Hermit Crabs peddle that distinctive Glaswegian twee pop sound, nothing sounds overcooked and the ingredients are organic in nature. ‘Saw You Dancing’, the bands debut, came out late last year and includes the chipper ‘Friend's Folk Festival’. Best bait for crabs
Best bait for crabsI know a few really serious crab anglers who guard their secret crab bait or concoction with their life. I have even heard of serious fights between crab anglers over which crab bait is better than the other and it all seems a bit silly really. To understand what makes a top quality crab bait you need to understand the feeding habits of crabs and, in particular, what actually makes up their main diet. I have recently written a post titled what do crabs eat, which might be a good place to start. For those that want to skip ahead without reading the main points are that crabs feed mainly on plant matter and alive or fresh dead animal matter. That doesn't mean you should start adding dead wood to your crab nets just yet though! Contrary to popular belief crabs are not m

      What do crabs eat
I love catching crabs and enjoy eating them even more, but when other crab anglers get wind of your success they always want to know what bait you are using in your crab pot. I get asked about crab eating habits fairly often so I thought it might be worth writing a little post about what crabs actually eat. What do crabs eatThere are many different types of crabs including the spider crab, hermit crab, mud crab, blue crab, horseshoe crab, fiddler crab and sand crab, just to name a few. Even though there are hundreds of different species all the research suggests that they have a very similar diet.It might surprise people that about half of a crabs diet is plant matter, but that doesn't mean you should start putting rotting wood into your crab pots just yet. The other half of a crabs diet co

We are scuttling off to the side, scuttling away from rural life in Wyoming, scuttling on to new horizons, bigger places, greener pastures and so forth. Forget the pastures. We are done with pastures. We are looking for bright lights and urban sparkle. So we are moving to CHEYENNE.Kidding.But we are moving. This has all been going down for quite a while. And yet I have kept mum about it? Why? Because I am scared that my new move will make me happy. And when I'm happy I don't have anything to write about.Thankfully, on further reflection it has become clear that our new home will yield its own share of mock-worthy targets. And thankfull

Misty Fjords - Bears, Crabs and Eagles on the African Queen (Alaska, USA)
I slurp the last vestiges of meat from a fresh (and I mean fresh) crab claw, feet up and reclining back as the last energies of the sun expire into the mist of this Alaskan wonderland. The silence is only broken by the gentle lapping of water into the towering granite walls and against the boats sides. A lone brown bear continues grazing on the nutritious sedges and grasses of the foreshore. Bald eagles soar overhead, eyes scanning for an evening snack and for their voracious chicks. Harbor seals maintain a cautious watch over the whole scene. The mist settles lower over the fjord like a protective and warming blanket, dimming any remaining light from the near-full moon and the setting sun. Even the brightest stars would not twinkle tonight.Earlier, sea planes galore buzzed and darted aroun

      Harbour House Crabs
About once a year, my mother orders a bushel of crabs from Harbour House Crabs. Last night, we headed over to her house and sat at the table covered in newspaper, ready to put in a couple of hours. The crabs were meaty and full of eggs (My mom ordered female crabs cause my dad loves the roe.), well spiced in the traditional style of Maryland Blue Crabs, Old Bay. With ten people, we could not finish the bushel. I did my part though, eating seven of the crabs, paying little attention to the garlic bread and oxtail soup my mom made to give some variety. As Lon mentioned, I love work intensive food! Eating crabs for hours is my idea of fun!

      Crabs in Water
Just a quick post, and happy Thanksgiving. Last night I had a dream before I woke up to go to the bathroom, I think it was around 3am, but I don’t remember it now. When I woke up the second time I was dreaming that my hermit crabs were in a big tank of water, and there were fish swimming around, and there was a hang on back filter. And they were huge again, and shed their shells. But they still looked like crabs. Was odd. I was in a big pet store at one point, too… hrm.

Can You Catch Crabs From A Horse? Only If it Throws them Underhand.
Occasionally I’ll check my blog stats to see what type of interesting, salacious, perverted, questionable, and borderline illegal, terms and phrases people type into search engines to accidentally stumble onto my blog. In many ways I’m disgusted at myself that search phrases such as the ones below result in hits on my site, but if you look at the ways I categorize my posts I suppose I shouldn’t be all that surprised. Then again, on my blog’s busiest day the two top search terms were: james dean - 164 hits Rammstein - 42 hits Two ancillary and obscure references that for some reason drive unexplainable amounts of traffic. Anyway, since it’s Friday night and I’m completely distracted by Adam’s first haircut (future post) and a WWE Smackdown (Jack’s obsession) match between Rey Mysterio and Finley I’m going to use what Chag over at Cynical Dad called his crutch and give you a peek behind the curtain to see what drives traffic to Make it a Double. Dreaming of Crabs
I had a hermit crab dream last night. I’ll let you click on the link to read about it on my dream diary. It was an interesting dream, not really good, not really bad, just kinda fun. I like the size of my hermit crabs. I don’t want them to get any bigger, though I do realize they will be getting bigger in the future, as they molt. And speaking of molting, I do think one of the crabs has gone under the sand to molt. I haven’t seen her in a few days, and there are piles of sand that have been built up. I have seen the other two crabs frequently, though. They are such fun little guys, and my coworkers are helping me keep them safe and happy, too!

