      Daunte Culpepper Signs With Detriot.
After a long hiatus from football former monster QB Daunte Culpepper has decided to make a comeback and play with the Detroit Lions. The 2 year deal is in the middle of being finalized pending Culpepper can pass his physical, sources say that the deal can be completed any day now. The lions are the NFL`s worst team yet again, this year starting the season off a stunning 0-8 and having backup QB D

Patriots Stumble Against Dolphins As Culpepper sits in a Barker Lunger
Keeping with the theme of "Patriots Miss Tom Brady", this weeks match up with the fish was especially disheartening. We all know that Matt Cassells is no Brady, but did we think that the defense would falter in this manner after a decent game against the Jets last week? Patriots die hard fans need to accept the fact that Tedy Bruschi is done in the NFL. He hasn't had game in nearly three years. L

Is Daunte Culpepper a Good Fantasy Football Draft Pick?
With the Oakland Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell still unsigned, it is pretty certain that Daunte Culpepper will be the starting quarterback this year...probably for most of the season. We all know that Culpepper was once rated right next to Peyton Manning for fantasy football starting quarterbacks. But last year he struggled with the Miami Dolphins, partly due to a lack of mobility. Culpepper clearly had not fully recovered from his knee injury. This year marks another fresh start for Culpepper. However, it most likely won't result in better statistics for Culpepper. Oakland's offensive line is a mess, and they lost talent when Randy Moss was traded to the New England Patriots. Keep Culpepper in mind as a deep sleeper, but don't expect much out of him in Oakland. The team is simply not good enough to perform.

To Draft or Not to Draft: Daunte Culpepper
Everyone loves an underdog. It's a statement that, despite our cynicism, we here at TJI Fantasy Sports cannot disagree with. So we turn our attention to perhaps the biggest underdog of the upcoming NFL season, Raiders QB Daunte Culpepper. We were really pulling for Daunte in Miami. He seemed to be the perfect fit for a team seeking an heir to one of the greatest of all time, Dan Marino. Alas, it wasn't meant to be, as Culpepper's injured knee kept him on IR for all but the first four games. Now, with almost two years between Culpepper and his last quality game, he's taking a shot at winning the job in Oakland. They wouldn't bring him in if he didn't have a shot, right? Josh McCown is certainly capable of keeping the QB's seat warm for 8 games before JaMarcus Russell is ready. Something is afoot in Raider Nation and TJI thinks that it's time to pull for Daunte once again. How great would it be to see #8 throwing TD bombs like it was 2004 again? While we agree that it would be the s

      Raiders Expected to Sign Culpepper
A reported newspaper said the Oakland Raiders will sign free agent and former Viking and Dolphin QB Daunte Culpepper to a one-year deal, according to a source known with the situation.  This would be a good move for the Raiders because as I stated in Saturday's July 28 article, "Raiders QB Russell to start Week 1?” this team does not have a "worthy” starting QB to go in there for Russell no matter how long he holds out. Now they do, as they are expected to pick up the former Central Florida QB Culpepper. Culpepper should be the favorite to be under center against Detroit at home for Week 1. Oakland has been pleased with his workouts and so far he is a "go” in terms of his questioned, and often speculated health. Culpepper has a strong arm and still has some mobility left in him. He is a major upgrade over McCown and Walter. He should be able to keep the seat warm for Russell when he is ready to start. Culpepper will be a mentor for Russell, as they share a similar style

Culpepper heading to Raiders for workout (AP)
NAPA, Calif. (AP) — Free agent quarterback Daunte Culpepper will work out for the Oakland Raiders on Tuesday, two weeks after being released by the Miami Dolphins. Culpepper held a private workout for a member of the Raiders’ personnel department in Florida on Monday. The 30-year-old quarterback did well enough there to persuade the team to fly him out to California for an additional workout. “Anytime that we have a chance to investigate something that can help our team win, were more…

