There was a time in my life (mostly during college) when I would irresponsibly use my credit cards. I was deeply in debt and was having trouble making monthly payments. I decided that I needed to solve the problem by hiring the services of a credit counseling company.Basically, these companies contact your creditors and get your interest rate and monthly payment lowered. First comment from this forum :I did a search on this and couldnt find anything relevent, so Im sorry if this has been done before!Im supposed to talk to someone from the credit counseling company tomorrow, but I want to see if anyone has done this, and know if its really a good idea or not. From what I understand its a company that negotiates better rates on your credit cards, but its not a consolidation. They would cancel or lock the existing cards and wed be unable to open any new ones until its paid off. It seems like it would be paid off much faster (for about hte same amount we are currently doling out) than if we just paid as usual. The Mercury reported on Monday that the "indigenous counselling" initiative would complement Western forms of counselling provided by the Student Counselling Centre.
It said plans are under way to build traditional huts for the healers, following a proposal by the deputy dean of students Bheki Ncgobo.
"The need for indigenous healers to diagnose illnesses, prescribe and prepare herbal medicine, provide counselling and offer spiritual support cannot be overemphasised," Ncgobo was quoted as saying.
He said that the project should be seen in the context of "reclaiming our heritage".

One of the most important roles a special finance manager can have is that of “Credit Counselor’. Most of the time, we talk about counseling your “no sales” or turndowns, in an effort to hold on to them and possibly sell them a vehicle later on, after they have “refreshed” their credit. A proactive approach to this concept is taking on the role of credit counselor in order to sell these customers a vehicle now, during the sales presentation. Doing so will help you control the process, keeping the customer focused on the “credit decision” and away from the “product decision” until you are ready to do so.
