The only way to alter China's hand in Darfur
Rather than attempts at embarrassment, sanctions, threats, or a serious military intervention that China would interpret as a challenge to its control of the oil fields, the focus should be on tying diplomatic and economic efforts together coherently, to enlist China constructively. This can be done – because it has been done, in dealing with North Korea's nuclear ambitions. In 2006 the US pushed to get expanded voting rights for China in the International Monetary Fund, to reflect its weight in the world economy. The quid pro quo Treasury Secretary Paulson promoted was a "hope," as he gently put it, that more power in the IMF would motivate China to allow its artificially low currency to float to a market exchange rate (helping US and EU exports).China's currency started to float. This picture was drawn by a young Chadian boy in a camp for displaced persons in Eastern Chad. His drawing describes the attack on his village by Janjaweed militias from Sudan. On the top left hand corner of the drawing is written ‘ataque village’ (French for ‘attack of the village’). The attackers, wearing military uniforms and on camels are shooting civilians with machine guns and burning their houses. Bullets are coming from all over. Next to each civilian that is shot is the word ‘Morts’ which is the plural of ‘dead’ in French.More posts on The Road about DarfurPicture courtesy wagingpeace.info

Among other demands, Sudan wants advance notice of troop movements and to be able to shut down communications. That is handy, to be able to shut down communications...(read more)

ALERT!!! Waxploitation Presents Causes 1: Darfur
Ever since Waxploitation's Genocide in Sudan release in '03, we've really appreciated their efforts in activism. It's an underlying fact that within success, it is completely crucial to use that power to cause change (or create it). I can't stress enough how important it is to continue to educate yourself on current situations in places where we are not. I truly believe people who live in "relative" peace are called to help and serve those who do not or cannot. However a lot of us do not have time (amongst other things), but I'm telling you right now there are many ways to get involved even while sitting at your computer. On November 1st, you can download the new Waxploitation Causes 1: Darfur off of iTunes. But be sure to not wait as it will only be up there for 90 days. Why such a short time? It shows symbolism for the urgency of it's purpose, for the cause. You can also get the hardcopy if you sign-up on the site. 100% of the proceeds go to Doctors Without Borders, Save Darfu

      craziness in Darfur
Everyone, including myself, who has complained about our governments needs to be introduced to Darfur. So how bad can a region be in modern times… pretty freaking horrid. What we all should be complaining about is how can something like this be going on. How can hundreds of thousands of people get killed for being born. Everyone on this planet has now seen or heard about the craziness in Darfur… but here it is again! Below is a very, very graphic video of the things that have happened and may still be happening around the planet… this is Dafur, where they have been fighting for sometime. The sickl thing here is that its not a war where its one military against another, this is more of a tribal war that puts the government and militia against civilians. here is the Darfur Video of a man getting his limbs cut-off for more on the Darfur humanitarian crisis and genocide check this out. Senegal withdrawal troops from Darfur
Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade pushed for an immediate investigation into the deaths of 12 African Union(AU) troops who were killed in a raid on a peacekeeping base in the Darfur region of Sudan. He stated that he would remove Senegalese troops from the AU force if the investigation found the pacificators were unequipped to defend themselves. In what was called "...the heaviest loss of life and biggest attack on the African Mission," by AU spokesperson Noureddine Mezni, 30 vehicles and a force of 1,000 armed rebels raided the AU base in the town of Haskanita just after sunset on Saturday. The base was completely destroyed. One of the soldiers killed in the attack was Senegalese, while the majority were Nigerian. According to SaveDarfur.org over 100,000 people called President Bush to live up to his promise to address the General Assembly about Darfur while at the United Nations this week. President Bush told the UNGA, ‘”The United Nations must answer this challenge to conscience -and live up to its promise to promptly deploy peacekeeping forces to Darfur.” The United Nations recently approved a joint peace keeping force of United Nations forces and African Union forces to put a stop to the violence perpetrated on non-Arab Sudanese people.
