I have to be honest, this is exactly a beef stew recipe, in fact I’m not sure what it is. My ex husband concocted it way too long ago, and my kids have always eaten it all up. I have added a little here and there, but for the most part, it’s still his.

Question: how often do you use your crockpot, and do you think people should use them more because of the economy?
I do try to use my crockpot every weekend. Especially when we are on a tighter budget. If I know there is a meal in the crockpot, we are not tempted [...]
I'm an 'early bird' and often wake at 4:00 or 4:30 wishing I could go back to sleep but my brain turns on 100 mph and I find myself antsy and ready to start the day. Because of this I'm often enjoying coffee in the kitchen with the patio door open before the sun rises... and it's also because of this I can already tell the mornings are a tiny bit cooler and that Fall won't be too many weeks away
My crockpot is often my life savor in the summer months. It’s just too hot to turn on the oven or do any stovetop cooking. So the crockpot (also known as a slow cooker) is the appliance I turn to. Of course I also love to grill, but for those days I don’t feel like [...]
When I prepared Manipuri khichdi for our lunch, I was thinking about serving Pickle and Yogurt as sides. But, Anthony mentioned that Khichdi will go very well with Manipuri Ootti. I got interested and decided to prepare Ootti to serve with Manipuri Kichdi. Like adding fuel to fire, the ingredients for Ooti [...]
I started thinking about the Seven sister states of India when Bhags announced the event RCI - North East India. I tried very hard to recall something about North East India. All I could recall was my Geography teacher reducing 2 points from my total points for my map locating skills. She [...]

At this time of year, I often make barbecued, shredded (or “pulled”) beef in the crock pot to serve on buns. Aside from the fact that it tastes good and fits well with barbecue-y occasions like Memorial Day, Fourth of July and summer potlucks, I like crock-pot pulled beef because round steak is cheap and I can cook for a crowd without blowing our food budget for the week. Also, using the crock-pot lets you go outside and play while the food cooks, and doesn’t heat up your house when its already feeling like Calcutta in August. (Actually, I have never been in Calcutta at any time of the year, but I have a vivid imagination).
I have made this many times before, using a bottle of barbecue sauce and a large, hunk of red meat from which I divest the greatest possible amount of fat before cooking. I have used both top round, round steak, and various other tough, inexpensive cuts of meat for this. Sometimes, I make the barbecue sauce from scratch using the same recipe I
This is a very easy, very economical meal.I stock up on chicken thighs and drumsticks when they are on sale. And I actually always have these ingredients on hand.I say thai inspired because it is in no way authentic, but the taste is reminiscent of thai. After all,I have 4 boys,I can't be too exotic.LOL! This one I will make again.I did use chucky peanut butter and omitted the peanuts altogether. When the chicken was done I removed the thighs to a seperate dish and shredded the chicken and put it back into the crockpot for a few minutes to let the chicken soak up the juice.I served the chicken with yummy carrots and coconut cilantro rice.Thai Chicken (crockpot)courtesy of Allrecipes 8 boneless skinless chicken thighs3/4 cup salsa1/4 cup peanut butter1 teaspoon ginger2 tablespoons soy sauce2 teaspoons lime juicePut all ingredients in crock pot on low for 6-8 hours.Garnish with cilantro, scallions, and peanuts.Serve with rice or noodles
by Audrey OkanekoYou'll find ten tips in this article to make your crockpot cooking come out perfect every time.In today’s busy world, more and more people are using crockpots to prepare the families evening meal. I know some folks who have two crockpots. They use the large one to prepare meats or poultry and they use the small one to prepare side dishes and desserts. There are many tips to make using your crockpot even easier:1. Don’t lift the lid to take a peak. I have read over and over that if you do lift the lid, you need to add 20 minutes cooking time.2. Vegetables and potatoes take longer to cook in a crockpot. It’s always suggested that you place potatoes and vegetables on the bottom, layering the meat and sauces on the top.3. Regular milk can curdle in the crockpot due to long cooking times. Consider using either canned milk, or adding the milk during the last 30 minutes of cooking. Since you’ll be lifting the lid, add a bit of cooking time to the recipe directions.4.
This week will be a week of quick, easy crockpot meals. We have lots going on in the evenings with boy scouts, baseball and meetings,so easy is my mantra. Last night I made an easy chicken drumstick pasta. The boys love chicken legs and I had a surplus of canned tomatoes so I dumped it all in the crockpot and served the sauce over pasta topped with the chicken drumsticks.I received weird looks from the biys and my husband, but after they tried it they decided they liked it. Next time I will add boneless thighs to the mix (for me) as well as the drumsticks. This meal was super easy for the crockpot and the kids really enjoyed it.Crockpot Chicken Drumstick Pasta1 package pasta (any kind)8 chicken legs (or thighs,or a mix)1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce1/4 cup merlot1 large onion, diced2 cloves garlic, minced1 tsp italian seasoningsalt and peppercelery salt3 carrots, peeled and diced1 zucchini, peeled and dicedolive oilPrepare pasta according to packageb directi
by: tony buel Crockpots vary but the low setting is typically around 100 degrees and its high setting is around 300 degrees. Knowing this, it is fairly easy to convert most recipes for use in your slow cooker. Some adjusments to cooking times will be a judgement call on your part, but some simple guidelines should help. Just follow a few simple rules and you're on your way. You should decrease the liquid since it does not boil away in a crockpot. Add cheeses and other milk product towards the end of your cooking since they tend to break down if they are cooked for too long. Brown any ground beef before adding to the crockpot. It will taste better and have better texture this way. Add rice and noodles at the end of your cooking as well. They will turn mushy if they are cooked too long. You can cook these separately and then combine them when it's time to serve. Add your spices at the end. If a stovetop recipe calls for 15-30 minutes, the crockpot should cook it for 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 hrs
by: tony buelIn my 'un-biased' opinion, the crockpot / slow cooker is one of the most convenient and easy to use appliances in my kitchen. The time savings features of the slow cooker and the delicious dinners that have resulted more than offset any minor drawbacks. Before I list my top reasons why the crockpot is the most useful appliance in any kitchen, I will list a few of the areas where it does not perform as well. - Large cuts of meat such as boneless prime rib or leg of lamb are still best when oven roasted. - Except for stews and chowders, the slow cooker does not cook fish very well. - The slow cooker collects a lot of the juices since the steam does not escape during cooking and these juices can become diluted and watery, which can affect the flavoring of the food. - If not careful, a slow cooker can overcook food -especially some of the more tender meats and poultry. These drawbacks are relatively minor compared to the positives which I will list now. - The slow cooker nee
