So we decided to head back towards the Courthouse Towers to look for opportunities. I [...]
Continuing my previous post on forestalling or avoiding foreclosure in Pickens County, and other parts of Georgia, the next topic I would like to cover is what a home owner can do on their end to alleviate the negative outcome.
Hopefully the methods outlined in my earlier post -- communicating with the lender and maybe some level of counseling or intervention assistance -- will at a minimum
A few days ago, ice and sleet and snow. . . Tonight, rain and 70 degrees. . . Definitely a North Texas winter.
After the rains washed all the gunk out of the air – I was able to take these spiffy night pics of the Old Denton County Courthouse on the square. I particularly like how the decorated trees and landscape lighting make the limestone almost glow in some of the shots. . . The Denton
Dan Tracy of the Orlando Sentinel wrote an interesting article today on foreclosed homes selling for $100 at public auctions held at the Orange County Courthouse. Even homes in upscale communities like Keene’s Pointe and Lake Butler Sound are selling at these too good to be true prices.
He points out the normal person off the [...]

Britney Spears arrives at L.A. courthouse with little fanfareBritney Spears quietly arrived in court Tuesday and was sworn in for her child-custody hearing, a departure from the spectacle of previous appearances that included screaming fans with banners, frenzied paparazzi and the troubled pop star dressed in cocktail-party attire.

So, the voters have spoken once again (at least a narrow majority of those who actually voted), granting Pickens County GA officials permission to allocate $17-million dollars of a new SPLOST -- replacing the one about to expire -- toward either rebuilding or remodeling the present courthouse located on Main Street in Jasper.
Fair enough. Justice needs a home.

There have been some interesting personal experiences at the circular Baltimore courtroom that was modeled after a similar structure at the Library of Congress.
“We were talking, and she mentioned to me that she had become convinced there was a spirit or some type of presence in the courtroom,” Cohen said. “C’mon!” he thought to himself. [...]

Britney showed once again why she does NOT deserve to keep her kids. Though not legally required to attend the child custody hearing, she was strongly urged to show up to explain her recent bizarre actions. She did show up, but left almost immediately. She got out of her car and as the paparazzi surrounded her, she scurried back into her car. The car circled around the block, stopped at a curb then drove away. The court hearing focused on Spears's four-hour Jan. 3 standoff with police, firefighters and paramedics at her Studio City home. Events that evening resulted in Spears being hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Federline continues to hold sole custody of both the children. Britney lost all visitation rights after her hospitalization.

Britney Spears was spotted arriving at the L.A. Superior Court. “There was testimony given by both parties,” said court rep Meredith Pierce, “but Commissioner Gordon did not make a ruling today. He took the case under submission, meaning he’ll consider both sides and will craft a new court order.” Sorrell Trope, Spears’ attorney said he was “absolutely satisfied” with the court session. “I left with a favorable feeling,” he added.

Marc Frison, who is a martial arts student, was arrested and charged with a felony after deputies found a martial arts knife in his gym bag. Frison said he was at court to straighten out a traffic citation and forgot to take the knife out of his bag when he passed through the courthouse security. However, deputies say Frison got arrested because he questioned them when they took the knife, and that he then got out of control. The judge also said that Frison was uncooperative. His bond has been set at $100,000.
The town of Slidell, LA, is not too far from me. I can get there in an hour. Given my familiarity with the widespread Christian extremism in this area, I was not surprised by news that the ACLU is suing Slidell due to the latest local attempt to violate separation of church and state. The suit concerns a painting of Jee-zuhs in a city courthouse. The ACLU correctly points out that hanging a painting of Jee-zuhs in a courthouse lobby is a constitutional violation. That they actually have to bring suits like this in 2007 is a testament to the level of religious idiocy we have achieved in America.First, the ACLU asked the Slidell City Court to remove the painting voluntarily. Doing so would have avoided any legal action and certainly would have been the right thing to do."We did not file this lawsuit because the ACLU is anti-religion ... We did file this lawsuit because we believe this display is clearly in violation of the law," said Vincent Booth, president and acting executive director

Yesterday, I had to report for jury duty. I was waiting on line inside the foyer of the courthouse with more than 50 other Queens residents, and I suddenly noticed that almost everyone looked miserable!
At first, I wasn't completely convinced about the accuracy of my observation, but once I made it through the security screening, I was certain. Our group was instructed to sit in a big room which, sure enough, contained hundreds of other miserable-looking people! I began to wonder why everyone had such long faces. I had just returned from a Buddhist country and Buddha’s philosophy is that life is suffering. Were all these people immersed in their suffering? Or, were they all simply upset about missing work and having to do jury duty? Or, was I just exaggerating things by projecting my own unhappiness at having to show up at the courthouse while still battling a stomach flu?