Jags no longer interested in Culpepper
“We said we’d investigate it and we have,” Del Rio said. “My gut is it’s not going to be a fit for us and for him.”The biggest sticking point seems to be that Culpepper wants to be the starter, and as the Jaguars have been saying all along, he would come to Jacksonville as a backup to Byron Leftwich. Fins had chance to trade Culpepper
HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — The Miami Dolphins had an opportunity to trade quarterback Daunte Culpepper, but negotiations stalled and delayed the release he sought.   The Dolphins acquired Kansas City quarterback Trent Green six weeks ago, making Culpepper expendable. “Immediately, there was an opportunity to trade him — immediately,” coach Cam Cameron said Friday at a charity golf event. “There was the opportunity that was going to happen quickly. Tampa Bay Meets with Former Dolphins QB Culpepper
Evidently still not happy with the teams quarterback position, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are jumping into the ring as a possible suitor for former Vikings and Dolphins quarterback Daunte Culpepper. On Thursday head coach Jon Gruden, GM Bruce Allen, and personnel executive Doug Williams met with Culpepper, who is free to sign with anyone after being released from the Dolphins on Tuesday. The Bucs have five QB’s already on their roster, even though one of them, Jake Plummer, has stated he is retired even though he has yet to file the paperwork with the league. Jeff Garcia, who signed with the team in the offseason from Philly, is the starter, and behind him you have Bruce Gradkowski, Chris Simms and Luke McCown. Gruden had said in the past that the door was still open for Plummer to come back if he wanted, as it almost seems in a perfect world for Gruden he would want Plummer and Garcia as his #1 and #2 QB’s. So now the attention turns to Culpepper, who has been waiting for hi

Ravens Back on the List for Culpepper’s Services
Sources are now saying you can add another team to the list that may have some interest in former Vikings and Dolphins QB Daunte Culpepper. That team is the Baltimore Ravens, who at 13-3 a season ago realize that the window of opportunity for a major Super Bowl run may be closing as 2007 closes in. The Ravens already have Steve McNair as a starter, but after McNair, who has had his share of injuries over the years, they have Kyle Boller, who is a free agent in 2008, and not all that good anyway. If the Ravens want to make sure to have a decent insurance policy behind McNair, it may behoove them to go out and grab Culpepper. Daunte himself says he is 100 percent, and is ready to fight to make a roster and again make an impact in the league. Baltimore was on the Culpepper short list sometime ago, but then when the back and forth stall began the Dolphins and Daunte, it seemed like the Ravens were off the list. Now though they may be right back on there with Culpepper being a free man and

      Dolphins release Culpepper
After four games, 134 pass attempts and $8 million spent, the Dolphins and quarterback Daunte Culpepper have finally ended their 16-month relationship. Reported by Tim Reynolds, South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Associated Press  <<<Hotwire>>> Its hard to believe that he’s only 3 years removed from a career high 4700 passing yards and 39 touchdowns. When healthy, he’s been an elite quarterback with a rocket arm and scrambling ability. However, he’s not been the same ever since his knee injury. He went for surgery again in 2006 after attempting to play early in the season. He’s an average quarterback if you take away his scrambling ability. He has thrown 8 TD’s against 15 INTs the past two seasons. This year Culpepper is nothing more than a backup QB and isn’t worth an early roster spot on your fantasy team.

Culpepper Ruling Reaffirms Propriety of YSPs
The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals has reaffirmed its position in a 12-year-old legal battle that lender-paid fees to mortgage brokers are proper unless consumers can prove the amount is excessive. “In summary, the borrowers bear the burden of demonstrating, with specific evidence, that the total remuneration that their brokers received was unreasonable … in light of market standards and the subjective facts of their mortgage transactions,” the circuit judges ruled in Culpepper v. Irwin Mortgage Corp. The appeals court stressed that the courts should use the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s two-part test in evaluating yield-spread premiums, which are paid by the wholesale lender to the broker at closing. This test requires a case-by-case inquiry into each mortgage transaction, the appeals court said in affirming a lower court decision to decertify class action status in the Culpepper case. The 11th Circuit Court had upheld class certification in 2001,

