      Kent in Copenhagen...
Peter wrote a comment the other day that he was looking forward to reading my report on the Kent concert. As always I refrain from doing a review as other people are much better at doing this. So as usual I’ll stick to posting a few of my thoughts instead. The concert was a lot better than the one in December thanks to a vastly improved setlist and the band no longer sticking to the “new” 80’s inspired sound from Tillbaka Till Samtiden. The band’s “playfulness” somewhat surprised me. Hearing Dom Andra and Om Du Var Här in (what you could be tempted to call) disco arrangements was actually quite refreshing. And so was hearing “rock” versions of some of the new tracks like Berlin and Ingenting. And the thundering performance of Romeo Återvänder Ensam was just marvelous.Fol

      Copenhagen Fashion Week #2
Three more shows from Copenhagen Fashion Week prove the modern approach to women's wear of Danish fashion, expressed in fresh silhouettes and a focus on details. Preen by Thornton and Bregazzi debuted at London Fashion Week in Spring 2001, and, since then, made its way through the fashion world with its unconventional, fresh look. The label, known for the use of traditional fabric and clean, modern cuts is now sold in over 170 stores worldwide. The Preen Line, targeted towards a younger market, showed its fall/winter 2008 collection at Copenhagen Fashion Week, on February the 10th. The show had a youthful energy sending out hip, edgy and minimalist daywear in a neutral color palette punctuated by splashes of bright blue. Preen fall 2008 read more

Christiania according to the wikipedia is a controversial, partially self-governing neighbourhood of about 850 residents, covering 34 hectares (85 acres) in the borough of Chistianhavn in the Danish capital, Copenhagen. A former military camp, it was occupied by homeless people in Copenhagen in 1971. A few weeks after, it was proclaimed as a free town by a writer named Jacob Ludvigsen. Christiania quickly became associated with the hippie movement and cannabis. Recently, the Danish government has been trying to "normalize" the situation in Christiania and so open drug dealing was put to a halt.Since Christiania is partially self-governing, they are not subject to building laws. The result is fresh and eclectic furniture design and architecture found nowhere else in Europe. In the en

Friday Date Night: Royal Copenhagen Tea Louge
This will most likely be our last Friday Date Night before the coming of Ramadhan in a couple of weeks’ time. We decided to check out a restaurant that we’ve never been to - Royal Copenhagen Tea Lounge. The restaurant, situated on the second level of Takashimaya Shopping Centre, has been around for quite a while. According to the review at AsiaOne’s Wine, Dine and Unwind, the restaurant recently changed its menu. The kitchen, now headed by chef Norman Bin Abdullah, a Muslim convert, serves up a delectable array of dishes, presented beautifully on Royal Copenhagen’s famous fine chinaware. All the food on the menu contain no pork nor lard, but the restaurant is not certified halal. Alcohol is served on the premises, much like other “no pork, no lard, but got alcohol” restaurants like Fish & Co. and Coffee Club. There was a three-course set meal that costs just $22++, but we decided to go for something from the menu. We jumped straight into the ma

You deserve a huge shiny award for your feat! And your probably poor butchered feet!“ and Carolina actually „never saw a girl in a bike wearing heels!“Hhm. I was a little bit confused by that. All in all none of the commenting readers ever saw a girl riding her bike in heels. I have to admit though that I only did it once in Mary’s shoes in Berlin, but that’s because I hardly wear heels, but ride my bike a lot so if I would wear heels more often I woule definitely wear them on my bike (not on my racing bike, though). Ladies, it is absolutely NOT dangerous, strange, hard or whatever to ride your bikes in heels, you don’t even touch the ground

