Album Review: Ray Davies - Working Man's Cafe (2007)
It really is surprising that Working Man’s Café is only 64 year old Ray Davies (lead singer/songwriter in the immortal Kinks) fourth official solo LP. Another surprise is how good Davies has become again through his recent solo efforts. After the Kinks disappeared following the abysmal Phobia (1993) [which was the rock-bottom point of a long slow decline following the Kinks half-decent late 70

      Alun Davies - Daydo [1972]
Alun Davies is one of the most highly respected session guitarists in the United Kingdom. A founding member, along with childhood friend Jon Marks and Nicky Hopkins, of pop-jazz group, Sweet Tuesday, in the late-1960s, Davies made his greatest mark as accompanist for British singer-songwriter Cat Stevens from 1970 until Stevens's conversion to Islam and retirement from music in 1977. Davies subsequently collaborated with ex-Small Faces vocalist, Ronnie Lane, co-writing the opening track, "One Step", and a second tune, "She's Leaving", on Lane's 1979 album, See Me. Davies launched his musical career with a duo that he shared with Marks (then known as: Michael Burchell) in 1963. The duo's sole album, Relax Your Mind, was produced by American producer Shel Talmy, best known for his work with

I just bought 2 new lip glosses by Davies Gate, an organic skin care line that I found at the local Bath and Body Works. I got the Sugar Plum (a sparkling plum color with the delicious scent and flavor of plum) and Sweet Orange (a gorgeous reddish-brown with lots of sparkle and an amazing orange flavor). Very sheer, it is a perfect top coat to add some dimension to any lip color, or, just by itself for a hint of color. Made with natural ingredients such as shea butter, jojoba oil and vitamin E, they are incredibly moisturizing as well. Only $12!!

Davies: Mr Darcy was nearly 'au naturel'
Pride and Prejudice screenwriter extraordinaire Andrew Davies took part in this week's BBC Radio 4 show Desert Island Discs, as reported by icWales. Mr Davies admits that Mr Darcy's famous 'lake' scene was intended to be even more eye-catching than it turned out to be:I wanted him to dive in with nothing on at all. But for some reason, I don't know what it was, it was decided - or he decided - that he was going to dive in with his shirt and breeches on and that gave us that scene.Davies has described the episode as "rather amusing and embarrassing". He said, "There is Darcy in a state that he would not normally want to be seen in, trying to be pleasant and polite to Elizabeth. But in fact half of England's womanhood was going crazy about his wet shirt."Mr Davies' music choices can be found here. The programme will be repeated on August 10 at 9am GMT. Dave Davies - Death Of A Clown (1967)
Although he took a largely subordinate role to his brother Ray in the Kinks, Dave's fierce guitar work and hoarse but effective background (and occasional lead) vocals were key elements of the band's appeal. Dave also occasionally wrote songs for the Kinks that showed him to be a writer of considerable skill and wit, if not up to the same level as Ray. In the late '60s, Dave made some solo singles that met with critical success in Britain, although they were unknown in the U.S. "Death of a Clown" (also included on the Kinks' Something Else LP) made number three on the British charts in 1967, and the follow-up, "Susannah's Still Alive," also did fairly well. Dave began to consider making a solo album, but after a couple other solo singles flopped, he seemed to lose heart and abandoned his plans (some unreleased solo tracks from this period turned up on the obscure Kinks bootleg Good Luck Charm). In the 1980s, Dave finally began a solo career in earnest, releasing a series of mainst

Davies Hopefully Lights A Rocket Under The Player’s Arsenals
Kevin Davies has been speaking before Saturday’s clash at The Emirates, a must-not-lose match for Arsenal and must-win match for the visitors. Quoted in the ever-so-reliable Sun, the Bolton striker’s words are the for all to see under the headline, They’re there to be had. Leaving aside the journalistic inability to pull together a grammatically correct byeline, Davies said, I think they are troubled, especially after losing at home to West Ham…That was a brilliant result for us. We felt they would have lost at Newcastle, too, so that was probably a good point for them Well, it was a good point in that it stopped the rot, for one game at least. More importantly though is the change in perception that has occurred since earlier in the season and more recently the FA Cup tie at The Emirates. No longer are teams happy to come down and sit back, ready to take a point if they can. Now Bolton believe they can win it. Since Arsenal lost their ‘bottle’ at T
