In lieu of the recent voluntary recall of Children’s Tylenol products, which I find to be surprisingly responsible, I want to gain a stronger understanding of the adverse effects of some of the common active ingredients found in over the counter children’s medicines and the outward signs and symptoms. The first example being actameninophen, which is the main active ingredient in these Children’s Tylenol products and is generally used to reduce fevers. The recent recall has to do with the labeling of the product and not the contents - so it’s important to reiterate that actameninophen is a safe and helpful drug when taken in proper doses. But if taken in excess over an extended period (sited as greater than three to five days), it can cause liver damage and in extreme cases can cause liver failure. It is getting to be that time of year again where everyone in our house is sniffing and coughing and just plain miserable. I have decided that this year I will tryout some home remedies. I will share some of the recipes with my readers of this blog. 1. Mix Lemon juice with honey and have it. 2. Pepper gives relief from Cough. 3. Take a small piece of Ginger and keep it in your mouth for sometime. 4. Soak some almonds overnight. Remove the skin and make a paste of these almonds with little butter and sugar and have it. 5. Add a few drops of eucalyptus to a carrier oil and rub on your chest. 6.
