We went to the St. Patrick's Day parade in Cincinnati yesterday. I am half Irish so I look forward to the parade every year- and it was a great day for a parade. The St. Patrick's Day Parade is a wonderful way to learn a lot more about Cincinnati’s Irish culture- it’s a thriving, joyous community. There were several hundred entrants in the parade, among them our favorite Irish pubs (Hap's), Irish clans and, of course, plenty of politicians out stumping for the election year.We arrived late, parked a couple of blocks away and walked right up to the sawhorses. When it got windy, we just ambled over to Rockin’ Robin's for some Guinness... and later wrapped up the long day at Molly Malone's in Covington. It was really fun, and I managed to snap a lot of photos. Unfortunately, my camera b

Monday will be a big day in New York for a couple of Irish Wolfhounds, as New York's 69th Regiment, a unit of the Army National Guard, will be opening the Annual St. Patrick's Day parade with their Mascots. The Irish Wolfhound is the mascot of The Fighting 69th - officially the 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry (Mechanized) NYARNG. The Irish Wolfhounds are prominent on the Regiment's coat of arms, and it was the traits and disposition of the Irish Wolfhound that inspired the 69th Regimental Motto "Gentle When Stroked, Fierce When Provoked".On March 17, 1953, two Irish Wolfhounds were adopted by the 69th as Regimental Mascots. They were clad in green coats with the gold numerals "69", and paraded immediately to the rear of the Regimental Color Guard. There have been two wolfhounds as mascots ever

Most people who live in New York don’t go to the Thanksgiving Day Parade instead opting for the night before the parade balloon blow-up festivities. It is the tourist that goes to the parade to freeze their tush off in the mass of people, pick pockets and vagrants.
Can you tell I am not a parade person? I guess I just don’t see the fun in it. However, one of the things I do like to do is go to the night before activities and watch the professional balloon teams get everything ready. It makes for a spectacular night of photography, drinks and fun.
Now that I am a parent, the things I find fun and exciting do not necessarily equal what my son might enjoy. My wife LOVES the parade and since being a kid wants to watch the parade in person or on TV. Now that Eli is old enough to visually enjoy the event she wants to take him with her. Of course, we have friends in high places and we are lucky enough to get off the street level and into a store to look down on the parade (full

Ricky Martin was named king of the Puerto Rican Day parade and joined Mayor Michael Bloomberg for a ceremonial ribbon cutting before ascending a float that promoted the Ricky Martin Foundation, which advocates for child welfare around the world. The Puerto Rican Day Parade is an annual event in New York City celebrating the culture and people of Puerto Rico. Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony made a surprise appearance on separate floats.
UPDATE: More pics from the parade added after the cut!

flangracneig pgoramian Guy mentioned yesterday about what celebrations there are for St. Davids Day. There are a few going on, and a lot of people are doing increasingly more to celebrate (myself? I’m drinking Brains St David’s Ale), but the school kids did a parade yesterday. I took a few photos from work, and heavily edited them as not to get in trouble (you could kinda make out where I worked with the originals).
Okay, it’s hardly Mardi Gras, but a few years ago they did sod all. It’s nice that our local town is doing something - closing the main road to run a parade. There was also a few promotional buses parked outside of town - I got a Rugby Ball which I caught with a catch that’d make a Paul Collingwood Catch look ordinary. So it was a good day yesterday!
The other piece of good news was from Text Link Ads, who paid me for hosting ads on my blog.
