      In the States, the traditional Holiday drink is Eggnog. In Puerto Rico, it is Coquito. This super sweet, alcoholic concoction is a crowd favorite at any holiday gathering. There are many recipes for Coquito, all slightly different. They all involve cream of coconut and rum. So how bad could any of them be? Our first year here, Ray took it upon himself to find the best tasting recipe. We tried many recipes, and tweaked and tasted (it’s a tough job, but someone has to do it!) until he came up with one he considers to be the best. He labels it "Gringo" Coquito. When we bring it to parties, there’s always a comparison of the different homemade Coquitos, and ours is usually judged a winner. (more…)

      Coquito – Puerto Rican Christmas Eggnog
      Here in Puerto Rico there are many traditional foods and drinks that appear over the Christmas Holiday Season and Coquito is one of my favorites. Coquito is Puerto Rico’s Christmas eggnog and it is delicious. If you are here in Puerto Rico over the Christmas period, more than likely you will be offered a glass or two during your stay. If you are unfortunate, to be elsewhere, you can always make your own. The following recipe is taken from ‘A Taste of Puerto Rico’ by Yvonne Ortiz (one of my favorite Puerto Rican Cook Books). Coquito Ingredients (makes 5 cups): 1 cup of coconut milk 1 cup sweetened condensed milk 1 cup evaporated milk 1 cup white rum 1 cup of water 3 cinnamon sticks 4 egg yolks, well beaten Ground cinnamon for decoration Recipe: In a blender or food processor combine the milks and the rum. Boil the water and the cinnamon sticks, then allow to cool to room temperature (don’t forget to remove cinnamon sticks), Combine all of the ingredients (except ground cin

      Mi Libro "Coquito"Hoy dia me vino a la mente un recuerdo que me saco una gran sonrisa, hoy dia recorde cuando tenia 5 años y estaba en pleno apendizaje. Asi como ustedes y todos los niños en el mundo, tuve un libro, el mio se llamaba "Coquito". Recuerdo que era un libro azulito, bastante bonito para mi gusto de ese entonces, mi libro "Coquito". No habia dia y noche que no lo haya leído, es por eso que resulte terminando por leer el libro completo mas de veinte veces, y es que aprender a leer es una de las cosas que mas esperamos en la vida.
