I guess he retaliated by crying upon separating with him at the kindy. He still cried even after almost 3 weeks at this new kindy. Sigh...He told Tr O that he would eat on his own without help. (Wow, that's great!). Tr O returned the dozen of diapers to me and told me W wouldn't need those diapers in her house. He didn't wet himself while he was napping. (Another great news!)Tr O also explained to me that W wouldn't need his feeding bottle for his milk as she would bepreparing the milk in a cup for him. The answers would boil down to what you want your kids to achieve.Finding a daycare centre has never become an issue until now because Big Aunty is moving to a place which is inconvenient for the school transport of W and H. So, it is time to look for a nanny or a daycare centre. The questions I asked myself is why do I need to put them under the care of a nanny and why do I need to put them in a daycare centre? With a nanny, they may be having a lot more attention and care as the number of kids under supervision would normally be very small. The kids' meals are presumably well taken care of, again as the number of kids in a home is normally limited and food is normally home-cooked.I have a candidate in mind, to be nanny to my kids. A daycare cautionary tale
I’ve been following a story in the media here about an unlicensed child care provider who has been arrested and charged with forcible confinement and obstructing police. The story was first published yesterday, with details of how the parents of 11 children, ages one to four, were called to come and pick up their children at the care provider’s home after police and paramedics raided the home following complaints by two sets of parents. I couldn’t help but imagine what it must have been like for those parents to get that call out of the blue in the middle of the day… “Come and pick up your kids, the police and paramedics have shut down your daycare.” Today, the follow-up story said that four of the youngest children, all under the age of two, were “forcibly confined” in a playpen in the furnace room of the home during the day. I’m chilled by this story because it could have so easily been me, been my kids. The article quoted one

It seems to be working out pretty well though. She is eating more at daycare then she normally does with me. She also is starting to get on a schedule. She had her first night where she slept through the night also! So, as hard as it is to pay someone else to be with your baby all day long, I have to say that the daycare has been very good to me with the adjustment that I had to make.

      Problem with Daycare
I have always been pleased with Eli’s daycare provider (Tutor Time), but today I had to confront a teacher for her lack of effort, inability to do the right thing and general attitude. Here is the scenario. Eli is a smart boy, but at times he can be like every other little snot nosed kid and not want to share. So this morning I drop him off at daycare and he pulls a toy (shapes puzzle) and starts to play. A little boy named Michael (who is Eli’s best friend at daycare) comes over and sits down nicely and starts to do the puzzle with my son. Eli freaks out, grabbing the pieces from Michael and I watch as the teacher intervenes. She takes the toy from Michael and gives the toy back to Eli and scoots him so he can go play with the toy by himself. I immediately overreact and tell her that is not the proper solution. Kids need to share, and Eli when not sharing needs to educated. Pulling the toy from Michael who did nothing wrong and enabling this behavior in my son is NOT acce

      Done With Daycare
Zane got sick again last week, just a week after returning to school after a month off for vacation. During that month off he was never sick, even after traveling on eight airplanes. So obviously his school is a cesspool of disease. This time he got Grace and me sick. We both have been suffering from a sinus thing since the weekend. Mine was really bad on Monday. Zane was starting to get better over the weekend, but took a turn on Monday night. He woke up in the middle of the night with a very high fever. I ended up staying home with him yesterday. A trip to the doctor in the afternoon confirmed a double ear infection for like the sixth time and even with tubes in his ears. So he's on antibiotics again. He still has the fever this morning. With him getting sick all the time, we're really rethinking the school situation. Grace is going to try to get her schedule changed so we can avoid sending him. We're also looking into some private daycare options. Hopefully we'll solve the problem

      Love is in the daycare
She’s only 2 years old and she already has an admirer. A boy in her class, Prince Charming has a crush on my Princess. The other morning as we walked into her classroom I could hear the bright and cheerful voice of Ms. K.  “Look, Charming! Princess is here.” I looked over and there stood Charming staring at my curly headed beauty with a big grin on his face. Just as my brain was starting to put the pieces together Ms. K spoke again. “Charming has a crush on Princess. Don’t you, Charming?” Right on cue Charming turned beet red and, biting his lower lip he dove behind the cots in embarrassment.  I gave him an understanding smile and then left the poor boy alone.  Princess smiled and cheerfully said “Hi” to Charming but I could see that the feelings aren’t mutual.  She was more interested in helping me fill out her day sheet by drawing circles all over it. If boys are already crushing on my daughter what are the teenage years

