MillerCoors is going to be rolling out the cold-activated label, where the mountains turn blue when they’re cold, across all of Coors Light’s bottles and cans. This silly marketing gimmick is unlikely to compel people to buy the beer, because after all, it’s still Coors Light.
A couple of weeks ago my brother-in-law Dan Pikarsky showed me an amusing little application on his iPhone. Basically it was a cyber beer. When you activate the feature, the phone's screen appears to be a full glass of beer. Tip the phone toward your lips and it appears you are drinking the brew.Created by Steve Sheraton, this bit of web fun can be downloaded -- at $2.99 a pop. That's around the c
Here's a refreshing change of pace. We've heard a lot lately about indie app developers being sued or threatened with legal action from large corporations. Generally speaking, the most common result is the developer bending to the will of the company, whether it means making them change their app or having Apple remove it. This time developer Hottrix is turning the tables, suing Coors for $12.5 m

When iPint appeared in the App Store, it climbed to the top 10 most downloaded free applications -- essentially stealing iBeer's thunder. Ever since Apple removed iPint, Hottrix's iBeer climbed up to App Store's top 25 most popular paid applications list. iBeer is currently number 22 on t...

Molson Coors, one of the largest brewers in the world, is diving into the digital signage arena with an investment in The Bar Channel, a Canadian digital out-of-media network that broadcasts programming via closed-circuit Internet to subscriber bars. After launching in April, the network grew to 88 Ontario bars and about $600,000 in first-year revenue, and it expects to add 50 establishments in Calgary and 50 in Ontario during the coming year. Despite the modest scale, the Bar Channel already has attracted a low six-figure investment from Molson Coors. The brewer is intrigued Bar Channel's ability to let it customize messaging at each bar, which gives it the ability to emphasize drink specials, or even show employee-training videos during slower hours. "We've seen share gains in the bars wh
The Jaunt presents some of the best tailgating recipes from around the web or from good old-fashioned cook books. Each month we will post a new recipe that we probably aren't talented enough to cook up ourselves. The featured concoction this month is similar to the fare served at Coors Field; home to the white-hot Colorado Rockies. "When making Ballpark Sausages, I add a secret ingredient — fresh fennel — to my sautéed veggies when it’s available. This aromatic plant has pale green, celery-like stems and bright green, feathery foliage. It has a broad, bulbous base that is treated like a vegetable. Fennel is often mislabeled “sweet anise.” The flavor of fennel, however, is sweeter and more delicate than anise and, when cooked, becomes even lighter and more elusive than when it is raw."Ballpark SausagesFrom the kitchen of Carol Ann Kates, author of “Secret Recipes from the Corner Market”Serves 6This is a fun, creative way to serve your favorite sausage. The makers of Coors and Miller Lite plan to combine their U.S. brewing operations in an effort to compete better against industry leader Anheuser-Busch.
The joint venture announced Tuesday will be known as MillerCoors and will have responsibility for selling brands including Miller Lite, Miller Genuine Draft, Coors, Coors Light and Molson Canadian in the U.S.
SABMiller PLC will have a 58 percent economic interest in the venture and MolsonCoors Brewing Co. will own 42 percent of the new company. They will have equal voting interests, howe
The rumors of a possible marriage between the second and third largest brewers in the United States have been around for years. Today SABMiller and Molson Coors Brewing Co. are announcing they have signed a letter of intent to combine the two companies' U.S. and Puerto Rico operations.Miller Brewing Co. and Coors Brewing Co. will have annual combined beer sales of 69 million barrels and net revenue of $6.6 billion. The joint venture, to be called MillerCoors, will allow the brewers to cut costs by $500 million and compete more strongly in the U.S. market. Anheuser-Busch is the dominant domestic brewer, but both imports and craft beers have been gaining share in recent years. The most valuable brand properties of both companies happen to be light beers. Miller Lite and Coors Light do battle with A-B's Bud Light and Michelob Ultra in the low calorie segment. The companies have also experienced recent successes with brands like Miller Chill and Blue Moon. Pete Coors will become chairman
Coors Light will announce Tuesday a $20 million deal over five years to become the official beer of NASCAR starting in January. Coors replaces Anheuser-Busch as the official beer sponsor. The new deal includes renaming the pole award to the Coors Light Pole Award from the Bud Pole Award. For Coors, the NASCAR deal also replaces its sponsorship of the No. 40 Dodge in the top-tier Nextel Cup Series. "Our deal was up with those guys and this opportunity came up," says Andy England, chief marketer for Coors. "It feels like we are elevating our game."
It looks like Molson Coors Brewing wants its Coors Brewing subsidiary to come out with a hit craft beer more than once in a blue moon.Beer distributors and company employees have been told the company formed AC Golden Brewing Co. in Colorado to make "above-premium beers." The company says it will use low key roll outs in hopes of finding another Blue Moon, a brand that is among the fastest growing at the craft end of the market. Coors also makes Coors Light, Killian's Irish Red and Keystone, but avoids connecting Blue Moon with these brands.AC Golden Brewing's efforts will be closely watched by craft brewers. Anheuser-Busch has been extremely active in rolling out craft-styled flanker brands in recent months. The larger brewers benefit from established distribution channels which can more easily obtain store cooler space and bar tap handles than small brewers. While the giant brewers are careful to not put major ad spending behind the brands, the process of consumer discovery of thes