Talking about "the machine behind the field humanitarian work", in my previous post. Two weeks ago, I flew to Copenhagen to visit the large Unicef base there, their main logistics and procurement support centre. It was a different setting from our logistics base in Brindisi.. And I am not just talking about the weather (which was cold and rainy, compared to the 40 degrees in Brindisi!). These were purpose-built offices and warehouses. The offices were really nice, with a lot of wood, light and plants. Those Scandinavians sure have an appealing style in interior decorations. The similarity was there though, as their offices and warehouses are located in the harbour area. (Is it not a dream to have an office looking over the water and the sailboats?).Apart from the office complex, they have huge warehouses, and that was where our main purpose of our mission was: to learn of how they organise their stocks, the systems they use to manage the warehouses... We didn’t know that the show was on and just stumbled upon it while on the way to the a restaurant. I think there were more than a hundred cars in total but because of the crowds and the fact that we were all ready en route to the restaurant I only got to grab these shots. I wanted to get more of the night time action, on the way back form the restaurant, but the pictures didn’t turn out to well. Actually I was lucky I got any and that I had a camera with me at all. Anyway, you can check out the cool cars in the gallery (you might be able to spot my favorite as well ) and can find even higher resolution versions of the images on my Flickr account. cars, Copenhagen, corvette, ferrari, hot rods, København, media, mustang, picturesShare This This post originally appeared on Paul OFlahertys Technology Blog. © 2007 Paul

Sir Alex Ferguson had known from the beginning that a draw would be enough to ensure that his Man Utd side progress to the next round in the Champions League but ex-Aston Villa player Marcus Allback had other ideas as he bundled in the winner to keep Copenhagen's slim hopes alive while condeming United to their first defeat in Europe this season. The atmosphere in the stadium was almost similar to one you would see in Moscow, it was cold and there was snow falling down from the sky as the host opted to open the stadium's roof instead of clsoing it and preventhing the elements from coming in, it's a little strange, why build a retracable roof if you don't use it when you have the chance to? Anyway, United they field Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs and Louis Saha as Wes Brown, Darren Fletcher and Ole Gunnar took their place respectively while Rio Ferdinand, Paul Scholes and Patrice Evra were also rested with Silvestre, O' Shea and Heinze coming in for the trio, so it was a total of si

Alex Ferguson for some inexplicable reason decided to rest Rio and Scholes, after injuries had already ruled out Giggs, Saha and Neville. We were on auto-pilot for most of the match until the Danes, somewhat luckily, scored in the 73rd minute. We then threw men forward, but the battle was already lost. Had we shown any kind of endeavour prior to the goal, we would not have lost this game. Why does Ferguson time and time again field weakened teams in the Champions League is beyond me. Flash back to 2 seasons ago, when we fielded weakened teams after qualifying. The result was that we ended up in 2nd in the table, faced AC Milan in the second round and promptly got dumped. This time round, we decided to up the level of stupidity by fielding a weaken side even before we assured ourselves of qualification. As for the performance of individual players, there's not much to say. Like the Mickey Mouse Cup game a week ago, we played down to our opponents. Most of the team was sleep-walking thr

Captain Rooney Leads United to Victory (Manchester United 3 - FC Copenhagen 0)
Rooney captained the team to a 3-0 trumph in the absense of Giggs, who was not feeling well, and Rio, who somehow hurt his neck during the warm up. It was a scoreline predicted by most pundits, but to be honest, Copenhagen played really well. Copenhagen impressed me with the way they approached the game, throwing players forward in attack and did make an impression on Van der Sar numberous times. However in throwing players forward, they were caught out at the back, and had it not been for keeper Christiansen's outstanding performance, they might have been dead and buried in the first half. The game itself was played at a breakneck pace in the first half. Both sides played attractive attacking football with precision passing. But it was United who broke the deadlock in the 40th minute with a Scholes scoring his first of the season with a trademark thunderbolt. And right in the beginning of the second half, O'Shea, perhaps luckily knocked the ball into the net from a corner to give us

Copenhagen in review So I ended up not staying ...
Copenhagen in review So I ended up not staying at the Hotel Jorgensen. I'm sure its a quite pleasant place to stay but right in front of the building, there was a sign on a lamppost advertising a hostel for only 95 Kroner a night, 35% cheaper than Jorgensen and with breakfast. It was a bit of a hike to the address shown, but it would be worth it to save my 10 bucks for my copenhagen stay. When I got there, there was no hostel. Just a house. Disappointed, I sat down and referred to my guide and found a cheaper hostel than Jorgensen that was a bit closer to my spot in Norrebro. It was called the Sleep In Heaven, and had a nice front atmosphere and I got my dorm bed for 110 Kroner a night, or about 16 bucks... to stay in a bed with 100 other of my closest friends. Everybody there was from Australia or New Zealand it seemed and a group of us hung out that evening and wandered to Christania, for a mind bending evening in the free town... smoking substances, watching some great music, snea
