At 2:00 a.m. local on Sunday, November 2, 2008, most of the United States (except Hawaii and Arizona) will leave daylight saving time behind and fall back an hour to standard time. The annoyance of resetting clocks (or forgetting to, and showing up an hour early for appointments on Sunday) may raise the question of why we bother with this rigmarole in the first place. Daylight saving time is mos
The staff at the Davis Law Group, P.S. would like to remind you to set your clocks back one hour this weekend. Please use extreme caution as you adjust to the time change and earlier darkness. When the clocks move back an hour at the end of daylight savings time, pedestrian collisions, crosswalk accidents, and personal injury cases involving motor vehicles are more likel
During Daylight Saving Time, clocks are turned forward an hour, effectively moving an hour of daylight from the morning to the evening. In the United States, Daylight Saving Time began on Sunday, March 9 and will revert to Standard Time on Sunday, November 2. In the European Union, Summertime began on Sunday, March 30, and [...]
Last night around 2 am, the daylight saving time begun, now we had another hour in advance, I love this time than before since we had another hour to sleep! Well, I forgot about it though, today, especially on updating our clocks. I just noticed it until I was kind a worried since we're going to be late for a birthday dinner for my brother in law, I thought it's already 6 pm but it was still 5 pm, my husband was kind a like, what?! lol! Well, just never thought about it. We don't have it in the Philippines! lol!Let's recollect of how this Daylight Saving Time works:Daylight saving time (DST) is the convention of advancing clocks so that afternoons have more daylight and mornings have less. Typically clocks are adjusted forward one hour near the start of spring and are adjusted backward
Just when things were starting to seem normal again the rug gets pulled from under the millions of early commuters in this country. Finally, they were able to see at least a touch of daylight in the mornings before they entered their often windowless workplaces. But not tomorrow, thanks to the idiotic Daylight Saving Time legislation that our brilliant representatives decided to make effective

Here's another report about a pedestrian being struck by a car while crossing an intersection in the early morning hours in Seattle.
If you recall, there was some reports about the increase of pedestrian-auto accidents during daylight saving time. The theory being that when daylight saving time goes into effect, it is much darker outside in the morning hours. Thus, more pedestrians are struck by motorists who cannot adequately see the person when it is so dark out. See also Wikipedia's report on daylight saving time and the increase of pedestrian accidents.
The Washington State Department of Transportation warns:
During this period of dark, rainy and foggy conditions, drivers are reminded to watch for pedestrians along school bus routes, intersections and transit stops

We have around 100 beta testers right now and are looking to cast a wider net. If you have Windows machines in New Zealand, or know someone who does...please send us an email to try out a beta of our DST update. (support@intelliadmin.com)We will send you a download link, and instructions on how to test it.It is actually very stable, and has been tested on NT 4, 2000, XP, and 2003. We just want to be double sure we have covered all situations before releasing the update. Please note that MS will not be releasing any patches for NT4, or 2000...so this is probably the only free method of updating those machines in NZ.Check out our Windows Admin Tools
Since I previously posted on DST, this article describes a victim of this change: Time stands still for Hempfield teen in lockup - Tribune-Review. Poor kid called at the wrong time and the school failed to update their clocks until Monday, so he got bagged for someone else's bomb threat. Granted, it was an iffy move to call at 3am out of boredom, but 12 days in juvenile detention? No way I would call that not overstepping his rights. No wonder he is now home schooled.
'Beginning in 2007, daylight saving time (DST) will be extended in the United States. DST will start on March 11, 2007, which is three weeks earlier than usual, and it will end on November 4, 2007, which is one week later than usual (more details on the new DST start and end times can be found here)'

I'm loving the new early Daylight Saving Time. Notice, that I say "Saving" as opposed to "Savings". "It's not a SAVINGS bank!!" according to DST police Noorul. Interestingly enough, a Google search will produce 957,000 results for the incorrect "daylight savings time" and only 671,000 results for the correct "daylight saving time". Noorul, you have a long way to go on your mission! My question is why ever go back to standard time? Lets do it all year round. Shift the time zones over. I hate when it gets dark at 3pm in December. I think it would also help curb seasonal depression. Even though you don't get more light hours, it gets dark later in the day. According to this article,During energy crisis years, Congress enacted earlier starting dates for daylight time. In 1974, daylight time began on Jan. 6 and in 1975 it began on Feb. 23.Can you imagine the uproar from IT people if we willy-nilly changed DST nowadays? I've heard that you need to go back to standard time for
everybody loves more sunshine?...photo by rick harris
Who doesn't love more sunlight? I don't.
Recently on March 11, people around the country had to "Spring" their clocks forward for Daylight Saving Time. I must admit I hate Daylight Saving Time. And it is "Saving", not "Savings".
I detest DST because it seems like a total waste of time, instead of something that saves it.

With daylight savings time coming three weeks early this year, I.T. admins have been busy making sure businesses and government agencies get the proper patches to make sure everything operates normally. But when it comes to your own devices, such as smartphones and VCRs, you might have to update them manually to accommodate [...]
Don’t forget to set your clocks ahead an hour at 2 a.m. tomorrow morning (March 11). This is the first year that the Daylight Saving period begins in March, thanks to the Energy Policy Act of 2005. Daylight Saving Time usually begins the first week of April. You will probably have to adjust your clocks on your computers also, since they are only programmed to automatically change the first Sunday in April.
The Exchange team has posted a helpdesk oriented document (below) that provides recommendations and prescriptive guidance for updating Outlook calendars to comply with the Daylight Saving Time (DST) 2007 rule changes. Did you know daylight saving time will begin next Sunday? It will end the first Sunday in November. Mark your calendars now. And read the rest of the story here.[US Representative Edward J.] Markey convinced Congress the change would save energy because Americans would not need as many lights in the evening. In 2005, he struck again, tucking a monthlong extension into a massive energy bill that took effect this year. In addition to moving the start of daylight saving time to the second Sunday in March, the law pushes the end back a week, to the first Sunday in November. That will make it safer for children to trick or treat, since it will be lighter on Halloween, Markey said.Related reading: Spring Forward: The Annual Madness of Daylight Saving Time (Michael Downing).
Beginning this year, the Daylight Saving Time (DST) is being extended and it will begin March 11, 2007 which is 3 weeks earlier than normal and it will end on November 4, 2007 which is one week later than normal. As Microsoft states on their web site:
“unless certain updates are applied to your computer, the time zone settings for your system clock may be incorrect during this four week period. In particular, you must make sure that both your Windows operating system and your calendar programs are updated.”
If you have Windows Vista, you are fine, if not, go to the following link for the Microsoft Daylight Saving Time Help and Support Center.
I’m not sure where you are reading this, but in the US, we’ve just lost an hour of much-wanted sleep due to daylight saving time. As I write this post, I’m wondering about whether or not DST is a good thing.