      Big Crabs
Some interesting dreams last night. I think one of my Hermit Crabs has gone under the sand to molt. Haven’t seen him in days. So last night I dreamed that he came back out and he was huge! He was about the size of a baseball. Right now he’s small, about the size of a golf ball or even smaller. It wasn’t a bad dream. I also dreamed something else and now I don’t remember… something about my husband I’m sure. Good night, though, not a bad night at all.

      Indie Bands, The Hermit Crabs
Have you heard of The Hermit Crabs yet? They’re an up-and-coming Scottish folk-tinged indiepop band group from Glasgow. They’ve just released their debut album, Saw You Dancing, newly out from Matinee Records. If you’re expecting flash, gimmicks, and clever illusions, you’re not going to find it here. The Hermit Crabs offer a return to the sacred art of simple songwriting. They play straightforward pure pop that puts its stock in jangly guitars and singer/guitarist Melanie Whittle. Whittle pristine delivery has a voice like a pure, gently bubbling mountain stream - clear and refreshing. It’s beautifully melodic without overwhelming the rest of the (scenery) music. The four-piece crafts the sort of low-key pop numbers you’d cherish on a drizzly day. Old-fashioned simplicity sits at the heart of Saw You Dancing as the Hermit Crabs waltz through a pure pop album so easily you may forget how slick it really is. Don’t underestimate it: “Secrets an

Overall this year's performance by the students were better than last year's. Their theme this year is God' Marvellous Creation so we saw lots of cute animals and of course under sea creatures like 哥哥, the crab. *wink* We were laughing at some of the performance as their actions were so cute! The costumes were very bright and colourful too! Definitely lots of hard work were put in for this event. I think their hard work were paid off because I can see everyone there enjoying the whole performance.Kudos to the teachers and the children. Thank you for giving us a great performance!

I ordered the hermit crabs! Woo Hoo! I ordered them from The Crabbage Patch. I’m going to the small hermit crabs. I talked to the gentleman at The Crabbage Patch and he recommended more sand for the mediums. I will still add more sand for the smalls but this will give them more sand to burrow in when they want to. They will be mailed next Tuesday, overnight, and then I’ll get them on Wednesday. Since I work from home on Wednesday I will be there when they come. I’m excited! Woo hoo welcome to the new crabbies!

      Stir Fried Crabs
Crabs! Finally they appear on this site. There are many recipes for crabs but this Stir Fried Crabs recipe focuses on simplicity and natural goodness. The usage of garlic, ginger and spring onions help to mask away the slight “fishy” smell of the crabs (I use mangrove / mud crabs here) whilst maintaining the natural sweet taste of the flesh. Unlike other crab recipes like Marmite Crabs, Tomato Crabs, Kam Heong Crabs, Chilli Crabs, Black Pepper Crabs or Cheese Crabs which overpowers the natural sweet taste of the flesh, this recipe ensures that you get to enjoy crabs at its best. By the way, you only kill the crab just before cooking. How does one kill crabs? Well, in Malaysia, these crabs are sold live and bound with strings or reeds. So, they are pretty safe to handle. You have to place the crab upside down and use either a knife or chopstick to kill it. Prior to this however, is to place the crab in a freezer for 15 minutes or so. This will sort of put the crab into hib

      Crabs
Today Valerie came for tuition again. Everyday her mother asked about her progress. I can understand how she feels. However, there is really no such thing as overnight progress. I had only started to give her tuition on last Monday. She did not come for tuition on Thursday. So for four days, I had been coaching her. I had given her tuition for 2 hours each session. But their parents want her to stay longer so that I can teach her more. So normally she would leave my house at about 5.30pm to 6pm. Tuition starts at 2.30pm. Maths is a subject that needs practice. Understanding is not enough. It takes practice and more practice. I would hope their parents would understand. However, on my part, I will always try my best to teach her. But I also need her cooperation as well. If she would not like to study hard, there is no way I can help her to improve as well. So when it comes to students’ progress in their work, it all need the help of all parties involved to w

      Mud Crabs aka Egg Crabs
Wholely crab !!! Yes, I was quite "thankful" when I chanced upon a "tankful" of one of my favorite shellfish the other day - the "Mud Crab".Though the name itself might be a put-off, I'm sure most seafood connoisseur will agree that the taste is a different story altogether.Don't mean to come off sounding sexist, but IMHO only the female mud crabs, also known as "egg crabs", are the ones that really make good eating. Haha.. go figure. The mud crab is not as fleshy as the dungeness crab, so I always choose the heavy ones to get more flesh for my buck. Besides, the heavier they are, the fresher they are too.The mud crab is rarer than its cousins in the North American market, which is why it comes with a higher price tag here. Here in Los Angeles, it is around ten to fifteen dollars when its in season and can easily go above twenty dollars off-season. So you can imagine my joy when I found a couple of "drop dead" gorgeous female mud crabs for only three dollars per pound at the market. Y
