Sent in by MichaelI write this mostly as catharsis, not as a call to action or as a convincing case against Christianity. As I think more and more about it, I have come to realize that my life is far more valuable than I let it on to be, and that my deconversion a year and a half ago only opened me up to far more than I had ever experienced. I was raised Catholic, in a family where religion was fa
Hillary Clinton may have multitudes of middle-aged female admirers, but she has significantly less male fans. Guys are put off by her screechy voice, pathological lying, death stare, dowdy pantsuits, hellacious temper, ruthless ambition, crocodile tears, and killer cackle. But Hillary has a 71-year-old male suitor who fawns all over her, and showers her with [...]
After reading Mega Church Watch I have come to the conclusion (or maybe I did years ago) that it’s alot easier to form cynical attitudes to things that grow than applaud someone or something thats doing better than you are.
I love the fact that things grow, I don’t sit around being resentful that the tree [...]

An overwhelming majority of Americans believe that the so-called economic stimulus plan - largely consisting of tax rebates - will not boost the economy. According to a poll conducted by CNN/Opinion Research Corp., a whopping 82% of Americans believe the stimulus package won’t work. This is up sharply from 70% of Americans who [...]
As some of you may know it was National Compliments Day last Wednesday, my second favourite day after Christmas, and I went to school ready to fire (sincere) compliments at everyone who crossed my path. It didn't go down as well as I'd hoped... My first complimentee was very graceful in accepting my compliment, blushing and even admitted to being on the verge of tears at my kindness (how sweet, right?). But it was all downhill from then on.I was told that I shouldn't give compliments to each in a big group of people, as there was a risk of the receivers 'comparing compliments' (e.g. "she didn't say that I was amazing, I thought we were supposed to be friends..."); my compliments were sometimes greeted with a blank look, a.k.a. "why the hell are you talking to me?"; and one person even aske
I've calmed down a little, but there is still a little steam rising from my ears having just seen yet another big decision go against us and having watched Liverpool bend the rules on their way to another very undeserved draw. I won't deny that we were poor for the first twenty five minutes or so, we were; however Liverpool didn't create much, and the Arsenal machine did click into gear on about
A lot of times, people look down on cynicism as some kind of personality defect. We are taught to not look for the wrong in everything and just trust things to fall into place. However, can such an attitude lead us to become naive. I for one think that being a little cynical is good for you. Journalism, News, Law Enforcement, and countless other careers and facets of life are built on cynicism. Would we really want a naive lawyer representing us? We need to stop being so naive in many parts of our lives. Embrace cynicism a little...you'll like it.
There shall be no explanations for my one week absence. The 107 unread posts mentioned in my previous entry has now reached 224. I will be reading them as soon as I finish writing this. And For the record, god help anyone who has written nonsense stuff on their blog. You shall be ranted upon for wasting my time. Lets just start now. "So, what are you doing this valenti.." Those were the last words spoken by a guy before I watched his head roll down to the floor.Showing signs of indifference I wiped the blood off my sword and continued my mission. What is my mission? Oh its simple. Has two objectives. Objective 1.Anyone who decides to enquire how I am spending my time today gets their head sliced. What I do in my personal time is my business. Leave me alone with my yanni albums. I have no in
Dear Schopenhauer's Ghost,I'm having a problem with my social life. Every time I find a boy I like, I get bored. Then I have to be mean to make him go away. The problem is, when he does go away, I get sad and lonely. The cycle repeats itself over and over again. What should I do? NoelDear Noel,Your problem is not unusual. Life is a pendulum that swings between frustration and boredom. You must realize that life is very bad and was accidentally created by an omniscient demon intent upon tormenting us. Try listening to Wagner. It will help you forget you are alive.Sincerely,Schopenhauer's GhostDear Schopenhauer's Ghost,You're an existential do-do head. I don't care if there is any truth to any thing you ever wrote or said. It makes me sad and therefore can't be true. I prefer Ayn Rand any time of day! So there, you scumbag!RachelDear Rachel,I do not listen to critics. Anyone who differs from my point of view is dumb. Even now, while I serve Satan in hell's dark catacombs, I am un
Recently, a group of talented musicians did the impossible and breathed new life into this aficionado’s decrepit anthology of old favourites. The name of this soulful bunch is the Armchair Cynics and their gift is arena-filling sound, evocative song writing and an edgy yet captivating presentation. Not only is their music spellbinding when heard over the airwaves but heard live it is awesome and I’m not the only one who shares this sentiment. Included in the Armchair Cynic’s list of fans is Nickelback frontman, Chad Kroeger. Kroeger and business partner Jonathin Simkin have signed the Cynics to a record deal with their label, 604 Records. This union gave rise to their sold-out EP titled “Killing the Romance”.Simkin told me that neither him nor Kroeger could overlook the Cynic’s ability to write first-rate songs that are not only melodic but also richly layered. That wasn’t their only alluring quality.“Initially we signed the band to a demo deal to make sure that everyone
As motorcycle engines rev loudly, hundreds of Jakartans clad in brightly-coloured T-shirts emblazoned with the face of one of the candidates vying to govern Indonesia's congested capital file into an arena.Supporters of Fauzi Bowo, currently the deputy to Jakarta governor Sutiyoso, dance and wave large red, green, purple and white flags as party leaders shout slogans from a crowded stage. But instead of celebrating a milestone in the country's young democracy, the lively gathering masks the old-fashioned machine politics that has sapped enthusiasm for Jakarta's first-ever gubernatorial elections set for this week.Opinion polls predict a low turnout, as voters doubt that either Bowo or his opponent, Adang Daradjatun, can fulfil lofty campaign promises to ease Jakarta's traffic gridlock, clean up choking pollution and improve access to education and healthcare.Indonesia News Blog: http://indosnesos.blogspot.com
I am utterly cynical and untrusting of just about every single company I do business with. It's the big companies that have ruined me. All their fine print, twisty service agreements, bundled restricted packages, and outright lies have left me scrambling to look for the asterisk. The asterisk on all "Free!*" deals that read in fine print on the bottom, "* free with annual contract, see form 293-D
I saw this at Cynical-C Blog.It shows a couple of booster rockets falling to earth after they detach from the space shuttle. There's a video camera on one of the boosters, and you get to watch it fall all the way down to the ocean. If you can get past the first minute of pretty dizzying footage, it's quite remarkable. I especially like the final few seconds before / during touchdown in the ocean. It kind of reminds me of a previous clip. From the YouTube upload:"Nasa released a compilation of footage from various cameras attatched to both solid rocket boosters. Nasa TV showed all views from accention to decention. But this compilation shows the most dramatic and interesting views captured. It is still primarily a single shot from low earth orbit down to earths oceans surface."
