      Who’s the real culprit?
By: Level13 Below are some of the versions we read about recently on the reasons behind the relentless price increase of commodities. VERSION 1: Speculators In the current global economic slowdown, it would be fundamentally reasonable to assume that consumption has gone down and prices have weakened. This indeed is the case for lead, zinc and nickel. Copper [...]

      The Culprit
For several weeks I have been lax about the foods that AJ eats, mainly because I want to experiment and allow him to eat more foods. Unfortunately, it has backfired on me. Some foods he is doing great with (like Amaranth flour) but others, like peppers, not so much.We know that AJ has banana and oat allergies because of allergy testing that we conducted just over two years ago with a wonderful pul

Breast Cancer Cure - Could Dairy Be The Culprit?
Professor Jane Plant eliminated dairy products from her diet and cured herself of breast cancer. She recommends all women do the same. But is there more to this story? Could the crux lie in the differences between pasteurized milk and raw milk? More: continued here

The Hair Loss Culprit: Meet DHT
An estimated 85 million men and women in the United States are suffering from hereditary hair thinning. That's nearly 1 out of every 3 people. Yet the cause is no longer a mystery. Science has at last singled out the culprit.Meet DHT, or dihydrotestostrone. DHT is a hormonal byproduct. It is produced from testosterone, a male hormone present in both men and women in different amounts, with the help of the enzyme 5-alpha reductase. DHT causes hair loss by binding itself to the hair follicles, retarding their growth and cutting them off from the blood supply. DHT literally shrinks the hair follicles, thinning hair more and more until baldness results.Scientists have determined, presumably through long and laborious hours of counting, that we all have, on average, 100,000 hairs on our heads.

Global Warming: The latest culprit — clean air!
Blogger’s Note: According to the European mainstream, global warming is caused by evil Americans driving SUVs. The sole salvation of the world lies in establishing a barter system of carbon dioxide indulgences… and sorting household trash all the way to Tuesday. But a recent study is pointing at other culprits: Birkenstock-wearing European greens and environmentalists with [...]

Antarctic volcanoes identified as a possible culprit in glacier melting
n an article published Sunday on the Web site of the journal Nature Geoscience, Hugh Corr and David Vaughan of the British Antarctic Survey report the identification of a layer of volcanic ash and glass shards frozen within an ice sheet in western Antarctica. This is the first time we have seen a volcano beneath the ice sheet punch a hole through the ice sheet in Antarctica, Vaughan said. Volcanic heat could still be melting ice to water and contributing to thinning and speeding up of the Pine Island glacier, which passes nearby, but Vaughan said he doubted that it could be affecting other glaciers in western Antarctica, which have also thinned in recent years. Most glaciologists, including Vaughan, say that warmer ocean water is the primary cause of thinning.Antarctic volcanoes identi

Sun Damage: the Main Culprit to Skin Problems
The vast majority of our skin problems, including so-called laugh lines, crow feet's, and wrinkles, are due to what dermatologists call "photo aging," or damage caused by exposure to the ultraviolet (UV) rays produced by the sun. Compare the condition of the skin of on your face to the condition of the skin on any other part of your body that is usually by clothing. The difference is striking. The skin that has rarely seen the light of day will look decades younger. UV light is the reason. Damage from UV light is cumulative and can take years before it is apparent. Generally, by the time we reach our mid-thirties the long-term effects of UV exposure start to become visible in the form of the fine lines, wrinkles, and telltale changes in skin tone and color. No one is immune.Do not assume just because you are not a regular sun bather or you do not spend a lot of time at the pool or on the tennis court that you are safe. Most of us get a heavy dose of UV rays when we are going ab

      Nurin autopsy photo culprit arrested
KUALA LUMPUR: The police have identified the culprit who posted the autopsy photographs on the Internet of eight year-old rape and murder victim Nurin Jazlin Jazimin. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan, however, declined to say when or where the suspect was arrested. “You will know him when we bring him to court and charge him,” he told reporters at a Hari Raya event at the Police Training College last night. Nurin Jazlin went missing on Aug 20 after going out to a night market alone near her home in Wangsa Maju here. Her naked body was found stuffed in a sports bag near a shoplot in Petaling Utama on Sept 20. We are still investigating.” In the 7.30pm incident, lance corporals Jaya Balan Krishn

Calif. sees sprawl as warming culprit
We thought this was some very interesting news which was posted today by usatoday.com SAN FRANCISCO — California is pioneering what could be the next battleground against global warming: filing suit to hold cities and counties accountable for greenhouse gas emissions caused by poorly planned suburban sprawl. The unprecedented action is being closely watched by states that have taken aggressive steps to combat climate change — including New York, Massachusetts and Washington. California Attorney General Jerry Brown has sued San Bernardino County, the USA’s largest in land area and one of the fastest growing, for failing to account for greenhouse gases when updating its 25-year blueprint for growth.   IN ‘INLAND’ EMPIRE: 25-year growth plan needs revisions, critics say “It’s ground-breaking. California is just leading the way for other states and jurisdictions that will ultimately follow,” says Richard Frank of the Center for Environmental Law

Experts don’t believe melamine was the real culprit in tainted pet food
I picked up a copy of this month’s Animal Wellness Magazine to read an article that will completely shock you. “Neither melamine nor aminopterin are likely to be the real cause of the illness – the symptoms of toxicity don’t match either one,” says Dr. Jean Hofve, a nutritional expert and former advisor to the American Animal Feed Control Officials (AAFCO). “Toxicology data on melamine suggests that it can cause kidney stones and other chronic effects, but acute renal failure does not really accord with that. Some are calling

Photocopiers: A New Culprit for Identity Theft -- Especially During Tax Season?
Photocopiers: A New Culprit for Identity Theft -- Especially During Tax Season? Consumers have seen lots of identity theft warnings recently, but one potential danger that almost no one is aware of is the threat posed by photocopiers.Last year alone, more than 9.9 million Americans were victims of identity theft, a crime that cost them roughly $5 billion. Photocopiers??? Yes, photocopiers have become a potential source for identity fraud because most digital photocopiers manufactured during the past five years have disk drives that are used to reproduce the documents. This means that when you photocopy documents -- including tax returns, for example -- you could be making yourself vulnerable to identity theft. If the copier's hard disk is not protected with encryption or a functioning (and effective) overwrite mechanism, and if a scammer gains access to the hard drive, experts agree that the information that was photocopied could become a tool for identity theft. Some man

      Coffee the Culprit?
This morning I woke to a dreary, fog-ridden morning and I was determined it wouldn't get me down. I'm so used to the sunny days that the gloomy ones send my mood plummeting. When you have more than 300 days of sun, I guess you can get pretty spoiled. But I opened the blinds, made pancakes (Nas' favorite) and decided there was no way I could wake up without a cup of joe. Typically I don't