Daycare center may go in near sex offenders
A church in Tampa, FL is planning on building a daycare center and preschool it says "the neighborhood desperately needs." We target working families that can't afford a quality pre-school.I hope that means that they will be providing a quality pre-school at an affordable rate, but the marketing language directed at people has always bothered me, particularly when used by churches. We aren't "targeting" anyone. But the statement seems almost perverse considering the difficulty this proposed daycare/preschool has caused. It is to be built next to an apartment which houses sex offenders. The owner of the complex warned the church prior to filing the paperwork and also asked the council to deny the daycare. It went ahead and approved the permit Thursday. At least the apartment owner recognizes that this might not be a good idea. Why is nobody listening?I think the closing paragraph of the story holds a clue.State law says that sex offenders can’t live within 1,000 feet of a school

We survived the first week of daycare...barely.
Snuggle Bug survived his first week of daycare and, by default, so did we. It started out to be a rough week. This daycare thing is not for the faint of heart and it's caused our hearts much pain and sorrow. This first 3 days last week, Snuggle Bug cried every day that we've dropped him off. In fact, some mornings he cried when we put him in the car and would say, "No go sool" (which means, "No go to school"). He's also said, "Daddy no go work." and "Mommy, get back here." as I'm walking away and leaving him in the daycare center. The mornings I tried to keep our parting brief were ugly. I had to peel him off of me, as he's crying and screaming, and hand him over to the teacher and then walk away with the sound of his hysterical sobbing ringing in my ears. Needless to say, I was crying as well as I got to my car and drove to work.Wednesday I tried a different approach, against the advice of many others who have been there, done that. I brought Snuggle Bug in to his classroom and ins

      Daycare linked to Misbehavior
By Mimi Rothschild In other news, new study shows water found to be wet. In all seriousness, it gets my goat that the results of this study would be considered surprising. This eCanadaNOW report explains: A much-anticipated report from the largest and longest-running study of American child care has found that keeping a preschooler in a day care center for a year or more increased the likelihood that the child would become disruptive in class — and that the effect persisted through the sixth grade. Parents, your children’s formative years are not worth it. Even if you can’t make those mortgage payments without a second income, consider finding work that would allow you to be at home taking care of the children. The New York Times hits on an even more pressing issue, and one that should raise eyebrows among homeschoolers: That the troublesome behaviors lasted through at least sixth grade, he said, should raise a broader question: “So what happens in classrooms, schools

      Much Ado about Daycare
In a stupid piece in the New York Times today we learn that children who go to daycare are most likely to become fiends later on. Or to be precise:A much-anticipated report from the largest and longest-running study of American child care has found that keeping a preschooler in a day care center for a year or more increased the likelihood that the child would become disruptive in class — and that the effect persisted through the sixth grade. What a crock. I mean, come on, man. Do we really need this sort of study? I should add that the above quote was followed immediately by the following:The effect was slight, and well within the normal range for healthy children, the researchers found. And as expected, parents’ guidance and their genes had by far the strongest influence on how children behaved. Okay. I don't even know where to begin. For the first time in the history of my blog, Crabmommy is stunned into seriousness by this absolute ridiculosity. So first they hit us with this al

The ad points out that the leasing company has set up a daycare center for its clients.Of course, daycare centers are great things. However, I doubt very much whether any of the potential clients for this leasing company would have daycare centers high on their list of requirements. After all, isn't real estate all about location, location and more location? The realtor company management probably weren't looking too closely when the ad company pitched them this idea.

Where I come from (South Africa) Valentine’s Day was always a day reserved expressly for romance. You did not give Valentines to your mother, mom-in-law, or to small people in pull-ups or their friends. You did not give Valentines blandly, to just pals, in some happy, all-inclusive goodwill gesture, bleeding the day of its lust. Valentine’s Day was all about major crushes and red-hot love.
