      The Cookie Press
The Cookie PressFinding these collectible little cookie presses has always been a challenge. These limited edition presses are dated, and new designs are added each year as old ones are retired. The best place to possibly find any of the early editions is of course, Ebay. They are the best place to find anything you are looking for - and sometimes it is surprising to see what is there. This press is an early one that fetched quite a price at auction. I have been looking for this one for a while - but alas - because of the high price - the search continues.Selling items on Ebay can be daunting, and many people use a service called iSold It to sell their treasures. They take the away the worry and work that preparing and listing an item can bring. They send you a check when your item sells -

      The Great Cookie Face Off
I have a standard chocolate cookie recipe, I know it so well I could give it to you from memory and it's served me well for a dozen years. But apparently it's getting old with Andrew because he was going through my December issue of FamilyFun magazine and came across their recipe for Chocolate Crinkles."CHOCOLATE CRINKLES!" He squealed before ripping the recipe out and bringing it to me with those puppy dog eyes. Those eyes.He claimed his mom had made them for him when he was young and that he'd been looking for this chocolate crinkly reunion for lo these many years."Yea, whatever. I'll make the cookies," I said. And a couple days later after dinner I plopped a plate of Chocolate Crinkles down in front of him.He took a bite."Did you roll these in powdered sugar?" he asked skeptically thr

These cupcake cookies have been on my “to do list” for a very long time and I finally had a go making them. I dont have a speciel cupcake cookie cutter so I sat down and draw a template myself. I am very satisfied how they turned out and I have more cake inspired cookies on the way because I had a great time decorating them.It is sugar cookies decorated with royal icing and you can see more cupcake cookie lollies at my gallery.

James Caan and David O. Russell Fight Over Cookie
In a perfect meeting of a difficult actor and a more difficult director, James Caan left the set of David O. Russell's new film "Nailed" after a dispute over how Caan's character was supposed to choke to death on a cookie.Russell felt that Caan should cough as he choked, while Caan felt that you can't cough and choke at the same time. Thus, this led to creative differences.I'm wondering if their argument went something like this:Or like this:See more funny videos at CollegeHumor

Any one of these cheap ingredients could ruin your cookies. Think about what you are doing. Why waist your valuable time and energy baking cookies no one will like, not even yourself. You can taste the difference. Cheap tastes cheap and quality taste like quality. The Fortune Cookie Chronicles
I love Chinese food; it's my absolute favorite. I've managed to get the whole family hooked on the food so as to feed my addiction. And of course one of the best parts is getting the fortune cookie after the meal. Even Mia loves waiting to see what hers says. I usually have a fortune or two floating around in my purse, but most of the time they are so generic, that I forget them within minutes. Except for one. When Jesse and I were first dating, we went to a restaurant and got the obligatory cookies at the end of the meal. He opened his first; it was the customary vague hint of wisdom like something you'd read in the astrology section of the Sunday paper. Then I opened mine and it read: You are the guiding star of his existence. I remember feeling overwhelmed with emotion when I showed it

      Cookie Jar
I remember when I was eight or nine years old and I went to my grandma's house every weekend. I would come in her house, give her a great big hug and kisses and ran to the cookie jar in the kitchen. She would have homemade chocolate chip cookies to store bought. I didn't care what kind of cookies she had, I just remember the chocolate, chewy sugar flakes or the filled vanilla creme cookies. And the best part was I can have as many as I wanted. My grandma, Mary, always gave us what we wanted in sugar. My mom and dad would say, "Only have two" but my grandma would sneak and give us grand kids more. Those were the days.Today is different. Cookies are bigger in size and bigger in calories. So, taking 3 or more cookies per serving is a large sum of calories and sugar that adds to our bigger hi

      Look to the Cookie, Elaine
In our team's weekly meeting today, my boss reported that there were a lot of intoxicated Irish and Irish-for-a-day types wandering the cross streets of midtown by noon: "One woman was so drunk she could barely cross 42nd and Madison."There may be few cities in the United States that take St. Patrick's Day as seriously as New York does. It feels as prevalent in the streets as Christmas. Ok. Maybe not Christmas. It's like the spring version of Thanksgiving and beer is the turkey.Last year, I was Irish twice. Once in Hoboken in early March and a second time in Manhattan on the 17th. The bars of the surrounding boroughs can't compete with Manhattan's alcohol establishments on the nationally-recognized St. Patrick's Day so the only solution is to have multiple St. Patrick's Days within a 25-mi

