The Privy Council Has Denied The Extradition Appeal Of Alleged Bahamian Drug Dealers To The United States
Application denied BY Privy Council: By ARTESIA DAVIS, Guardian Senior Reporter - Nassau, Bahamas: The Privy Council yesterday refused an application by alleged drug dealers Dwight and Keva Major for permission to file a challenge to a court's order that they be sent to Miami, Florida to face drug charges. Former foreign affairs minister Fred Mitchell signed a warrant of surrender last year authorizing the couple's extradition after their lawyer failed to file an appeal to the Privy Council within the required time. And now the Privy Council has declined to grant lawyer Keod Smith special permission to file an appeal to its judicial committee more than a year after the Court of Appeal's decision. Now the only thing preventing the couple's extradition is a stay that was filed in the Supreme Court to prevent Bahamian authorities from executing the warrant of surrender. Bernard Turner, the director of public prosecutions, said once the stay is removed "The law will take its

      Even Drug Dealers Have Futures
Sometimes when you talk to people word may come out wrong which may be taken the wrong way. Depending on the relationship each one of the talkers may take a sentence in a wrong way. But what about this sentence: “You need to be around better friends.” Another similar one is “Your friends are not as bright as you.” Friends, they revolve around you and one another. They are advice givers and party goers. You probably have heard multiple versions of “You are who you hang with.” This is true to some degree. Your friends are what sometimes make you as a person growing up. Surround yourself by bad influences and you become a bad person, good and positive influences, your goals become easily reached. The only quote I hate is “These ‘people’ do not have futures.” ‘People’ as in a bad person or used in a negative meaning. Why don’t they have futures? Futures are all unseen and untold, we do not know what may happen w

Why Used Cars Dealers Have The Upper Hand?
By: Glen CrawfordAll USA-based used car dealers are required to follow the guidelines contained in the 'Used Car Rule' publication, issued by the Fair Trade Commission. The only relaxation being, that if they sell less than 5 cars in a calendar year, they are not treated as used cars dealerships, and don't have to abide by these laws. All cars hold by the used car dealership and destined for sale, should identify the fact clearly on cars' or within them. This should remove any ambiguity and make the car identification process clear for the intending buyer. Of course, the dealer's location should also be clearly marked by a signage stating: 'Used Cars for Sale' or similar. At the back of the sign, used car dealers must indicate the complete name and address of the dealership, along with the contact numbers where consumers could call on for possible complaints or any concern in the future. The sign is also called a guide, as it contains all relevant information that the buyer may be

Continuing with our series on buying used cars, today let us discuss some basic tips on how to deal with car dealers. If you missed the earlier parts, here is what we have covered so far : Part 1: Classic Confusions Part 2: Understanding Vehicle History Part 3: How to Inspect a Used Car Now, let us move on to the crucial phase in used car buying - how to deal with dealers. There is a lot to write, so I will present the information in the form of a list of tips, instead of a narrative. [In the following, I am using the terms ’salesman’ and ‘dealer’ or ‘dealership’ in the same sense - they all desperately want to sell a car to you]. Tip 1 - Be very specific about your requirements: For the first few dealers we started our conversation with some lame statement like this: “We are looking for a used car - a Honda Civic or a Toyota Corolla within the price range of $9,000 to $12,000“. Although, some people might say that it’s prett

Michigan Moves to Halt Sales of Kegs to Scrap Dealers
Michigan is hiking the deposit consumers pay when buying kegs to try to head off a growing problem for brewers. The current deposit on kegs is $10 in Michigan. Brewers say they are losing thousands of kegs each year to consumers who drink the contents, but instead of taking the empties back for a deposit refund bring them to scrap metal dealers. With stainless steel scrap prices at a record $1,75 a pound, the barrels fetch more as scrap than the deposit. The new deposit in Michigan will be $30, which the state hopes is enough to keep kegs out of the scrap yard. It costs brewers $152 to replace a half-barrel keg.

Pope To Drug Dealers: You Gonna Pay
SAO PAULO - Pope Benedict traveled to a treatment facility for drug addicts near Sao Paulo, where he issued a strong warning to those who produce and traffic narcotics on the continent. He said God will call drug traffickers to account for their deeds, adding that human dignity cannot be trampled upon in this way. The pontiff asked traffickers to think about the evil that they are causing to

Pope tells drug dealers to watch their back
This story contains a couple of interesting remarks. First, "human dignity cannot be trampled upon in this way." traffickers must "reflect on the grave harm they are inflicting on countless young people and on adults from every level of society," "God will call you to account for your deeds." It's rare to hear a leader from a mainstream religion speak this way. All of us, of course, will account to God for everything we've done. Benedict reminds people of this fact to make drug dealers reflect on their behavior, but all of us should be mindful of this fact (it sure as umm, heck, reminds me). One may also contrast Benedict's alert to the possibility of future punishment with statements made by Pat Robertson wherein he takes past events and associates them with people he feels God should have punished, which is both uncharitable and the wildest, most ridiculous speculation on his part.

Buick dealers reject a RWD vehicle
Buick dealers were reportedly shown a long-wheelbase, rear-wheel drive Holden Statesman that will be sold in China next year and asked if they would like a version to sell in the U.S. market. Surprisingly, at least to us, they turned down Rick Wagoner's offer of a rear-wheel drive Buick, citing concerns that such a vehicle would cannibalize sales of the front-wheel drive Lucerne. Both vehicles are about the same size and each would be available with a V6 and V8 engine. Perhaps we're just so starved for some more rear-wheel drive romping that we balk at the idea of any brand turning down a rwd product when offered. Sure, we can see the other side of the coin. The Lucerne did sell just short of 100,000 units last year, which isn't shabby. While that number could go down were the Statesman introduced here badged as a Buick, we would guess the combined sales of two large sedans targeting different types of buyers would easily eclipse six figures. The Ricker agrees with us, and thus he i
