Costco Pawns Off Fake Cheesecake for Thanksgiving
We had 26 family and friends for Thanksgiving. People brought a dish, dessert, bottle of wine — you name it. As we were throwing out garbage today, we ran across this example of fake killer food: Not only does it contain no cheese, but they did include artery-clogging partially hydrogenated oils and blubber-enhancing high-fructose corn syrup. Is Costco cheap?
We have a Costco membership. It costs us $40 a year to be a member. We buy certain items there that we know are cheaper than our grocery store. One item I buy costs about $22 at Costco and its $28 at Amazon. We also get gas at Costco and their prices for gas are usually the cheapest in town. You can usually save 5-10¢ per gallon at Costco. Costco And Sam’s Club Memberships: Are They An Investment?
Typically I would shy away from calling things such as Costco and Sam’s Club memberships “investments,” but in light of recent events they might just be entering into that category. I read an article from the Wall Street Journal yesterday that opened my eyes to the concept. In the article, it is explained that food prices are increasing by so much that it makes sense for people to stock pile non-perishable food rather than put that money into savings or money market accounts. According to the article, food inflation for the average American household is running around 4.5 percent right now. Many foods are seeing price increases much higher than that. Cereal prices are rising by more than 8 percent a year, and flour and rice are up more than 13 percent. Milk, cheese, bananas and pea

      Not Renewing My Costco Card
Before I got my own Costco Card, I used to visit the store with a friend of mine that had a Costco Card. I was pretty impressed with the store so I dropped the $50 to get my own membership. I thought I would save alot of money by buying in bulk. I have been a Costco member for over 2 years but I've decided that I will not be renewing my membership for another year. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy myself every time I go to Costco. I usually go when I'm hungry so I can sample all of the food displays. By the time I leave the store, I'd usually be full of free samples. If there were not enough samples to fill up on, I usually hit the snack bar for hot dog and drink for $1.50. a taste of wales. at costco?
No, sillies, this isn't a tale of eating a whale! It's true. Most Angeleno's don't know where Wales is, and they sure as hell don't know that one of their national foods is the cockle. Wales is one of the four countries (yes, it's its own country), that comprises the United Kingdom - that land across the pond we often assume falls under the blanket "England" that most certainly does not. A country rich in history and tradition, bordered primarily by the Irish Sea with lush hills and valleys, craggy cliffs, and patches of desolate coal-like terrain, it's no surprise many of the local foods come from the sea.So, what on earth is a cockle? It's a lot like a small clam. Brits eat them as snack food, served outside of their pale orange and green hued shells in paper cones with a bit of vinegar. You can even get jars of them pickled at local groceries. The Welsh do the same, but it's more common to see them served as you would other bi-valves for dinner, and more often, on a breakfas

Shopping at Costco...the frugal way !!
Source: BluntMoney.comMake a list. We keep a piece of paper stuck to the fridge, and whenever we run low on things, we add them to the list. This list is for anything that you could buy at either a grocery store or a warehouse store like Costco.Do some window shopping. If you’re just starting out, go to each store with the list and write down the unit prices on the items you buy regularly. Get out your calculator & compare. If you’ve got old grocery receipts laying around the house, you can save time on this step by taking the list to Costco & comparing, although your comparisons won’t be as accurate because of the differences in sizes. This takes a little time, but you only have to do it once! And the savings will be significant over time. Don’t buy ANYTHING during this step!Evaluate. Look at the items that are cheaper per unit at Costco and decide if they are things that could be frozen or stored for long periods (such as meats, breads, or toilet paper). If they’re

Costco to the ER in Two Minutes
Today was not a fun day. The short end of it was I ended up in the ER with Curt's Grandma who fainted while the two of us were at Costco minding our own business buying bulk Tide. With her being 79, any health related scare is a HUGE deal and I was quite worried for a while there. She is fine and wonderfully resting in her recliner at home. One thing I relearned about myself-I am eerily calm in stressful situations. I'm sure all the 911 disaster calls I once took helped in that department. Tomorrow is going to be a better day.

      Shopping at Costco
Today, we were off to an early start. Sundays for us are usually idle but since we haven't been to Costco for a long time, I urged Frank that we go shopping today. And Costco shopping usually means at least 2 hours. I just like to browse, and go from aisle to aisle because there are always unexpected merchandise in this warehouse store.Breakfast was at Burger King. Then we immediately proceeded to Costco. It was only 10:30 a.m. when we got there, but the store was already bustling with shoppers. Our cart was full not to mention: heavy with regular household stuff and food as usual. On our way down to the escalator, Frank suggested we get a dozen cupcakes. I was not quite sold to the idea but I went for it. I figure, why not? It's not priced like gold, so that even if it's not that good and end up not consuming them, I won't feel guilty tossing them. When we got home and was done unloading our loot, I couldn't wait to try the cupcakes. Hence, the reason why there's 2 missing cupca

