the State withheld vital evidence from Walker’s defense team and that one of Walker’s co-defendants lied on the stand. Instead of retrying the case, prosecutors allowed Walker to enter an Alford plea to conspiracy to commit murder and accessory to murder. Said Walker’s attorney, “If there is a larger lesson here, it’s that you can’t expect a system made up of human beings to be successful when they decide to play God.” More here.

All the hype that has surrounded the final instalment of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, it seems that the figures have fell well below what Disney was hoping for. The movie took $112.5 million, this figure was taken from Friday to Sunday, but sales figures for the second instalment Dead Man’s Chest, took $135.6 million last summer on its opening weekend.
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End fell well short of other successful movie releases this month. Spider-Man 3 took $151.1 million and Shrek the Third took $121.6 million. When you add worldwide figures up for At World’s End, the total comes to $332 million

Philip Workman was executed by lethal injection at 1am Wednesday night. His request for his last meal was that a pizza be given to a homeless person near the prison. That request was not honored by the prison officials who claimed they don’t do that sort of thing.
A day later though, his request was honored by many others, and many of those without homes in Nashville ate delicious pizza, inspired by a man whose last request was a benevolent act be done on his behalf.

Philip Workman,53, requested his last meal be a vegetarian pizza delivered to any homeless person near the Riverbend Maximum Security Institution where he was executed at 2 a.m. EST on Wednesday.But prison officials refused his request. When news of Workman's request was published in the local media, some people in the community were devoted to making it happen.In all, nearly $12,000 worth of pizzas where delivered to homeless shelters across Nashville on Wednesday.Workman was sentenced to death for killing a Memphis police officer in 1981 during a robbery at a Wendy's restaurant. While "Crazy Man," "Situation," "Country Boy,"and "Dead Man"appear on both albums, the different tracks are enough to give the semblance of a full album. With Pete Bailey's banshee wailings and Dave Mitchell's fuzz guitar, this was a band that perfectly nailed the sound and the time.
