El consorcio automovilístico DaimlerChrysler suministrará 500 autobuses del modelo Mercedes-Benz Citaro a la compañía municipal rumana Regia Autonoma de Transport Bucuresti (RATB) para el transporte metropolitano en Bucarest. DaimlerChrysler informó hoy de que las primeras 50 unidades se entregarán en diciembre de este año y los 450 vehículos restantes se suministrarán hasta finales de 2009. Volkswagen to end cooperation with DaimlerChryslerVolkswagen, the German automaker wants to end the cooperation with DaimlerChrysler and the Bluetec Diesel campaign that was started in the US last year in favour of a return to its TDI branding for diesel vehicles. ‘We will begin in 2008 to offer new diesel vehicles,’ said VW spokesman Hans-Gerd Bode.The reason this caimpaign will end is that the Bluetec brand is associated first-and-foremost with Mercedes-Benz, and this thing could affect seriously VW sales in the United States.’We already have 800,000 diesel vehicles running in the US, for that reason we want to go ahead with our TDI brand,’ said Hans-Gerd Bode.

DaimlerChrysler could become “Daimler AG”After selling Chrysler, DaimlerChrysler will hold a special meeting on October 4th in Berlin, Germany to talk about the future company strategy and change the name.The meeting was previously announced but it hadn’t a fixed date.Automobilwoche says that a DaimlerChrysler senior manager told tthem that Berlin was chosen over Stuttgart because of the organizational reasons and costs.One of the proposed name for Daimler is “Daimler AG” because it doesn’t want to create a confusion with the Daimler-Benz used in the past. Daimler-Benz could be used but critics heavily objected for not using the names of both company founders, Mr. Gottlieb Daimler and Mr. Carl Benz.Dieter Zetsche, CEO of DaimlerChrysler, wants to change the name of all the factories that manufacture Mercedes-Benzcars and trucks from Daimler plants to Mercedes plants.

The latest recall comes from the folks of Auburn Hills and this one affects a huge amount of vehicles, 80,894 to be exact. Models affected are the new Jeep Wrangler and the Dodge Nitro for a faulty power module. A brief interruption of the electrical power of the engine and the instrument panel can shortly stall the vehicle. Chrysler won't charge fees for the recall service and they expect all vehicles to be serviced by the end of the week. DaimlerChrysler AG announced today that they have recalled 1650 MKII Smart Fortwos in Europe after reports of steering problems. The recall was announced after DaimlerChrysler received numerous reports that a locking ring was not installed correctly.The second-generation Fortwos went on sale in April and they have sold 12000 units since. DaimlerChrysler spokesman Hubert Kogel stated that all affected vehicles were recalled, repaired, and returned to their owners. As of about 7 AM EST, DaimlerChrysler has agreed to sell it’s struggling Chrysler arm (or at least 80.1% of it) to Cerberus for $7.4 billion. This is obviously no secret, since DaimlerChrysler has been shopping Chrysler to folks for a few months now. What is interesting is that the deal went to Cerberus, and not Magna (which has a Russian financial interest) and billionaire Kirk Kerkorian. The New York Times article bring up a few interesting points: Of the $7.4 billion, Cerberus agreed to invest $5 billion in the new Chrysler and $1.05 billion in Chrysler’s financial arm. The remaining $1.35 billion will go to DaimlerChrysler. DaimlerChrysler’s share of the capital represents a remarkable comedown for a company that paid $36 billion to acquire Chrysler in 1998, in a landmark deal that was initially hailed as a blueprint for the future of the global auto industry. DaimlerChrysler and BMW are already cooperating with General Motors on developing the well-documented two-mode full hybrid system for a variety of vehicles scheduled to go into production starting early 2008. The Chevy Tahoe/GMC Yukon and Dodge Dakota Durango will be the first recipients.