US Post Bubble Recession - Not A Cookie Cut Situation
Double Bubble Trouble by Stephen Roach for NYT - snip:AMID increasingly turbulent credit markets and ever-weaker reports on the economy, the Federal Reserve has been unusually swift and determined in its lowering of the overnight lending rate. The White House and Congress have moved quickly as well, approving rebates for families and tax breaks for businesses. And more monetary easing from the Fed could well be on the way. The central question for the economy is this: Will this medicine work? The same question was asked repeatedly in Japan during its “lost decade” of the 1990s. Unfortunately, as was the case in Japan, the answer may be no. If the American economy were entering a standard cyclical downturn, there would be good reason to believe that a timely countercyclical stimulus l

An easy kid-helper recipe? Ideas for helping with New Year's resolutions? Fun activities for winter play? I can use all the help I can get!***Christmas may be over but not only is there still plenty of celebrating to do in December, this idea is easily adapted to other holidays or birthdays. All you need is a package of refrigerated sugar cookie dough and some small cookie cutters. Let the kids roll out the dough with a little extra flour into a not-too-thin square on a greased cookie sheet and press a floured cookie cutter into the middle but don't pull the cookie out. Pull out the cookie cutter but leave the cut shape stuck in the dough.Next make othe

      Christmas Cookie Baking Recipes
The first beautiful dusting of fluffy white snow always puts me in the mood for baking Christmas cookies. At this time of year I tend to spend longer hours in the kitchen, baking up massive batches of cookies and candies as holiday music and movies play in the background. Kicks and cookie cutters for the holidays
For some, sneakers are the ultimate expression of life. For others, that would be cookies. For others still, the two are virtually the same. Take Adidas for instance ... they not only create great sneakers, they also have a great set of unique cookie cutters. So this Christmas (if your lucky) you can find a set of Adidas Trefoil Cookie Cutters (why settle for gingerbread men) to go with those new kicks. They were created with Adidas' founder Adi Dassler's parents in mind. Apparently the Dassler parents originally wanted their son to be a baker rather then create a multi-billion dollar shoe empire. Gotta love when that's the way the cookie crumbles. Via: [Kineda] Note: No information on availability anywhere.

I'm Dreaming Of A Sugar Cookie Christmas
This is a lot of fun to do with the kids. Make any good sugar cookie dough. I use the Rich Roll Cookies from The Joy of Cooking. I NEVER refrigerate the dough before I roll it out. I refrigerate it AFTER. After mixing the dough, roll out a large handful between 2 sheets of plastic wrap. Lay the rolled-out cookie dough on a baking sheet, sheet pan or tray. Continue with rest of dough, layering each sheet with plastic between each layer. Freeze for 10 minutes or refrigerate for 20 to 30 minutes. (You can wrap the layers airtight and freeze for up to a month.) Remove sheets of dough from freezer or fridge. Cut out cookies. (It's a breeze when the dough is nice and cold.) Place on foil-lined and Pam-ed baking sheet. To decorate, I use egg yolk paint. Separate 3 yolks into three separate bowls, saving the whites for something else. (They can be frozen, well-sealed, and thawed and used for meringues. One egg white equals 2 tablespoons or 1 ounce. Four egg whites would be half a cup.) Add

Christmas Cookie # 2 -- Cream Cheese Meltaways
Another cookie that I remember with fondness was made by my mom's friend Laura. I remember one day when I was 7 or 8, I think it was "parent-conference" day at school. I stayed with Laura and her new baby that day while Mom and Dad attended the conferences. What I remember best about that particular visit with Laura was that she let me help her make some sort of cookie that I fell in love with. They were soft and buttery, not too sweet, and seemed to melt in your mouth. I still have no idea what those actual cookies were, but the cookies I am sharing with you today bare a close resemblance. These cookies are very easy to make and I think I have discovered an extremely versatile gluten-free dough. I am seriously considering, making this dough (minus the sugar) and rolling it out for a pie shell. The first time I made these cookies I simply baked them as rolled tablespoons of dough. Then I realized that the dough did not spread AT ALL... which wasn't necessarily a bad thing. So I too