Is there a chance that SABMiller and Molson Coors might come together under some type of alliance? The idea was floated recently by SABMiller Americas President Norman Adami in a recent interview with Thomson Financial. He told the news service that if Molson Coors "should make themselves available" then SABMiller would look closely at a deal. While stopping short of commenting on a specific deal, Adami praised Molson Coors product portfolio and management. It is not the first time that a marriage between Coors and Miller has been discussed as an option for doing battle with Anheuser-Busch. That speculation halted in recent years when Coors joined forces with Canada's Molson and Miller became part of the South African Breweries global push.
OK, I’ve only been here for a little under a week, but I think it’s fair for me to start making sweeping generalizations about New York. This is an abridged list of ways in which living in New York is like living inside of Coors Field, home of the Colorado Rockies, a Major League Baseball team.
1. A lot of hot dog stands.
2. A single beer can cost $10.
3. They mostly sell imports and would like you to believe that Coors is the only beer from Colorado.
4. Sometimes it smells like pee.
5. Nobody cares about the Rockies.

I never enjoyed alcohol until I was almost 21. In fact, the first time I ever had a few brews with a meal was when I was at a local Mexican restaurant with some friends and they ordered a pitcher of Coors Light. Each of them was over 21 and each of them got carded by the waiter. But when he looked at me as he started the whole process, he just handed me a mug, no questions asked. I always thought that was pretty funny and ever since, I’ve had a soft spot for the Silver Bullet in my heart. So I can’t wait to sport this free Coors t-shirt when it comes in the mail!

During our reports last fall from the Great American Beer Festival in Denver we mentioned stumbling upon a consumer research session at Coors Field where some new flavors for seasonal Blue Moon products were being taste tested among baseball fans at a Rockies and Dodgers game.It looks like Molson Coors has decided that Blue Moon Belgian White will soon have year round seasonal companions. Paperwork filed with the Treasury Department's Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau indicates that Blue Moon Honey Moon Summer Ale will fill out the line up.Blue Moon has had a fall Pumpkin Ale seasonal for a number of years and just added a Winter Ale and Spring Ale to the line up.
Coors Light should stop sponsoring things like football. That’s not really something that wouldn’t exist without Coors Light. It’s not really truth in advertising. Coors Light should sponsor things like Sobriety or Diarrhea. This way people know what they’re in for.

This story isn't earth shattering, but I want to see if Autoblog can resist dogging us. Beer, ethanol, politicians, FlexFuel vehicles, har-har. From our perspective, the fact that Coors brewery will supply the Colorado democratic hoe-down's 450 vehicles with ethanol creates cognititive dissonance on a couple of levels. For one thing, the Coors family are (were?) known for being right of At
