Happy Easter! In honor of bunnies, lets talk about carrots. We were watching Alton Brown the other night and he mentioned that carrots and cumin were cousins. Wow, never would've thought, but I looked it up, and apparently carrots are in the Umbelliferae family along with dill, caraway, parsnips, parsley, anise, and cumin. Parsnips do look like white carrots, and I guess the tops of carrots do look like parsley, but the rest is quite surprising.Carrots and cumin go really well together so here's a easy carrot salad that's meant to be served as an accompaniment to grilled meats. I had such a nice surprise this morning! I was sitting down on the sofa at about 10 a.m., making a to-do list for the party (yes, I’m a chronic list-maker!) and my doorbell rang! It was my nephew, Casey!! I was thrilled to see him, of course, but I do wish he would have given me enough notice to brush my teeth and put on a bra! About two years ago, Ian got over dosage of Vit A, as I put too much of carrots in his meals.
Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t do that for the sake of vit A or kiasu. I put carrots because it is easy to keep, adds fibre, and it also tastes good.
Ian’s skin was yellowish, particularly on his nose - with yellow/orange colour (quite funny looking). That prompted me to see doc, afraid of jaundice. Doc confirmed he was over dosage of Vit A, but he said doesn’t matter - just need to cut down.
Few weeks ago, my friend asked for my opinion on a ‘health tips’ her friend gave. She was advised to add some olive oil along with her son’s solids to help with the absorption of vit A.
Whilst it makes sense as vit A is not water solluble, is it necessary to do that?
My doc and I have the same motto: if one is having a balanced diet, no supplement is required.

We aren’t supposed to know who the housemates for the 2007 Big Brother 8 UK are, but there seems to be a few leaks and rumours. The Daily Star (a trusted newspaper in the UK lol) has reported that the cousin of footballer Wayne Rooney, saucy Natalie Rooney auditioned to be on the show. Although Channel 4 have not confirmed that she made it in to the final line-up. So this weekend sees us take the annual short journey down to the Lane to play our poor cousins. If this game had taken place a few weeks ago then it would have been of massive importance, however as we have pulled in 7 points out of the last 9 we are looking a lot safer in the race for next season’s Champions League. Still there is pride to play for and poor old fat-head Martin feels that the ‘mighty’ Spurs owe us something for basically ruining their season.
Injury wise bar the long term missing (oh Henry and VanP where for art thou?) we are in pretty good condition and the team more or less picks itself. Freddie is still carrying a knock that caused him to miss last nights game and Diaby went off after getting a nasty kick in the head but both should be ok for Saturday.
