Personal Finance - Coping With Life after Adverse Credit
So how can you go about getting out of the credit Catch 22 if you have adverse credit? Few credit-card providers are willing to take 'risks' with adverse credit history consumers applying for their products - and some of those that do then want to charge the people who can least afford it the highest rate of interest. Fortunately for those who face such a prospect, there are some financial institutions prepared to consider taking on adverse credit history customers. But be absolutely upfront with them about your past problems to avoid wasting time. There are also UK financial products sometimes referred to as a second mortgage or a second charge and, in the event of your defaulting on the loan, the lenders are repaid only after your original mortgage has been repaid to the lender, wh

Agoraphobia - outdoor coping skills test postponed
Marie wanted to go out and check out some shops, get some Christmas presents, see if her outdoor coping skills are also improving. We had everything organised to go on Monday when Joseph was at school, extra staff were working so that we wouldn't be needed and Orla was booked into a nursery for the day; but alas! it wasn't to be.First of all, Orla went sick on Saturday. Puked all over me, so that was good fun (lol). Next, late on Sunday night, Joseph vomited over his bedroom floor. Perhaps he liked the feel of this, for he repeated it in the hall, and finally at the entrance to the bathroom. There are nicer things to do at 2.30 am than clean vomit from carpets...Marie has been enjoying working for the past few months, so I took on the childcare duties. Orla hasn't been physically sick

Coping with Depression (Wellness Activity 2)
Another way I try and cope with depressive episodes is to read inspirational books. One of the books I'm currently reading is Happiness: A Guide to Developing Life's Most Important Skill by Matthieu Ricard.Richard is a Buddhist monk who "had a promising career in cellular genetics before leaving France to study Buddhism in the Himalayas thirty-five years ago. He is a bestselling author, translator, and photographer, and an active participant in current scientific research on the effects of meditation on the brain. He lives in Tibet and Nepal, where he is involved in a variety of humanitarian projects."Ricard writes, "The search for happiness is not about looking at life through rose-colored glasses or blinding oneself to the pain and imperfections of the world. Nor is happiness a state of exaltation to be perpetuated at all costs; it is the purging of mental toxins, such as hatred and obsession, that literally poison the mind."It is also about learning how to put things in perspecti

Coping with Depression (Wellness Activity 1)
This morning, as I waited for my medication to kick in (I use a stimulant and it takes about 45 minutes to begin having an impact),I thought back on all the years when I sought help for this illness and how extraordinarily bad the advice and treatment was.The lack of insight about depression and bipolar mood disorder is stunning! The treatment is terrible. The pain it produces is legion. The devastation is inestimable. Then, I stopped that thought process and began focusing on the positive. I said the words that no doctor has ever said to me. "Susan, you need to remember you can heal yourself. You can change your body chemistry by the strength of your personality. You feel good about yourself and have high self-esteem. You must use your strengths to heal yourself."Depressive episodes don't happen in a vacuum. They are triggered by life events. You understand your recent losses and you have felt overwhelmed by sadness. Relatives have deeply disappointed you but this is not new behavior.

      Coping With Risk and Uncertainty
Brett N. Steenbarger, Ph.D.How do you cope with the risk and uncertainty that are built into markets, and are you coping effectively? The topic of coping actually begins with the notion of stress. Stress is a characteristic set of physiological, cognitive, and emotional responses to threat. Generally, these responses speed up such bodily functions as heart rate, galvanic skin response, muscle tension, and rate of respiration. For this reason, the stress response has sometimes been called the "flight or fight" reaction. In the face of threat, our bodies prepare us for action: either to attack the source of danger or to run from it. What constitutes a source of stress is highly dependent upon our perception. If we define something as a threat, we will experience it as threatening, and that will trigger a stress response. For some people, public speaking is an everyday activity, not to be feared at all. It might even be something enjoyable. Others view public speaking as a poten

      Women Coping with Acne
When you’re a teenager acne is viewed as an uncomfortable part of growing up. It always seems to get worse right before that big date or the school dance. You do everything you can to get rid of it while waiting to just simply outgrow it. So, as you slip into your twenties you assume that it’ll all be gone. Too often it doesn’t work like that. While the boys are getting over their acne problems some girls are still trying to figure out when it is going to stop. With all the ongoing hormonal changes that a woman goes through, and the pregnant years, acne can be an ongoing problem. Five percent of all women over forty still have some acne condition and this will last until menopause. Only one percent of men over forty still have acne to deal with. Sometimes acne can be a sign of things that are not going right in your body. It can be a warning sign that there may be hormonal or pituitary gland issues that you must bring to the attention of your health care provider. Yo

      Coping With Cancer-A Family View
An often forgotten feature of dealing with cancer is what I call 'after the event'. That is, when your loved one has passed on. The coming months are a particular difficult time for such people. There is a real danger that during this time the grieving person resorts to addictive substances to get through the trauma. This is understandable but not always the best course of action. You can find myself drinking far too much alcohol (a lot more than the recommended amount per week) for the months following the death. My experience is that you will then gradually come down to a reasonable level. I'm not advocating drinking as a way of coping. But I'm realistic in that some people will go down this root, so be aware of such behaviour. [I found myself going this way after my father's death in February 2005.] Being angry and crying, even at the same time, are very common emotions following the event. Don't feel embarrassed by this. It is perfectly normal. Just try to avoid hurting yo

Coping with Stress, its Effects on Your Skin and Health, and Turning Back the Clock
By: David MaillieStress comes in many forms, workplace stress, family stress, grief over loss of a loved one, etc... Some can be avoided, but as we know, many cannot. Some people handle stress better than others, and some even thrive onit.Regardless, stress takes its toll.Stress has been proven to rid your body of many essential vitamins and minerals. Particularly vitamins C, E, and B. This leads to lethargy, lower focussed mental activities (clinically stress causes more erratic brain activity and a reduction in short term and long term memory), drying out and aging of the skin (in some), and in others a increase in the sebaceous gland activity - which usually brings postules, acne, and rosacea - which all bring more stress as we then become more entangled in how others view our physical appearance. We cannot stop all stress, but we can take steps to stop or limit its toll on our skin and body. Take a full vitamin suplament every day. Eat a well balanced diet - especially fish meat lik