Culpepper Hearing Against Dolphins Set for Today
Today is the day that Dolphins quarterback Daunte Culpepper has been waiting for. Today he goes in front of arbitrator John Feerick and states his case on why he feels the Miami Dolphins should release him. Culpepper, who is his own agent, will be represented as well by NFL Players Association general counsel Richard Berthelsen. As of right now it is not known who will represent the Dolphins in the case. Culpepper would like the Dolphins to release him, so he is free to find work with another team. The Dolphins have been trying to trade Culpepper, but have found no takers. Culpepper was told by Miami after the trade to get Trent Green that he no longer fits in their plans. The QB had declared before being told about the Fins plans that he was excited and was looking forward to going at it in camp with Green to find out who the QB of the Dolphins would be. Culpepper attended a mini-camp after his knee was declared good to go by a doctor, but walked off the field when he was not getting

      Date set for Culpepper hearing
Daunte Culpepper's hearing in which he'll try to break free from Miami will be held June 29th in New York according to Espn. The two sides will present their cases to veteran arbitrator John Feerick, the same arbitrator that ruled on the Steve McNair case last season.I really wish that Miami would just release Culpepper and get it over with. The conventional wisdom is to try and trade him and get at least something in return, but it's gotten to the point where I just want them to let him go.Daunte clearly doesn't want to restructure his contract, so trading him won't be easy. The fact that he's not allowed to practice also doesn't help his preparation for the season much, so the faster he can get signed somewhere and start practicing, the better for him. Also, the longer this drags on, the bigger the chance at locker room problems. I can imagine Daunte being upset, expressing his disgust to other players and maybe dividing the team a bit.So yes, I hope this somehow works out for

Daunte Culpepper - Some Final Thoughts
Let's get one thing straight, this whole Daunte Culpepper debate started when Zach said to Culpepper, "you aren't good anymore." I still find this to be an absolutely outrageous statement. How anyone can possibly say that, when Culpepper hasn't been healthy in 2 years, is beyond me. It's simply irresponsible to go around throwing statements around that are essentially based on nothing. No one here is arguing that Culpepper is going to return to the dominance he enjoyed three seasons ago. Yes, he will be playing as a fraction of his former self. But when the original whole is as good as it was in 2004, thats still a pretty damned good quarterback. It is absolutely ridiculous, especially in this day and age, to give up on a player SOLELY because of injuries. And at 30 years old, you can't even use age as a factor. The teams I listed were simply teams that have a quarterback that IS NOT AS GOOD AS DAUNTE CULPEPPER. It has nothing to do with money (which the conversation wasnt

Culpepper working hard to get released
With Trent Green in town, the Dolphins are trying to trade Daunte Culpepper but Culpepper is refusing to be traded. He does not want to restructure his contract and he's asking the team to just release him. The Sun-Sentinel has a copy of what Culpepper handed out at his locker today...He basically thanks the people that have supported him and laments that the situation did not work out better. The statement ends with him asking Miami to what is fair, and to release him.I am now waiting for the Dolphins management to do what is right and fair by granting my release so that I can find a team that will appreciate my talent and love for the game of football. I do not want to cause any disruption while I wait, so I will only be at the facility in order to run and lift. What happened yesterday in the team meeting and on the field was unfair to both me and my teammates. The NFLPA legal department is reviewing the situation and Gene Upshaw has encouraged me to continue to be patient and profe

Stalemate Continues Between Culpepper and Dolphins
Things are getting worse for the Dolphins in terms of the Daunte Culpepper saga. Saturday’s Miami Herald reported that the Dolphins spent Thursday calling around for interest in Culpepper, and basically found none. The early reports had the Rams, Jags and maybe even the Packers having interest in Culpepper, who was medically cleared to practice, but didn’t as the Dolphins told him not to and he left the field. Clupepper, who acts as his own agent, has been vocal in stating he wants to be released from the Dolphins, and will not accpet a trade to any other team. The paper was quoted as saying: ”I will not agree to any trade,” Culpepper said. “If I’m traded, ultimately my contract has to be restructured and I will not restructure it.” Everyone knows that with making $5.5 mil this season, no team is going to take on Culpepper at that price, so a new deal with have to be in place with a team that will deal for the QB. Daunte did say that he had a f

