Sorprendentemente Ferrari está de vuelta, por lo menos esa fue la conclusión de hoy. Esta vez McLaren no estuvo tan conduntente como los grandes premios pasados. En la segunda tanda de los entrenamientos libres de hoy Felipe Massa finalizó primero con un tiempo de 1:15:453. Kimi Raikkonen mostró también que la Ferrari para Francia tiene ritmo, Kimi finalizó 2do a 35 centésimas del brasilero. El más rápido de los McLaren fue Lewis Hamilton quien ocupó el 4to lugar mientras que Alonso tras varias salidas de pista y sin encontrar el ritmo terminó en 8vo lugar. Para sorpresa de todos, mas alla del nivel de combustible usado, los Toro Rosso ocuparon el 3ro y 5to lugar, con Scot Speed y Vitantonio Luizzi respectivamente.