Christmas Cookie #1 -- Preacher Cookies
In 8th grade, I took a home economics class. The teacher was an older woman with brilliant white hair who taught me how to make buttermilk biscuits and Preacher cookies. In fact, when she couldn't figure out what to do with her class of mostly 8th grade boys (I don't know how I got stuck in that class!) she just let us make batches and batches of preacher cookies with government sugar and butter. I don't remember ever learning about the food pyramid, or how to eat healthily in that class, but the woman knew how to cook with butter and sugar!A few weeks ago, a good friend from high school named Eric emailed me his family's recipe for Preacher Cookies. I was so excited! I live a state away from where I grew up and it's rare that I hear people refer to these particular cookies as "Preacher Cookies." Eric had no idea how much he made my day!You probably know these cookies as "No-bake Cookies", "Stove Top Cookies", "Haystacks", "No Bake Oatmeal Cookies", "Boiled Cookies", etc... (If y

This is a good thing, and I'm going to take a day to enjoy it. However, our next task needs to be making sure that he's not just replaced by another "loyal Bushie".For the moment though, feel free to be happy about having a little less corruption in our government.

Postage Stamp Lots and Cookie Cutter Houses

It’s cookie time in the city
Aaaaaaand I’m back! Miss me? I did treat you to a few posts, shelved prior to ‘the week without tastebuds’ in my house so I wasn’t superbly absent. Interestingly enough, while I recuperated, my blog was inundated with hits, mostly searching for pictures of funny cats. I suppose I’m not so remiss in that area, but this is a food blog! So it’s December, and the month of Christmas, which means it’s time to bake cookies. Baking for me is highly nostalgic; my mother was a champion baker, if only just for our family. She prided herself on never having store-bought cookies, cakes or anything like that in our home, she baked, and she baked really darn well. If she had one prominent love language to show us, it was in her Baking. She only had to call out “Who wants to help me make cookies?” and I would often drop everything I was doing and race to the kitchen. It was our time to bond, hang out and laugh, not to mention, nibble on warm cookie

      It's 5:20, Where's Your Cookie?
Occasionally, getting Zane to eat his dinner is a huge challenge. Last night was definitely one of those nights. But at least I discovered why. When I picked him up from preschool at about 5:20, I walked into his classroom and there was our boy standing there eating the final morsels of a gingerbread cookie. And looking at the box of cookies on the counter, it wasn't a little cookie. It was a humongous cookie. What kind of teacher gives a toddler such a treat knowing that it's basically dinner time? I could understand having it in the 3 or 4 p.m. hours, but at 5:20. Something is wrong with that. I didn't say anything at the time, but we're going to have to have a talk with his school about avoiding evening snacks. As expected, dinner was a battle last night. There was crying, backtalk, bowl and spoon throwing and tantrums. After such a large and delicious treat, he really wasn't in the mood for Mom's chicken and pasta soup and asparagus.Rothfamilyadventures.com

4 Simple Steps to Hassle-Free Cookie Baking
Baking cookies can be a joyous process, but often it can also be disorganized and stress-inducing, especially during the holiday season. The process can be much less complicated if you take the time to organize your baking procedure. Follow these simple steps for a hassle-free cookie baking experience!Step 1:Do some research. Gather your favorite cookie recipes, and search books, family & friends and the internet for recipes you'd like to try. (Be sure to write down where you got each recipe, so if you have questions, the answers will be easier to find.) Print out the recipes or print them on index cards for easy reference.Step 2: Compile a list of what you'll need. Make a list of all the ingredients you'll need, compiling a rough list of how much you'll need of each ingredient. Before you go out to the grocery store, check your own supply of ingredients (and double check expiration dates), so you'll know how much you need to pick up. Check your baking supplies for wear, as well.M

      Howard "Cookie" Krongard - Update
Since I wrote this post about the House Judiciary Committee hearing during which the State Department Inspector General Howard "Cookie" Krongard quite possibly committed perjury, there have been a few new developments:In addition to recusing himself from any investigations involving Blackwater, which he did during the House Judiciary Committee hearing, Howard "Cookie" Krongard has also recused himself from " looking into corruption allegations involving the construction of the new U.S. embassy in Baghdad". Henry Waxman, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, has requested another hearing, to take place during the week of December 3rd, this time to determine if Howard "Cookie" Krongard's November 14th testimony was actually a bunch of lies (the odds are not in Cookie's favor, from what I've observed). Howard "Cookie" Krongard's lawyer has written to Henry Waxman asking that he cancel the hearing. Good luck with that. Howard "Cookie" Krongard's brother, Alvin "Buzzy" Krongard, h