Culpepper joins "As the QB World Turns"
It was just a couple weeks ago when Daunte Culpepper talked about how he didn't worry about things like new QB's coming in. That was shortly after the Fins used a 2nd round pick on a QB.So let's recap the last week for C-Pep. He was given the green light to take his knee on the practice field on Monday. Tuesday those trade talks for Trent Green finally came to a head. As no surprise Daunte was told on Wednesday he was going to be traded. Culpepper, who doesn't worry about things like that, told the team on Thursday he would like to be released. He isn't going to go easy. Although understanding about the business side of the situation, Culpepper feels slighted by the Dolphins here. He makes a very good point in our opinion addressing it on Thursday."I must say the impatience the organization displayed in both encouraging me to rush back on the field last year and then rushing me out the door this year is disappointing," Culpepper said. "However, I understand that they have the right

DAVIE, Fla. — Trent Green’s first practice with the Miami Dolphins was apparently Daunte Culpepper’s finale in South Florida.   Frustrated by the team’s decision to let him only participate in individual drills, Culpepper walked off the practice field — accompanied by a member of Miami’s security staff — about an hour into Friday’s start of a three-day minicamp and vowed that he’d block the Dolphins’ plans to trade him. And there's my Culpepper answer
After word came in last night that Miami finally acquired Trent Green, it made me wonder what was going to happen with Daunte Culpepper. Well, today Miami has let Culpepper know that his future is not with the Dolphins. They would like to trade me in order to `get something for me,' '' Culpepper said in an e-mail to The Miami Herald on Wednesday morning. ``However, it is my position that I have already been down that road and I am not interested in being tradedDaunte might not want to be traded, but I wonder which team would trade for him right now. Would the Raiders take a chance on him and maybe let him keep the seat warm for JaMarcus Russell? The Falcons could have some interest now that Mike Vick is in trouble but they already signed Joey Harrington and the Culpepper/Harrington combo was as good as being kicked in the jaw by a horse during their Miami tenure...I'll admit. I was hoping that Miami would give C-Pep another chance, especially since he was finally cleared to practice

Culpepper Says He’s Ready to Compete For QB Spot in Miami
Now that the longest awaited trade in the history of the league is over, the Miami Dolphins are ready to move ahead and one of the first things they will have to do is decide on the future of quarterback Daunte Culpepper. The former Viking QB stated on Tuesday that he has medical clearance and is ready to compete for the starting QB job, this the same day the team finally got the man that appears to be the QB that will start 2007 under center - Trent Green. Culpepper, who has been unable to do much with his knee, is finally ready to give it a go according to an email he sent out, and says that he will go at it in an offseason practice today, as well as this weekend’s final mini-camp. The QB also wrote that he welcomes the competition of Green and is ready to go head to head with the former Chiefs signal caller. “My position on Trent is that the Dolphins should get the best players that they can and let them compete for the starting job,” Culpepper wrote in the email.

Culpepper says he's ok, Green still frontrunner for position
Armando Salguero is convinced that Trent Green will be Miami's starter next season and that Culpepper's days are done, and he does make some very valid points. Green has a contract in place with Miami, has said that he wants to be in Miami, has his KC qb coach (Terry Shea) in Miami, has worked with Cam Cameron in Washington and knows this offense better than any qb that's currently on the roster. So, it would make sense that Green will be the starter come August, and that Culpepper will be taking snaps somewhere else. Culpepper in return has been saying that he feels no pain in his knee and that he will be fine come training camp.Culpepper is positive about his progression and I really want him to get back on the football field, but I'll believe it when I see it. Last season he also claimed that he was fine, but he rushed it and the results were as catastrophic as my last haircut. So, even though he says he's improving, I want to see him evade a pass rush and make a decent throw to