How to Find Parking at Costco in Korea
Here's the best way to find a parking spot at Costco in Korea. Forget dealing with finding a spot on the street (or on the sidewalk) because you won't find any. Wide open spaces are unavailable here for parking lots so they are usually underground or up above. Here's a video of how to find parking at Costco. You drive into individual elevators that take you to the underground parkade. On busy days, this could take you a long time to either leave or enter the premises (let's hope the elevator doesn't get stuck while you're in it, that would suck!):Another interesting tidbit of information, is that most drivers will leave their cell phone numbers on their dash so you can call them to move their double parked cars. Also, some drivers leave their cars in neutral so people who are boxed in can push their car out of the way. The following video is courtesy of Bryan from his blog, Student in Korea--how to properly push a car out of the way:

Costco Makes Grocery Shopping Fun Again!
When we first moved to our current city and state I was disappointed in the grocery stores available to me. It had been 17 years since I had previously lived in this state and apparently they hadn't updated any of their grocery stores in all that time. They were dark, dingy, poorly laid out and the prices! Oh my goodness. I remember rebelling the first two grocery shopping trips and not

      Are Costco's Universal?
I can't help it... every time I go into a Costco Membership retail store, at some point during the trek, I smile. Why? I smile because I feel I'm back in my element. I'm comfortable. I'm 'home' even though I've had 10 homes around the country over the past 18 years. Back in 1988 my husband and I were married in a small town in the Midwest. We moved to southern California so he could

California Vet Alerts to Possible Contaminated Pet Food (Nutra Nuggets) From Costco
From KSEE24 News in California: May 21, 2007 - Dog owners are being warned about a batch of possibly contaminated food, sold at a Visalia Costco around mid-April, after at least four dogs fell ill. Two of the dogs who became sick, a nine-year-old chocolate lab named Bob and his 1 1/2-year-old adopted sister, Pearl, have been staying at the Lone Oak Pet Clinic in Visalia, since May 11, after they began throwing up. “We took them in… and her kidney was 80 percent shutdown,” said owner Ken Womack. The dogs are being fed through intravenous tubes and are regaining their strength, but their struggle doesn’t seem to be isolated. Two other dogs apparently came in earlier with the same symptoms. Veterinarian Dr. Matt Humason says “We began asking questions…we found the dogs all ate the same food from the same store at the same time… so we sent a sample to get it tested and it came back positive with melamine.” All four dogs ate Nutra Nuggets brand food.
If they’re thin

Costco restocks, sells out of Xbox 360 Elites
When the first shipment of Xbox 360 Elites hit Costco store shelves, they were quick to disappear. So naturally, Costco restocked their shelves… and they disappeared again. Costco has been selling the Elite as part of a $530 package that included an additional controller and a plug and play charger kit. Now, it’s since been taken off the Costco website, because they’re sold out. Again. But this is nothing new for online retailers. Best Buy has been sold out of the Elite for as long as I can remember, and as of now (Thursday, May 3rd), Amazon.com is still without. But, if you go to Circuit City’s website, you can still get your hands on these surprisingly elusive Elites. So, for all of you guys who said that the 360 Elite was destined to fail… owned. Microsoft, Xbox 360, Xbox 360 Elite, Costco, Best Buy, Circuit City

      Velociraptors at Costco
Every time we visit Costco I always end up observing something interesting. Children sleeping in shopping carts, live karaoke performances, tree planting, and ideas for dinner. Now, for all you Costco fans out there, part of the experience of making the trek to the warehouse is tasting all the samples. Why eat at the food court when you can get a balanced diet for free? Anyways, usually near the meat and poultry section there is a lady cooking steaks of Australian beef for sampling. South Korea is home to some of the world's most expensive beef prices (although that may change). So let me tell ya, when there's free samples of steak, people will gather around and hover like a pack of wolves. Upon passing the steak at first it was about half cooked. I wasn't going to wait around to have a sample. That was until ten minutes later I saw a crowd gathering around the station--I knew I had to get in on the action. I recognized one lady who was patiently waiting around the station the moment

      Rotisserie chicken from Costco
Here's a picture of dinner I was meaning to post. We bought a rotisserie chicken from Costco for about 6000w ($6usd) a while back and had it for dinner with some brown rice and kimchi (just prior to finishing off the bag). The chicken was moist and juicy but there was a bit too much grease for my liking. Half of the chicken was for dinner and the other half was for lunch with leftovers to spare. I felt like I was carving a turkey for thanksgiving: It was pretty darn good with kimchi and sweet chili sauce...

Kalyn’s Kitchen Picks: Costco’s Great Reusable Shopping Bags
Everyone knows that humans are creating waste at an alarming rate, and anything that keeps our earth from filling up with plastic bags is a good thing. However, even though I did embrace that concern in theory, I've been slow to embrace the idea of bringing my own ...
