I love Harley-Davidson. Personally, I don’t have any interest in their products, but I think they’re just about the best example of branding ever. To build a whole culture - completely around your product - is an incredible accomplishment. How many other companies can claim that their customers voluntarily ink their name - permanently - into their skin? How many companies can claim that almost 5% of their revenue comes from licensing their logo? Only Harley-Davidson. I think the following ad at least partly explains this phenomenon. It is a perfect example of the way Harley-Davidson emphasizes “experience.”

Super Aguri, home of the British driver Anthony Davidson, has just revealed its financial figures for its first year in business - and they amount to a £4.5 million loss. The team, which runs on a fraction of the budget and resources employed by its biggest rivals, has been in the spotlight already this year for financial troubles after a major sponsor defaulted on payments. In the plus column, the team has reportedly been talking to new sponsors and enjoys the financial support of engine supplier Honda. Who would have thought that the all American Motorcycle Company would have decided to release a Harley-Davidson Motorcycle in Europe before it was released in America. The bike in question is the XR 1200, and is based on their Sportster model range. For those of you who know their bikes you will know that the Harley Davidson XR 1200 street bike has been based on the XR750, which is a dirt track racing bike. It is not only Europe that will see this new Hog motorcycle before the Americans, as the Middle-East and Africa will get to see the XR 1200 by the spring of 2008. We took a quick vacation this past weekend and brought the kids to Storyland in Glenn, NH. If you've never done it and have pre-teen kids, do it, it is a wonderful place. Anyway, on the way back home we stopped in Meredith, NH to have lunch at Hart's Turkey Farm (another great place). Jim Cramer has mentioned Harley-Davidson (HOG) 21 different times on Mad Money but consistency lately leaves something to be desired. Cramer's latest call on Harley-Davidson (HOG) is bearish, after riding along with bullish momentum in 2006, the stock has since languished in 2007. On November 14, 2006, Cramer called this stock a triple buy, but his latest call cited a risk-reward of 6 points down and only 4 points up. Cramer's calls on this stock so far in 2007 have lost viewers money.
